Coeleborn reacted to Gimbergsson in A dark theme for LinusTechTips
Hi, recently i have been working on a dark theme for LinusTechTips.
Please leave feedback and if you find something weird post it on the thread. :)
In the spoiler below is a screenshot of the theme (it's on Google chrome).
*I recommend to use the "Original theme" for larger screen sizes and the "Theme without width restrictions" on smaller screen sizes (such as laptops).
**IMPORTANT**
You need to have the site theme on "IP.BOARD"
Instructions↓
Instructions for Chrome, FireFox and Opera!
Install stylish (addon) for Chrome, FireFox, Opera Choose one of these and click on it → Original theme or Theme without width restrictions Click the big green button that says "Install with stylish" Done :D
Instructions for Safari[1]
Download stylish for Safari and install it After installed stylish click on the "S" icon in the top left corner Then choose "Manage" and in the search box search for "linustechtips" Done
Instructions for Firefox on Android
Download FireFox for your android device http://goo.gl/oe1ZJ Just follow the same instructions as Chrome and FireFox :D BUT CHOOSE THE THEME WITHOUT WIDTH RESTRICTIONS
Change logo
Install stylish using the instructions above. Go to http://goo.gl/H8fltY and click install
[1] - Works on both Windows and Mac.

Let's say someone had given me your X51 for my birthday & it was my only rig. I would replace the parts with the ones I really wanted & sell each part as I replaced it. I do like the case.

I'd have to see some serious proof against the Silverstone PSU before I'd change that --- it's not £40 worse than an EVGA that I've yet to hear.

Coeleborn reacted to Raya in Linus receiver Review.... Maybe
With everything going the way it is in gaming who would not want a 4K pass through A/V receiver tho make their gaming more in depth and get totally immersed in the quality sound of crisp real time audio. all connected to a bichin 7.1 surround sound system.
Yes we all would but who knows if the Manufacturing marketing team is lying to you.
Well this is where I come to humbly ask Linus to do a A/V receiver review.
maybe this could be an upcoming video.
Now before U all yell at me and tell me their is already a spot for this, well today is my first day on here and search as I may could not find the section for suggested reviews. srry in advance.

http://www.lynda.com/Game-Design-training-tutorials/1461-0.html?previousCategory=1
And you'll find plenty of other topics on those pages & others on Lynda.com to help you. I've found their tutorials to be very good! And a subscription is really affordable. Of course the best part is being able to learn just as fast as you can go through a video.
You should be able to find a Linus link with discount, too.

Wait, What, and Why?
So, yeah, another build. Another server, to be
precise. Why? Well, as nice of a system ZEUS is, it does
have two major shortcomings for its use as a server.
When I originally conceived ZEUS, I did not plan on using
ZFS (since it was not yet production-ready on Linux at that
point). The plan was to use ZEUS' HDDs as single disks,
backing up the important stuff. In case of a disk failure,
the loss of non-backed up data would have been acceptable,
since it's mostly media files. As long as there's an index
of what was on the disk, that data could easily be
reaquired.
But right before ZEUS was done, I found out that ZFS was
production-ready on Linux, having kept a bit of an eye on it
since fall 2012 when I dabbled in FreeBSD and ZFS for the
first time. Using FreeBSD on the server was not an option
though since I was nowhere near proficient enough with it to
use it for something that important, so it had to be Linux
(that's why I didn't originally plan on ZFS).
So, I deployed ZFS on ZEUS, and it's been working very
nicely so far. However, that brought with it two major
drawbacks: Firstly, I was now missing 5 TB of space, since I
had been tempted by ZFS to use those for redundancy, even
for our media files. Secondly, and more importantly, ZEUS is
not an ECC-memory-capable system. The reason this might be a
problem is that when ZFS verifies the data on the disks, a
corrupted bit in your RAM could cause a discrepancy between
the data in memory and the data on disk, in which case
ZFS would "correct" the data on your disk, therefore
corrupting it. This is not exactly optimal IMO. How severe
the consequences of this would be in practice is an ongoing
debate in various ZFS threads I've read. Optimists estimate
that it would merely corrupt the file(s) with the concerned
corrupt bit(s), pessimists are afraid it might corrupt your
entire pool.
The main focus of this machine will be:
room to install more disks over time ECC-RAM capable not ridiculously expensive low-maintenance, high reliability and availability (within reason, it's still
a home and small business server)
Modding Instead of some uber-expensive W/C setup, the main part of
actually building this rig will be in modifying the PP689
for fitting as many HDDs as halfway reasonable as neatly as
possible. I have not yet decided if there will be painting
and/or sleeving and/or a window. A window is unlikely, the
rest depends mostly on how much time I'll have in the next
few weeks (this is not a long-term project, aim is to have
it done way before HELIOS).
Also, since costs for this build should not spiral out of
control, I will be trying to reuse as many scrap and spare
parts I have laying around as possible.
Teaser
More pics will follow as parts arrive and the build
progresses, for now a shot of the case:

That's all for now, thanks for stopping by, and so long.

Build Title: LekroNAS: 16TB gigabit-saturating network-attached storage using FreeNAS
Thread URL: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/167913-
Description: In no way aesthetically pleasing or gaming-oriented, LekroNAS stores massive swaths of data in one convenient, network-attached device accessible from anywhere desired. The LekroNAS uses server-grade components to provide a true server experience and allow for ZFS arrays up to 32TB in size, at a price significantly lesser than prebuilt NAS devices with similar capabilities.

Coeleborn reacted to Mao_Zedong in This Forum Needs To Understand Some Things
Not everybody has time for that. I am 15, and the only time I got money until last summer was my birthday and Christmas. I couldn't do any jobs because I was too small to mow a lawn and I was required to do anything that was a potential thing. I also couldn't ask any neighbors, I don't know any of them and they all have kids around my age. Now that I could potentially do some things, I have almost no time because my school is extremely difficult (one of the hardest in the nation). So no, not everybody can work to save up money.

Coeleborn reacted to Nup in New to Graphics Cards & Benchmarking
Ah, i see, sorry about that, misread your post.
I think that different benchmarks results don't correlate to types of work loads (at least not gaming ones, i'm sure ones for specific applications do exist.)
What I tend to do is fiddle around with an OC in valley and when its stable, I then go test it in separate games (or applications, if that was needed) to make sure it's stable in those too. Later I can tweak each OC for each game I run.
Keeping one profile for stock setting (always handy to have), one for a general, all round OC that will give a small but safe and stable Oc throughout more or less everythin. And the couple leftover profiles for my most payed games with tweaked OCs.
I hope this answers your question.
TL;DR either go for one good over all OC, or tweak for each thing you use
@Demorthus covered it well too.
