  1. All I've heard about ryzen is that it's important to get fast RAM. I know that's not the case with other processors, but why do you say that for ryzen?
  2. I'm not sure if you missed the part where I mentioned that I'm building a ryzen build, or if you're suggesting that I build Intel. If it's the latter, kindly go away you filthy intel fanboy.
  3. I'm finally updating my dated fx-8370 build with a shiny 2600x and a gtx 1080. Can't wait. Last time I built a PC was a simpler time.. RAM wasn't such a headache. LTT and J2C both made videos completely debunking the idea that faster DDR3 = better performance. That's not the case anymore, and I realize with Ryzen I should be investing in fast ram. Here's my question - can I get off okay with just a fast ram set that's compatible with my MOBO or must I buy a set that says "For Ryzen" like the G-skill Trident Z set? Honestly the 3200 MHz normal set is 100 CAD cheaper than the "For Ryzen" set and the specs look identical. What's the deal? Is it quintessential? For context, I completely intend on overclocking my CPU and GPU once my second AMD system is built. Thanks!
  4. How about some custom mechanical keyboards- NO that does not mean a logitech or corsair! Maybe a ducky shine???? Can you even get your hands on one???
  5. ONE MORE SUGGESTION: Get an H220x2 from swiftech, and a waterblock for your GPU. Your system will be killer if you watercool that GPU too by adding it to the loop from swiftech's latest AIO cooler! It comes with amazing dyes too- the best water cooling dyes on the market. The fluid can be tuned to the colours of the system. It will be slightly more expensive though...
  6. And to answer your question- Your processor is a "K" processor, meaning it is unlocked for overclocking. Since I'm sure you realize that you are paying extra for that, I'm sure you also realize that you will be taking advantage of it and therefore be needing a better cooler such as the H100i. In other words- yes get the water cooler. You'd be wasting a K processor otherwise. K alone does nothing for performance if it isn't overclocked.
  7. Cool build, but personally for any civilian application that PC is way too overkill.. at least it will last you a good 5 years.
  8. You didn't check shit lol it's legal in the western three provinces of canada INCLUDING BC- Linus's province.
  9. I'm canadian and I just facebook messaged my local law enforcement: Legal in the 3 western provinces, and illegal in MB and ON. Grey area in QB.
  10. I just want some opinions here... I (like the majority of you) subscribe to LTT for the videos about the various types of technologies available on the market, and the innovations in those technologies which come along every now and then. Something I've recently found an interest in is radar detectors. Now I know what you're thinking: "Nobody really cares about radar detectors and that they are very simple technology", but you'd be surprised. Upon doing some research, the upper end models have capabilities to connect with your smart phone, use GPS and user updated alerts to notify of temporary speed traps, use wifi to create a protection network with your phone, and even block police laser signals. I've gained an interest in buying one of these products, however the BIGGEST problem I've encountered with deciding which one to buy is that THERE ARE NO COMPARATIVE REVIEWS which meet the quality expectations I've developed from linus's videos. The tech review channels (especially LTT) has definitely spoiled me in that manner. Since the products do have very relevant ties to the types of technology linus reviews/talks about on his channel, does anybody think he should do a techquickie/review on some of the models? In the least, it would just be another line of technology that the ever-growing youtube superpower Linus Tech Tips would be able to dominate. Let me know!
  11. Ok i read your article. Get the i7. With a 980ti any amd chip will indefinitely be a bottle neck. You're gonna want DDR4 ram too, and NOT 32 GIGABYTES OMFG HAHAHAHAHA. I'm sorry but that was an uneducated decision. The reason you see linus's builds with 128GB of ram is because he does rediculous things with them like running 7 virtual PCs. I have 16Gb, and I have an excessive problem with just minimizing windows. I also use google chrome, which is a ram eater. I have never in my life used more than 70% of my total ram capacity with GTA V and a bunch of things in the background. Don't be dumb and save ur money on that expensive DDR4 ram.
  12. I only read your title. Forgive me. intel processors are generally way better than AMD. AMD cpus use more smaller cores, where intel uses less stronger cores. Amd currently doesn't have a product line which is competitive with core i7s. They are releasing the Zen core soon, which will change that. Heres a bit of info you might find useful: AMD cpus are fine for gaming. You dont need an i7 unless you're editing video or doing something actually intensive. My 8370 runs GTA V very high at 60 frames. Don't spend too much on a CPU for gaming. Truly. Just make sure it has at least 4 cores from intel or 6 from AMD.
  13. You need to check the ram compatibility chart in your motherboard manual. You should have done that before you bought the ram. If its an asus board, read up on how to use the memOK! feature. memOK will solve your problems. I didn't read your post in detail.
  14. i7s have individual cores too. Okay let me explain this very simply. CPUs have things called "threads" which essentially make up the capacity at which the data can be processed. Think of them as roads, and the data as trucks travelling the same speed. More roads, more trucks arrive at the same time. Hyperthreading basically splits the i5 threads into 2 more threads, essentially doubling the bandwidth of data that can be processed. Processing cores have nothing to do with it. i7s are just i5s, with twice the amount of threads. More data can be crunched by the cpu in the same instant. And no, if ur gaming you dont need an i7.
