Torand reacted to starsmine in Madison reveals experiences working at LMG
Does not matter if the behavior did or did not. It literally has ZERO to do with anything.
A person wearing a skirt is not, and never is "asking for it"
A person who makes a sexual joke is not and is never "asking for it"

Consent can be taken away, and when it does, it's not there anymore. A joke you make with a friend is different than a joke you make with a different group of friends.

There is NO such thing as asking for it other than, literally asking for it.

Did you read the pinned thread? They were inundated by new accounts kicking up dust.

The mod team on these forums is not the mod team on the Subreddit. The subreddit also isn't run day-to-day by LMG employees.

LTT has no direct control over the Reddit subforum. They are likely implementing restrictions so that new users do not come in and flood the site with arguments.

The LTT Forums, on the other hand are hosted by LMG, but are run entirely by volunteers and are not officially LMG staff. We allow all criticisms, discussions and comments so long as they are civil and follow the Community Standards.

They turned the product plugs into a running gag. That really doesn't bother me; they're a lot quicker than other baked-in ads. (Three-minute baked-in ads for subscription meal kit services, anyone?)

And to be fair, their stuff is pretty nice.

Torand reacted to Vexenar in Gamers Nexus alleges LMG has insufficient ethics and integrity
I legitimately thought that Reddit and the Youtube comment section on LTT videos was bad and a toxic echo chamber, but I'm starting to realize that the forums are just as bad. Imagine wasting your time writing replies on the forums just to incite negative responses from other users, I'm sure your parents must be proud of what you've accomplished, because you've sure gotten me!

Also in regards to your other comment, no, I don't think it's childish outrage to expect people on a online platform to act with common decency towards one another.
But apparently we're at the point where making fun of sexual harassment, giving people death threats and being toxic is the norm on online forums, or rather on the Linus Tech Tips forum.

I'm not outraged, I'm disappointed that people who are at the age where they can have children act like this without any form of personal restraint. Apparently we've forgotten that there are people of flesh and blood behind the screen who have feelings.

Bullshit I have seen n reddit:

People looking for proof that Linus and LMG are pedos
    Linus and LMG kill kids
Linus deliberately stole the Billet Labs cooler because his ego was hurt when they commented about it(they pinned and hearted that comment lmfao)
Linus would've tried to destroy GNs career in the industry if he had been given the chance to comment.
Everyone who watches LMG is an accessory to SA abuse(wtf?)
Linus deliberately sold it off to a competitor and held up billet labs for weeks because he is receives kickbacks from larger manufacturers

Reddit should probably be the last place one should go to get the news on this stuff. The people there are fucking INSANE.

Also, isn't it kinda funny how people just brush away all the mistakes and issues with the GN video (not to mention how obviously motivated it was) and Billet's obviously stupid you-can-keep-if you review it positively, (how the fuck is that not incentive to be biased?) while calling other people shills. I wrote a sarcastic comment about Linus being made out to be literal Satan 2 here, but seriously, when people actually start to believe that steve is "tech jesus", then LTT and LMG obviously becomes.... Satan for these people. Yeah what LTT did was not proper in the slightest, but that shouldn't blind you to the shortcomings/issues highlighted in GNs video. Elevating GN to a pedestal isn't something that even Steve would like. The valid concerns as highlighted in this video:
are being missed. GN's video highlighted issues. It wasn't meant to be "drama" as so many people on reddit have made it. By making it drama you are only making it easier to get blown away.

Torand reacted to LucySpectre in Female representation in the LMG & the tech media sphere
Considering the number of videos uploaded by all the associated channels, the ratio female representation on display is low. Very low.

You could point to a small handful of videos that feature guests or irregular staff members. But they are distinct outliers.

Having worked in IT for the past 15 years or more I've seen the real world representation of women in the tech industry. Whilst it's clearly skewed towards guys, the ratio of female representation seen in LMG videos is far from being indicative of the female representation in the industry.

To compound this lack of representation the women that do appear on screen are seldom if ever shown as positive and competent tech role models. They're shown as people learning or damsels in tech distress. Yvonne is clearly an exception to this, and if I need to explain why then you're already way behind.

Overall tech media is a sausagefest and the attitude often found on forums and in youtube video comment sections exacerbates the situation with an over arching attitude that the only women we should see on our screens should be approripately aesthetically pleasing and/or non-threatening.

