So, I have been out of the PC building loop for the past few years. I built my rig back in December 2014 with a 5930K CPU and the Asus x99 deluxe motherboard (full specs below). It has been running great until earlier this month when random CPU overheating errors popped up.
Essentially I went through a bunch of troubleshooting and all signs pointed to the pump on the liquid cooler (Kraken X61) giving out and I replaced it was a X62. That did not solve the issue and I got assistance from a friend with a 5820k to test out the individual parts and everything worked when isolated except the mobo. I am wondering if at this point it makes sense to upgrade the cpu and mobo together. I was very happy with the performance for the past 3 years (gaming, sandboxing, mining rendering) and if the rig had not stopped working, I probably would not be looking at making a change in cpus and would have put the money toward a Vive.
