  1. I just watched a video on dram from Linus, I didn't understand it that well but from what I can see buying a drive with DRAM is better than buying one without DRAM, he is going to be using this as a boot drive so I assume it would be a better decision to buy something with DRAM?
  2. For the motherboard manual it says that "it allows you to install a m.2 (ngff) Ssd modual" it also states that "it will support 2280,2260,2242 and pcie or sata devices. Does this mean that I will be able to buy SAMSUNG 980 M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 and it will support the speeds fully?
  3. So my friends birthday is coming up and I wanted to get him a m.2 ssd but his computer is not old but not new either, I recently just bought myself some WD Black sn750s, and when I was buying them I noticed different speeds, with gen 4 at around 7000 MB/s, I checked my motherboard and found that it supports Gen 3 so I made sure to get that. Anyways my friends motherboard is a Asus z170-k he got it pre-built IBUYPOWER I looked up the manual and it said it supports m.2 but not much else from what I can find (as in gen 3-4), my question is how will I know what speeds it will support? Because if it will only support around 500 MB/s then I figure it might be easier to just go with a 2.5 SSD instead, or I might look into getting a Adapter so that we can get him a NVME gen 3 drive that I just bought, I would like to get the highest speeds possible if its not to much of a hassle since he plans on upgrading within a year or two. Here is the link to the Asus site with the manual I was looking at https://www.asus.com/us/SupportOnly/Z170-K/HelpDesk_Manual/
  4. Disable Imessages? Is there a security risk involved with having them enabled or something? I am most likely going with the s20 FE. Also I agree US market is not so great for phones
  5. I mean yeah I could do that, they also have the s20 FE which would only cost 150, its just kinda the feeling of not liking my phone for 2 whole years then losing most of its trade in value.
  6. I was curious to see peoples thoughts between the two phones, before I owned a LGG6. I really wanted to try getting an iPhone I bought into the hype of the iPhone 11, and now I kind of hate my phone simple things like transferring my music from my computer to my phone has become a frustrating process of downloading iTunes and still not getting it to work the way I want. I hate it when you open apple music, to play music you own and it gives you an ad to their subscription of apple music premium. Long story short I want to go back to android but not if its going to be a worse experience. I saw Linus made a video about why you should get the s20 ultra, but with trade in and promotional offers I can get the s20+ for 499 which I don't mind. I use metroPCS and want to make sure the phone works on my network I know samsung works on their network hence why I looked at this phone. Any thoughts or words of advice from S20 owners, maybe even people who did something similar?
  7. So I took the card out and I tightened all the screws except for the one that has the warranty sticker on it. And before I did that I gave a good squeeze like you said to do, I cant really tell if there is that much play at all seems like it would be a factory thermal paste issue. But after doing all that I put it back up in my case with the brace from the gpu sagging prevention bracket, and ran heaven on extreme and max temps after 5-10 minutes was about 76 C. After watching a video of a disassembly of this card I realized that it has thermal pads which in the past I haven't had to deal with so I am not sure if I am comfortable voiding that warranty sticker and taking the card apart unless its really worth it. Since mounting this GPU bracket it doesn't randomly go to 100% fan speed all the time for short spurts. Though one lesson I learned from this is that this is the second big issue I have had with an MSI product and their QC is not good enough for me. Spending 1000 dollars for a project is something I didn't want. Edit: Mannnn I know that I should take the card apart but im nervous about messing up the placement of the thermal pads and voiding this sticker
  8. As it turns out my case fans. Are not the true issue with my cooling my RTX 2080 has a separate issue that is causing its temps to soar to the sky. So switching the fans out with new ones would help but in my case it would make more sense to fix the issue with my card. Something wasn't tighten down on the cooler correctly from the factory so it cools really bad. I made a separate thread addressing the issue though.
  9. So after working on the card a bit more it seems that it is sagging which is what is causing these high temps I put in the included support bracket which helps but doesnt help as much as it could instead of a 6c difference its more of a 3-2 difference now. Though I guess it could be that its not sagging and the pressure is from the bracket is just helping it push more on the chip itself but who knows its atleast a little better now
  10. I understand that 80C is fine but for this card. but that doesn't change the fact that squeezing on the card is making it run literally 7 to 8 degrees C cooler. Hence why im probably going to try to tighten some of the screws
  11. So I bought a RTX 2080 Msi gaming Trio and few months back and it runs really really hot reachs 80C easily. I could not figure out what it was I tried everything literally everything I was thinking of spending $200 on case fans. I started running a benchmark and I thought "What if its not touching the cooler good enough" so I tried squeezing the heatsink and the back of the card together with my fingers and what do you know, bam it goes from 79 down to 72 instantly. Then I let go, boom back up to 79. I did this a couple more times and every time same result. So should I disassemble the card and change the thermal paste and re put it back together? Or should I tighten the bolts on the back of the card. I really dont want to rma a card for them to do something I could do at home. I have changed thermal paste on my graphics cards before I just didnt do it on this one.
  12. So recently, I just realized that my video card was super choked for air. I have the 2080 trio MSI card, the Phanteks P350X case and a noctua u12s. Anyways I had two 140mm fans that were corsair in the front to pull air in and the basic fan that came with the case moved to the back to pull air out. This setup before was causing my video card to reach 80C easily. Since then I have changed somethings around. I got rid of the 140mm corsair fans and replaced them with the 4 pin fans that come with the hyper 212 evo, since I had two of them lying around. One of the 140 mm fans was moved to top of the case to suck air out. Also I replaced the stock case fan with a corsair fan 120mm that I had lying around. with these changes my graphics card when gaming stays at around 75C. But the issue is the noise, I took all of these fans from old builds so they are a bit noisy. I was looking at Noctua fans, specifically the NF-A12x25. Would it be a wise investment to spend $120 on getting 4 of these and replacing all the ones I have just put in or Should I consider a different case? Should I consider getting 2 140mm fans from noctua? My case can fit two of these in the front, but 120s from my experience fit in more cases rather than 140mm, my case can fit both. So I could get 2 140mm and 2 120mm.
  13. Yeah I was thinking that as well sucks because the card is so hot but, not worth the process of RMA if it dies ill just buy a different one
  14. Is there anything else I could do to help this issue, other then RMA. I just filled out a ticket and they want me to pay for shipping and said that it will take 15 to 35 days for me to get the card back not including shipping, like I would rather just buy a different card at this point also I do not know what they will say. They could just send me back my card with nothing changed to it.
  15. I am going to contact customer support even on my old case I would take the side panel off and it would still hit a good 76-77C and be super loud. Its the middle of winter for me and I thought it was maybe because the room was too hot so I would take the side panel off and also open my window. I would be gaming in the cold my room would be freezing and the card maybe dropped like 3C from what it was at.