I'll be very clear that this is not a request for representation on the screen to meet arbitrary quotas for the sake of it, so you stop reaching for that pitch fork right now.

As a leader in the representation of the tech community online, I would hope that LMG consider the representation of their female staff and the female guests that they bring on and choose to steer away from the tired stereotypes that women are tarred with in the tech sphere and choose to show their female audience that they can be as capable and confident with tech as the boys are.

If the WAN show were to happen, not have Linus on, but to have Terren and Luke. That would allow a good Q+A for those that would watch and see for more updates. Not having it, wouldn't be the worst either.... A ton of us have more questions and with a vast majority having small attention spans, it can allow some closure or whatever people need..

I would doubt there's a WAN show. They said all production is shut down. If there is one, it's going to go very strangely and the comments and like/dislike ratio is going to be a disaster. Sucks because I really enjoy WAN show.

Women lying about sexual assault is very rare.  Get a grip.  I don't know who your abbreviations stand for.  This isn't a court case, not yet.  But, this sounds like the same old song and dance we have heard a thousand times from women who have been harmed.  You should be ashamed at yourself for belittling her

Torand reacted to just_dave in The amount of (seemingly intentional) misinformation in LTT and ShortCircuit content about anything made by Apple (and featuring Alex) is alarming
Before I get called a fanboy - I do use Apple products and enjoy it very much. But I am also a developer and especially on macOS, there are many, many problems that need to be highlighted and addressed. These products/platforms are not perfect and criticism is necessary. But misinformation that is intentionally misleading is definitely not.

I hope I am not the only one, and I think the last ShortCircuit video proved it, as the now-pinned comment contains many replies sharing the same feeling.

Over the last year or so, I noticed a very strong trend in almost all LTT and ShortCircuit videos where incorrect specifications are stated/presented or completely dumb assumptions are being made.

It makes it seem that either the writers for these videos are completely stupid and incapable of actual research and writing, or it's being done intentionally to drive interaction and views.

Let me give a few examples with timestamps:

    1. Mac Studio SSD Swap video at 9:30 - 9:50 ish. Alex says that macOS recovery has been removed and it's not longer possible to reinstall the OS etc. and Linus reacts to it by saying how badly Apple treats their customers.

What even is that? Did anyone with IQ over 80 spend more than 30 seconds working on that video script? This literally takes 5 seconds to Google: https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/intro-to-macos-recovery-mchl46d531d6/mac

    2. Mac Users Deserve Better  - at 6:12 - 7:20 Alex here just straight up says that the single external display support on M1/M2 is a software limitation and that the Thunderbolt 3 ports can support more than external display physically. It actually isn't true at all, because the external display hardware exists for only 1 display output on the M1/M2 die. Proving this is hard (as of now), because Hector Martin (the developer of Asahi Linux for Apple Silicon) has since deleted his Twitter (because of Musk) and his tTwitter account had all of this information documented (AT THE TIME OF RELEASE OF THE VIDEO WOULD COME UP IN REGULAR SEARCHES ON THIS TOPIC) along with die shots, die layout estimation etc. However, he posted it on hackernews, so there is only this comment thread available https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32175939

    3. Windows doesn't have an answer - 15:01 webcam comparison, again the video is terribly written with incorrect specs for the webcams and Alex making a big deal out of it (I understand you need clickbait views).
This time people corrected it and it was actually pinned, so that's at least some improvement.

Linus and Alex always say how they want to perform in-depth testing for products, how they want to share transparent results and be the trusted place for consumers to come for information about what products to buy.
Well, this definitely doesn't inspire any confidence in that.

    1. LTT staff member was wrong for criticizing GN and HUB in the LAB's video.
    2. GN over reacted to a matter that could have been dealt with man to man.  Instead this high school type drama ensued (yes I watched the full video).

They are both wrong.  This is a bad look for the tech community.

Regardless GN made LTT look really bad.  The sad thing is if this attack has a negative impact on LTT revenue it will be the employees who suffer not Linus.

This topic will likely be locked/deleted but I want to make sure anybody reading this understands LMG is more than just Linus. If you want to buy the products, buy the products. If you want to still consume their content, do so. There are 100+ other non-Linus people working for LMG that likely are not part of the core issues being addressed right now.
