Consoles are fixed targets. One game deploys to millions of units. On PC, most units are quad core or less. There are very few true quad core units (AMD FX isn't really quad core since it only has 4 FPU units.)
Edit: There are basically NO 8 core CPUs on the desktop. You quite simply CAN'T count AMD FX CPUs as octa core, even if your love your CPU. It's not since it's handicapped via the lack of dedicated FPU per core.

jamese669 reacted to Captain_WD in Is a usb 3.0 hdd fast enough for games
Hey there jamese669, Games generally rely on the storage's performance only for the loading times and autosaves. FPS and graphics are not affected at all. Do have in mind that some games cannot be installed on external drives but for the ones that can the USB3.0 port should allow good-enough speed for problem-free gaming. It would depend on the particular drive itself. Captan_WD. -
jamese669 reacted to LegacyStijncat in Can some one explain why there such a ridiculuse resource usage
Avast is my preferred antivirus (Free for ever, finds viruses well, free browser security), and Anti Malwarebytes (free basic usage, finds malware well)

Your screenshot is complete ballsacks.
That is the worst advice I have heard. Sometimes you may not want something, and it may not be Windows/drivers, but it still may be needed for proper function...

jamese669 reacted to xeromynd in The Snarky "Why Do You Think You Need [X]" Comment
I'm sorry, I just have to post on this, it's something I've been fed up with for the longest time. I've gotten this snarky crap in brick-and-mortar stores, with online sales reps, and with many forum-users. I'm so sick of it. Sorry for the incoming rant.
Basically, this is how I've seem so many threads and conversations irl go:
Question: "Hey I need help, does anyone know if this setup can handle FirePro cards? I need to buy some."
Person X: "Why do you think you need FirePro cards? A GTX970 will be fine for gaming"
Person Y: "You don't need a FirePro or Quadro card..."
Person Z: "Those are for video rendering...."
I've heard this exact conversation go down. Turns out the guy was sent in by his boss to buy cards for 3d rendering for their farm or something. Yet the employee automatically jumped on his high horse and thought "surely he jests! this lowly consumer must be trying to play CS:GO! hah!"
In the case of this forum:
Why is our first instinct to assume the OP has no knowledge of what they're asking, and why do half the posts go straight to pinning the exact usage scenario as 'hurrdurr 60FPS gaming'
I'm sick of seeing & hearing people have to defend their reasons for wanting or needing a product before they buy it. You shouldn't need to get past an Elitiest PC/Tech bouncer just to buy a damn component.
Call me a big whiny bitch, but I've walked out of a Micro Center before, because the snarky-as-f**k employee basically wanted me to prove to him why I thought I needed a 6-Core processor. First assumption was that I was gaming. Wrong, no thanks. Processors, understandably, are behind locked cages and I unfortunately needed this "enthusiast hardware bouncer" to even get the product. Gave up.
Asgsjfgosiejff.
Anyone else sick of this mentality?
/rant
tl;dr: is it so much to ask for us not to assume things.

jamese669 reacted to SIGSEGV in Age when you got your first PC
Like, 0-3 years old (it was an RM PC, used to think it was IBM but I did some more research and the logo I remember turned out to be RM). Ran Windows 2000 and I used to play Lego Racers and mess with paint and the maze screensaver. It had no internet connection.
First Mac:
An iBook G3 off of ebay when I was about 8 years old.
First custom built:
14 years old, build a few months back and mostly from parts off of ebay and slowly being upgraded
