Well, there's only three real contenders. The Deall G3, the TUF in the second row, and the Nitro next to it (second row, second from the right). Those have GTX1650s instead of 1050s (you're looking at 50ish percent more FPS in games with the 1650).
Of those, the Intel 9300H seems to outperform the Ryzen chip in general. So I'd say go with the nitro, since it has a larger SSD.

CMOS clearing can be annoying af in my experience. Try a couple of times. Just take the batter out and wait for a while. That worked for me before.

German_John reacted to Senzelian in nvme to PCIe adapter - any downside to super cheap ones?
First of all, the cheap adapters should be just fine, but I wanted to touch on this sentence I quoted.

HDDs and SSDs (or SSMs (Solid State Modules) are being specified by the following technologies:
Protocoll (ATA, NVMe, ...) Interface (PCI-e, SATA, ATAPI, AHCI, SAS ...) Connector (PCI-e x4, PCI-e x16, M.2, U.2, SATA, SFF-8643, ...) Formfactor (2.5", 3.5", M.2 2280, ...) You can almost always mix these with each other however you want and get a functional drive.

What you consider to be a NVMe SSD uses the NVMe protcoll, on a PCI-e interface, with probably a M.2 connector in a M.2 2280 formfactor.

    So back to your quote:
NVMe is not PCIe, but both technologies are often combined.

    It does!
Because I'm apparently an idiot. I put an old CPU heat sink on my table and my mouse cord dragged across it. It sounded so much like the menu sounds...
probably because it made that same sound when I was in the menu, because the cord was dragging then, too. Derp.

I've switched to Linux, mostly. Right now I'm on Windows 10, which I use for days at a time when I want to play something that's doesn't work with Lutris. Really, most of what I do is in a browser, so there's no difference.
It happened pretty gradually, I'd been playing around with Linux for a few years, then made the jump to a chromebook for uni, got crouton for some of the weirder programs that I needed. Last year I built my first PC and went for Ubuntu, plus Windows 10 for those few times. My old laptop still runs windows, but I've moved my voice recording station over to Lubuntu, my girlfriend to mint and/or Ubuntu (she's not complaining too much. It's free, it's faster, and all she needs is libreoffice, a browser, and audacity).
And man I'm happy with it.

Funny, I've had lots more compatibility problems (hardware wise) on Windows. I've had one laptop from 2003 that just plain wouldn't work (wouldn't even recognise a connected PS2 device), and one more modern where the touchpad wouldn't work, but the touchscreen would, weirdly enough. Other than that, I'd never had to install drivers or mess with anything, even for GPUs (unless I wanted features like DXVK, etc.). On Windows, running anything without AMDs own drivers sucked for me, I don't know why I still at times need to install drivers for regular USB devices, and the weirdest one for me was actually software: playing the original kotor on Windows 10 just didn't work at all, even in XP compatibility mode. Wine on Ubuntu did it perfectly (once I had set the resolution to something modern).

Hey, I've solved the problem. How, I will never know.

Anyway, this is what I did:
I created a Windows 10 medium and installed Win10. Then I downloaded Ubuntu 18.04 on that Windows install, plus Rufus. I then used a third stick (I'd used two before that both failed), this time USB 2.0, and there you go. Happily sitting here on my gnome desktop now!
Thanks so much for your help!

    German_John got a reaction from brob in i3 8100 vs R5 1600?
AFAIK, AMD has stated that the AM4 socket will be supported until 2020. Let's see about chipsets though...

I think motherboard price should be taken into account, since even an overclockable motherboard can be had for about €40 less than a Z370 motherboard (but doesn't offer SLI or crossfire - that'd bring them closer).
Also, here the 8400 is about €40 more expensive than the R5 1600, so if you factor in the mobo cost, that's 80 bucks more - I don't find that very reasonable, especially considering that could basically get you an R7 1700 as well. The closest would be an 8350k and z370 motherboard vs an R5 1600 and a B350 motherboard.

    Would not recommend here.
It's my go-to for people who've used Windows for ages and need a new machine. I originally turned to it because I couldn't set Vista up in English (crappy OEM, not that good with these things back then) and now I basically do all the systems in Zorin for humanitarian work because then the users have the same OS. (We don't use Windows because 1. it's expensive, 2. it needs its updates for security and 3. they don't have fast internet or flatrates there)
It feels a LOT like Windows 7. However, it's not as stable as your normal LTS, and it needs resources. I feel like it's comparable to a KDE desktop. I would not recommend using it with any less than 2GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo at 2+ GHz, really. I don't know about OPs CPU, but the RAM will not be enough.

So really, both Cinnamon and LXDE are Windows enough. My mum can use it, so OP will feel right at home

Nice, I thought it was a proprietary cable, since I'd never seen that before. Probably just rather outdated. ^^
Thanks for the quick help, now I'll see that I can pull the ATX power supply from some old tower and maybe just shove the correct wires in there. Worst thing I fry the Amiga.

Yes, he's gone according to his Twitter. It seems he was temporary for the move (which makes sense, considering his jobs were mostly handyman-things, judging from the videos). Although he might be in a Super Fun at some point (I bloody hope so)

Also, Linus mentioned on WAN a few weeks ago that they had a bad experience introducing someone publically before they actually knew they were gonna stay. I don't think that was about Justin though. Wouldn't know who else, though.

German_John got a reaction from HKZeroFive in HELP BUILD A PC
That's gonna be more a case issue than a motherboard issue. As far as I know, all modern motherboards will come with three or more SATA headers. The case will accept one 2.5" (so an SSD) and three or four 3.5" (so hard drives, although you most likely can adapt down to 2.5" there). Should be no problem

    EDIT:
started writing before your reply. If you build enough bays for the drives, that's no problem (sounds cool, what are you planning to do?). Anyway, the mobo you picked supports four drives.

As I have posted before: desk analogy.
cache (don't do this, it confuses people) is the one item you have in your hand, or however much you can hold in them
RAM is what's lying around on your desk and you can just move your arms and grab. Bigger desk, put more stuff on it
HDD is a filing cabinet ten feet from your desk - get up, walk over, open, take what you need...
Getting an SSD is basically adding a drawer to your desk where you put stuff from the cabinet in and get to it much faster.

My father still uses some Nokia phone (non-smart, and yes, he pays a lot for it because noone has stock anymore), but also uses whatsapp on it.
Dad: "Hey, xy sent me something that says touch me [a button that says touch me ffs] but I don't have a touchscreen, so... can I forward it to you and you try?"
Me: "Sure, we can try that [very sceptical already]."

Honestly, he pays over a hundred euros for it, which is in the neighbourhood of the moto e and above the LG Leon.
Also, he complains about how he can't use all the apps I can use on his phone, and how he loves android and how it's great, so... it's that thing he does where he acts like he knows ALL about tech but then pays six hundred bucks for an APU based desktop with 8 gigs of ram and not even an SSD.
