zedselder reacted to jaggysnake57 in No more cracked games in two years?
im still sceptical that something is uncrackable but if it does happen rip PC gaming. half the reason pc gaming is so good is because priate games keeps the industry honest.....with in a few years of uncrackable games pc gamers will be getting shafted just as hard as console gamers.

zedselder reacted to chicksoup in No more cracked games in two years?
I have bought and not bought games after cracking them and have to say that I was glad for the games I didn't spend any money on and the ones I really liked I bought.
In my case the game developers could implement a 90min or so time limit to test a game without buying it

I don't know about the 128GB thing. However the note 5 and the edge + are pretty much identical aside from the curved screen, if that will be good for your endless use than get that, otherwise they are the same

According to pcgamer.com the zalman and the thermaltake ones are the best. I have the thermaltake one and its pretty good considering I live in a warm environment.
H110i GTX is now available. You can give that a try.

zedselder reacted to Oshino Shinobu in time vs speed
Gaming, it really doesn't matter. Photoshop and Illustrator won't see much, if any difference. If you're doing large renders, then faster will be better, but in general, going with low CAS is your best bet, even though it doesn't make much difference.
-
zedselder reacted to Oshino Shinobu in time vs speed
It depends on the task.
The timings are for latency, so the lower the CAS timings, the faster it should be in everyday and small tasks. For larger tasks with extended periods of read and writing to RAM, the faster RAM should do better.
Between those two, you would not see a difference outside of benchmarks.
-
zedselder reacted to itachipirate in time vs speed
It depends on the task. Say you're moving thousands of tiny files, better CAS is better. If you're moving one big file, better speed is better. For daily use lower CAS is better but you likely won't see the difference. CL is how fast the RAM can respond to tasks, and speed is how fast it can do the tasks

zedselder reacted to -rascal- in ddr2
If CPU-Z is showing 400MHz, then your memory is running at it's intended speed.
Note: depending on which program you at using, it may either show the actual frequency, or the effective.
DDR: Double Data Rate.
The number following (I.e. DDR2, or DDR3): Revision.
The actual frequency is 400MHz, but the EFFECTIVE speed is 800MHz.

zedselder reacted to Blake in win 10 ram limit
When we have an official limit you will be able to find it here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366778(v=vs.85).aspx
So unless you have a server with 1TB of RAM that you don't mind installing windows 10 on and testing for us, assume the same as windows 8.1 for now. The only people who actually know will be under NDA and work for MSFT.

zedselder reacted to Casperian in win 10 ram limit
I know those boards exist, hence why I said consumer.(Being purchasable doesn't make them consumer)
Running those boards with a consumer windows license seems a bit silly.
If you are buying over 512GB of ram, you are doing something special like a powerful backend database server using ram disks.

zedselder reacted to LasersPewPew in charger types
If the phone is only designed for 1a charging capability, The charger will regulate the power flow to 1amp to avoid over charging the phone outside it's designed specs. It will only charge at 2.1amps if the phone is designed for it.
It's the same if you were to charge a phone with one of those quick charge adapters. It will never use the fast charging methods unless the device was designed for it.

zedselder reacted to Captain_WD in 6tb face off
For such tasks, you'd want to have the drive with the best read/write speeds (since the additional features won't matter). I'd say the WD VelociRaptor would be such drive, but if you are looking at 6TB drives, out of the consumer line, WD Purple should perform best in terms of writing and reading constant data (it is optimized for intensive data writing). If you want great performance, I would suggest checking out WD Re 6TB as it delivers great results and is very reliable. Here's a link to its spreadsheet: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=18upzc Captain_WD. -
zedselder reacted to Lollausen in gigabyte OC
OC'ing CPUs is usually a tad more complicated than with gpus, and also bears more risk. my advice would be to find a tutorial here or on other trusted forums, or on youtube.
Consider that higher voltage will allow higher clocks, but also higher temps, so you need to make sure his cooler can handle it. also, you will need to adjust NB frequencies, not to mention RAM Timings. I run an AMD CPU, so im not sure, but i think intel has also locked direct access to cpu clocks, so you will need to change clocks using the multiplier only. also keep in mind that RAM timings will depend on the brand of the ram and the base clock of the ram (Example: 1600/1800MHz RAM usually has base timings of 9-9-9-24, and these will scale as you change cpu clocks. other ram with different clocks and timings might require different ram timings both as a base as well as different scaling when you OC).
These might be of use:

zedselder reacted to Lollausen in gigabyte OC
i'm honestly not an expert in cpu OC, particulary that one, but what i can tell you is this. If you CAN act on the base frequency, leave the normal multiplier and OC the clocks through the base frequency, its much better (guess the intel duo was before they locked base clock).
And DO NOT change the pci-e frequency. GPU overclock is very different and is done within windows.

zedselder reacted to Jumper118 in gigabyte OC
you can go up to 2.1-2.2v on the dram voltage if you can get highers speeds at that. you can go upto 1.4v on the cpu vcore as long as its says under 80c. leave the pcie at 100mhz as it will no make a difference overclocking it. you should be able to get the cpu host to around 400.

i would leave everything as it is for not then. auto is fine for most things.

Hey dexzizo, Here's some info on the three types of drives: - WD Green is your energy-efficient drive that works cool, quiet and saves a lot of power. It is designed for backups and secondary storage. Its features allow it to be a great choice for quiet backup builds or for archiving. It is mostly chosen for massive media storage (up to 6TB) in builds that have another drive for the OS and active programs and games. http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=J6puLf - WD Red is the NAS/RAID class drive from the consumer series that is designed specifically for RAID environments and NAS devices. It is tuned and optimized for 24/7 performance, RAID arrays and up to 8-bay NAS systems. This drive is often used for backups, stable secondary storage and in streaming builds, as well as NAS and RAID. http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=ZdjQ20 - WD Red Pro is designed with the same purpose as the regular WD Red, only for larger scales (8 to 16 bays). They have fixed 7,200 rpm (while the regular WD Red has Intellipower), longer warranty and some additional features in the firmware, enabling it to perform even better at larger scale RAID arrays. http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=GvEfC9 - WD Purple is your surveillance-class drive, designed specifically for surveillance storage, video recording and streaming. It has optimized noise reduction (being the most quiet drive in the consumer line with only 22dBA nooise level during seeking time), significantly reduced frame loss nad optimized firmware. This drive is also used often for desktop computers due to its low noise levels. It has optimized sequential read/write speeds but the random read/write speeds are lower than normal and some people experience problems with it in regular desktops.http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=IV255r - WD Purple NV has some improvements over the regular WD Purple such as durability in harsher environments, larger number of camera support and longer workload per year. Here's some more info: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=jnuYHj If you want the best results I would recommend using WD Red in a RAID array. Captain_WD. -
