If it's just a "because we can!" then go nuts, because clearly you already have. But if there's a reason beyond "because we can"... explain it to me. Anyone. Please.

I'd say it's a mix of because they can and also because 6 workstations take up a hell of a lot more space than one singular workstation. It's for their LAN centre.

  2. @LinusTech Did you think about a bunch of 480GB Intel Optane 905P U.2 or 750GB Intel Optane SSD DC P4800X U.2 combined with one of these crazy badboys: https://www.serialcables.com/products.asp?cat=351&tier=264?

  3. Bump. Anyone performed further testing? Anandtech still use 7 in their test bench and performed iGPU tests on Kabylake without any reported issues in February. What's the status?

    Edit: disregard

No listing for 7 or 8.

Gotta love Microsoft's zealotry in forcing adoption of 10.

  4. Holy moly there are a lot of posts here now! I will do my best to respond to most of them, but I can't guarantee it will be in an extremely timely manner :P

Can you guys move all the competition entry posts to the thread they belong in? Or does IP board not allow such a task?

  5. What if I don’t have a credit card or find paying challenging? Vessel is committed to keeping the subscription price as low as possible, supplemented with light load of advertising.

Seems like Vessel wants to go down the Hulu route. Bad move. I've already seen these advertisements. People don't want to pay for a service and then be subjected to albeit 'light' advertisements. See; cable TV.

I wish Vessel the best and it seems like they've already got all of the big names from YouTube to immediately migrate and populate all their content, but I can't see this site/service surviving long term. I give it a year. They're simply too far behind YouTube in terms of feature parity and they should already be at parity at release if they have any hope whatsoever of competing.

  6. What happened to Lauren from TastyPC doing this build?

You don't throw out a sponsored video with a "dream" in description, then argue that 16gb is a reasonable choice for potential upgrades in the future. Especially when a silly 1080p render in premiere pro can eat up 18GB of memory.

    Agreed.

I'd also add there's nothing 'dreamy' about this build at all.

If we're to take WD's original intention of this build from here.

They’ll need a fast machine with plenty of RAM, a nice monitor, speakers, a huge storage array—and anything else you can dream up.

But don’t worry about the budget.

This does not have 'plenty' of ram, nor does it have speakers or a huge storage array. Software Raid 1 of 2x6TB? C'mon. WD said don't worry about the budget and Linus is worried about the price of a 32GB DDR4 kit?

  7. although I need to find a way to get the old transparent windows from windows 7... that would be amazing...

Request/report it in the feedback app. Many, many other people have been. If they (Microsoft) ignore the request they are undoubtedly and unequivocally insane as there is serious demand for its return as at least an option.

  8.

What about web dev? That can be done overseas and from home I know that it isn't what you're looking for but since my main job role already is web dev I could maybe fix some issues and add some features to the site after all its only vbulletin so creating plugins for it isn't hard at all

This isn't vBulletin. It's IP Board. You should know as a "web dev" as its look and feature set is quite distinct from vB. Not to mention -- it's stated as such in the bottom right hand corner of the board's footer.
