Im 42 years old and still PC game. Ive been playing games since I was 7 years old on my first computer which was a Commodore Vic 20. I must admit its getting harder to stay up for longer sessions than 20 years back. I can no longer stay up to 3 am in the morning. I usually get tired about 12 or 1 pm. I also finder it ALOT harder to like games like I used to. This is due to playing soo many games over the years. Ive been there and done that saying. 
 
My wife don't mind me playing games since PC's is my hobby. If you have a girlfriend or wife which thinks you are too old to game. Then you have two options. Leave her or quit pc gaming.
 
Last note. Yes you can PC game at older ages however things change and you might not be able to PC game more often.

I would either do one of two things. One Restore your settings to default on your GPU or slightly downgrade your overclock. Downgrade your overclock slightly and see if the error is still there.
You can take the chance with your motherboard and leave your overlock but if I was in your shoes I would not take the chance. Im allways better safe than sorry. Just think for a extra few fps in games your taking a chance with your motherboard and if it breaks alltogether its going to cost a lot more than a few extra fps in game.

Buying two gtx 670 2 gig vram edition GPU to play Modded Skyrim. I found out fast that I couldn't play skyrim the way I wanted to play it. Ran out of vram.

980ti all the way. Get two of them bad boys and you will not look back for many years. Just waiting on AMD 300 series and then I will make my mind up. But atm im looking more green than red.

Yiz I like your thinking. Its the same thing ive been saying for years. No such thing as Overkill.

970 does have 4 gb vram its just sometimes on certain games it hits the 3.5 limit on other games it goes past the 3.5 limit. The other 500mb might be 1/7 speed of the other 3.5 gig vram but its STILL 500mb of vram in the end even if its really slow. So saying a 970 is only 3.5 its not really true. Your better off saying it has 4 gig vram but 500mb of that its not used in most cases.

Yes but don't expect huge gains. anywhere between 5 to 15 or even 20 extra fps in game. Depends on how much you want to overclock your processor. A small overclock would gain hardly anything.  Depends on what type of gamer you are. Like I said if you play a lot of mmo games like. Planetside 2, World of Warcraft, Aion, etc etc overclocking can come in really handy. If you play mostly single player games them not worth it. Also depends on what CPU you have atm. If you have a old CPU overclocking comes in handy again. If you have a new cpu not really worth it.
 
If you do a lot of work in windows like graphics design or video editing them overclocking REALLY comes in handy.
 
I myself tried overclocking I got my CPU "i7 4770k"  to 4.5 when playing Planetside 2. I noticed an increase in fps whilst playing. I also noticed how much faster windows apps opened up and how much faster windows loaded etc. I then played a few single player games and DIDNT notice any increase in frames what so ever.

We all know that the 980ti will eventually be released if we go off what happened in the 700 series cards.  Nothing has changed tbh to think that Nvidia will not release an updated card.
Makes sense a lot of people like myself is begging for a card with more vram but cant afford the Titan X. Only reason I didn't get the 970 or 980 was because of the vram on both cards and the performance ratio/price on the 980.
 
Hopefully the 980ti performance will be good and with the increase vram will help a lot of people without paying Titan X prices. Lets just hope the price is more towards the 980 and not the other way towards the Titan X.

Or you can wait. That's what I am doing. Its only months not years. Just depends on how much of a itch you have to upgrade.
 
If you have the money get a Titan X or wait getting two 980ti "which I am thinking of doing". Might preform better than two Titan X at a lower price. But that's just rumours atm so don't take my word on that just yet.

I still run two 670 in SLI at 1080p still very good cards but if you want to max out the very latest AAA games then I would upgrade which I am doing later this year when AMD and Nvidia release some new models.
 
For that price you cant go wrong.

All I can say is once you have made the jump from 60hz to 120 or 144hz it will be very hard to go back. Even windows feels as smooth as butter with 120hz or 144hz rather than 60hz.
 
A lot of people say go 1440p 144hz they know what they are talking about. I game in 1080p 120hz and I can tell you 120hz its wonderful. I can only dream of playing games a 1440p at 144hz that's why I seriously thinking of upgrading 1440p but first im getting the GPUS to run at that resolution WELL.

Wait till AMD new line comes out and the reviews and benchmarks start floating around the net.  Nothing is certain most are rumours. Myself im intestered in AMD new GPU as well as Nvidia 980ti. But until both are released as for myself im not getting into the hype crowd nor am I banking my money on buying any of them until I see proof that its worth upgrading.

The Release Date for SC will be 2016 in that time better GPU's will be out. ATM 970 should run it ok but SLI or AMD crossfire should work better. Oneone can predict which system will run it as smooth as possible given the fact that the final release version aint released yet. You can however speculate as much as you like

You could be hitting your vram limit at 4k on ultra. anything past 3.5 vram will cause your game to lag really bad at 4k. It could be that because your running SLI it could be that.Make sure you have Far Cry 4 latest Patch. I also heard that Far Cry did have problems when it came out with bugs etc etc. I don't no if that's the same now.
 
970 SLI aint the best at 4k anything below that its great.

Got to admit the Titan X is the fastest single gpu to date. Its just not worth the money but its not aimed at people which is thinking of money. Its aimed at people with so much money that spending a 1000 pounds on it, its pocket change.  And people with that kind of money don't care about value for money. If someone wants it they will buy it no matter what people say.

Lets hope the 980 drop in price, im seriously thinking of buying 2 980 to upgrade from my 670 SLI. I just playing the waiting game atm. 2 980 is not overkill on this forum trust me lol.

Let them spend the money on what they want if they get any benefit out of it that's up to them. I can think of better things which are more expensive and a waste of money than 4 way SLI.
 
I myself have allways used 2 way SLI I would not increase that nor go back to one card.  Yea its overkill "hate saying that word lol" There will allways be people with money to burn even if its a complete waste of money.  Looks at the companies which sell the graphics cards they are looking for people like that

I agree with "incarnate", The price/proformance  ratio from a 970 to 980 is not worth it. However saying that it depends on a few things your side, Money and you want to have the best hardware going. Generally I find people will bucket loads of money allways go for the better proformance card no matter the price. People will less money allways go for the proformance based on the price

Im in the same situation atm got enough money to buy a new gpu or 2 gpu's but im waiting tbh. See what AMD brings out and then NVidia. Its a waiting game tbh, you just NEED the will power to resist getting a new gpu right now try and hold off for a short while it will be worth the wait I reckon

Lets hope you didn't buy the Titans for just SLI, because if you did sell one and buy the same titan with a titan or titan black
