The Blade has horrible heat issues - because the cooling hasn't been updated since 2013, the Blade thermalthrottles a LOT. The original cooling solution was designed to handle a 35W CPU + 75W GPU for a total of 110W whereas the current specs are a 47W CPU + 100W GPU for a total of 147W. That's 37W more than the cooling in the Blade was designed to dissipate and as a result, the fan noise is absurdly high and the temps are bad - 90*C+ usually. Definitely not fun to use when it leaves a toasty hotspot on the desk it was on.
Razer's quality control is also quite poor - a lot, and i mean a LOT of users on the Notebookreview forums have received defective models and gone through 3-4 RMAs before finally getting a working one.
As a recommendation, I'd say:
MSI GS60 Ghost Pro - same specs as the Blade, half the price and better cooling/noise.
Gigabyte Aorus Slim - more powerful than the Blade, cheaper, better cooling
A similar Sager notebook. - cheaper, more durable, better cooling

Shadow Of Mordor- Min 34 AVG 60 Max 81 Medium quality, FXAA.
H1Z1- High-ultra Min 40 AVG 60-70ish Max 109. ( drops to 40 only happened when tons of zombies were in one spot )

The i5 can easily be overclocked to 3.7ghz so clockspeed would be the same.
2400S has a better IPC even thought its a sanndy bridge prosesor

markhannelly reacted to Arc_Jester in Best Ultra Budget Gaming CPU?
I get 4.4ghz with an AIO but I think I could get up to 4.7ghz if I tried. Some people have gotten up to 5ghz with liquid nitrogen.

Get the i5 if you're going to leave it stock but get the 860k if you feel comfortable OC'ing it abit.

I had a sapphire dual-x r9 270, the cooler performance on that card was amazingly good, i never saw the card go hotter than high 60s at almost 1100 mhz core clock. it is quite the cooler. the 280 will likely run hotter than the 270 but should still have really good temps.
-
markhannelly reacted to Suffokation in Which Graphics Card?
The 280 will perform significantly better.

Honestly the extra vram would be nice to have. there is no gradual step down in performance if you run out of vram, it drops like a sac of bricks. if you plan on modding skyrim you'll definitely want more than 2gb of ram.

Linus should keep his rig, He's put so many hours into that and I know the case was one of the first things his wife got him too much meaning for us to take away from him :'(

WAIT HOLD UP. WE DONT WANT LINUS'S PERSONAL PC. The case has a lot of meaning to him guys. It was a gift from his wife. I believe it was the first gift from her too.
EDIT: Thanks for all the likes guys! Hopefully Linus or someone from LMG will read this and this will make Linus keep his build. Even if the goal of 100k is made we should convince Linus to do another build maybe, with signatures from the whole LMG family and maybe even his wife. This would let Linus keep the build he has with the special case his wife gave him. Besides, his personal PC would be more special to him than us.

markhannelly reacted to DICKWAHD in FX-9590 air cooled
Very interested to see how this goes. I am currently doing a similar build.
-Silverstone ft02. 90 degree spin on mobo.
-Noctua nh-d15
-Asus Sabretooth
-Seasonic 850
-XFX 7970
-12 gigs Gskill ripjaws
I hope to get away with this PSU using a single GPU. I will not be using this as a daily but it should be fun to play with With the rotated mobo and the three massive case fans blowing from bellow should make the best airflow pattern. All the heat comes out the top and the whole board is cooled. Not prepared to upgrade gpu as I have not found a need to.My ram is from an old build and cannot see a need to exceed this as I am happy with my penis size. The only worries are the heat and power. I hope this works but I'm just using parts I have including case. As water cooling has become mainstream my case seems obsolete so I really want to test this out. This is the largest psu I have so we will see, never needed more before but like I said it's mostly used parts so if needed I will pick up 1000+.
If anyone is interested I can post my build with pics but otherwise I won't bother. There is such limited info on this I am glad to see something and I got my idea from Pistol on Tek Syndicate.
Being as this looks like an end to this platform should we not celebrate it as the Crowning achievement it is. These people took it to the end and it IS the top of the line. No need to hate, I do this for fun. Thank you to Linus and the team for being regular nice guys and keeping dorkiness fun.

markhannelly reacted to JonnyBoyThan in Should I wait for the R9 300 Series?
I am going to be building a new pc soon and was wondering your guys opinion on if I should by a temporary GFX card and then just buy a R9 390 when it comes out. Or buy a gtx 970 and stick with it. Specifically the Msi Twin FroZR V 970. I currently am playing on a gt 610 and only play cs go but will want to play battlefield and loads of other games when I build my new pc.

That's a very good power supply. It's Super Flower Leadex platform, which actually outperforms Seasonic G-series.
-
markhannelly reacted to Laputacake in Which Seasonic?
Some power supplies use Seasonic boards but then the soldering isnt always up to scratch and may not using solid Japanese capacitor. Have a look at a johnny guru review if you're wondering about it. -
markhannelly reacted to Aniallation in Which Seasonic?
Only some (older) HX are made by Seasonic, all the newer ones are CWT
-
markhannelly reacted to Aniallation in Which Seasonic?
Depends. 750 is a bit of a waste, since it's more then you'll need for a single 290/X but not enough to comfortably run two.
Get a 650 for single GPU, 1000 if you want to CrossFire later on.
