Can you elaborate why curved isn't ideal for work?
-
Oh forgot to mention that the monitor is 1440p, so I think I'm good there. Do you mean that I have to get 144 fps in order to fully utilize the monitor? I'm guessing that in Windows this won't be a problem. I have actually already watched the Hardware Unboxed review of this monitor. He was quite positive but did not really mention the smearing.
-
Oh alright that's good news. Will this smearing occur when I'm for example scrolling on a website in dark mode and white text? If so, how bad will that be?

Hi, I'm currently in the market for a new monitor mainly for productivity (home office) and I would like to get a 34" ultrawide monitor. High refresh rate is not necessarily a must have, but since it's only a small increase in price, I might as well get a 144 of 165 Hz monitor. I have set my eyes on the AOC AOC CU34G2X, which is a 165Hz VA panel. I'm currently using an IPS screen, so VA monitors are completely new to me. According to my research the contrast of VA panels is generally much better than IPS, but comes with black smearing. VA seems the better way to go since curved IPS screens are quite expensive and with this size I'd think that a curved display is much nicer than a completely flat one. Since I will mainly use the monitor for productivity (think Word, Excel, Teams, web browsing,...) I was wondering whether or not this black smearing is an issue or not. Thanks!

Fair points, thanks for the input. Though I have been seeing quite a drastic drop in prices of GPUs in my area lately and more availability. If this trend continues maybe I'll look into picking up a GPU so I can finally game again. I've seen the RX 6500 XT for around MSRP for example. Only thing I'm wondering if I will be bottlenecked by my older CPU...

Hi, My current computer has some fairly old hardware in it (i5 4690k) and no GPU. I'm interested in buying an ultrawide 1440p 144 Hz monitor mainly for work and browsing the web. I am however not sure if this older hardware is able to handle this resolution/framerate. According to the website of Intel, my CPU can handle 4K at 60 Hz. Does this mean that my CPU will be able to handle 1440p 144 Hz? Also, my motherboard is quite old and only has an HDMI input. Technically if the monitor supports HDMI 2.0, 1440p 144 Hz should be no problem. However on for example the website of LG it says that you need a Displayport to be able to set it to 1440p 144 Hz. Other manufacturers do not specify this. Ultimately my question comes down to this: can my 4690k handle the above resolution and framerate over HDMI? If not, is it possible to bypass this with an active HDMI to DP adaptor or not? Thanks!

This morning I did some more testing, and managed to get to 4.5GHz on 1.3v. My CPU did not throttle while running Cinebench R15, and I am currently doing a stability test in Aida64 where my temps are not going above 80°C and I'm constantly sitting at 100% load at 4.5GHz with zero throttling. Does this sound right?

Hi all, I have a pretty old i5 4690k and today I started experimenting with overclocking this ancient CPU. I'm currently running at 4.2 GHz and 1.3 Volts. I am using Prime95 for stress testing and even though it is not crashing, I am observing core clock drops every 30 second or so, with clock speeds dropping to 800 MHz for a brief second each time. I assume this means my overclock is not stable? If I look around on the internet, most people seem to be getting at least 4.2 GHz with lower voltages, so I am not sure what the issue is. My temperatures did not exceed 88 degrees when I ran Prime95 for half an hour or so, so I don't think it its thermal throttling. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks!

Hi all, I have had my eye on the Cyberpunk game for a while now. The thing is that my hardware isn't great as I have a RX 580 (4GB variant) and a pretty old CPU (i5 4690k, currently not overclocked) and 16GB of DDR3 RAM. My plan is to purchase the game on Steam and tinker with the settings to see if I can get a playable experience. This would ideally be at least 60+ fps, but since my monitor supports Freesync I think it might also be playable at lower framerates. If I play less than 2 hours and then decide whether or not it is a pleasurable experience for my eyes, I could very easily refund the game without any issues through Steam right? Is this the case or am I missing something? Thanks!

Hi all, I'm currently in the market for a new keyboard, but I cannot seem to find a keyboard that fits following requirements: - Dedicated media keys (volume, play/pause and preferably a volume scroll wheel) - A full keyboard, so no TKL, I really need the numpad - Preferably MX Brown-like switches, so not too loud but still tactile - Has to be available in AZERTY since I'm from Belgium which is one of the few countries that doesn't use QWERTY - Under 150 EUR Can anyone make a recommendation? Thanks!

Allright thanks for the tip! Although I have not yet seen junior positions for information security. I'm from Belgium, so maybe that has something to do with it. I will have a look if I can find some junior positions in information security, since that does sound very interesting indeed. Thanks for the super detailed explanation! Do you have any suggestions for things I can look up, books I can read, YouTube clips I can view in order to gain a better understanding of how the daily life of a software tester looks like?

Hello all, I am currently considering a career switch from accounting (my current field) to IT. Technology has always interested me, along with everything related to computers. However, I have no degree in an IT-related field. Therefore if I were to make the switch to IT with little to no background, people have told me that software testing is the way to go as it is a good position to start in. I currently have quite a few options to start as a junior software tester, with most options offering a traineeship ranging from 2 to 4 weeks training. These companies are aware of my limited background in IT but are still willing to invest in a training for me. I have already looked up some information about software testing (V model of testing, SDLC, STLC and all the different types of testing), but that still doesn't give me a clear picture on how my day to day job would look like. I was hoping you guys could help me out to paint a picture of the daily job of a software tester. I also have a few additional questions: - How many hours per day do you work? I'm asking because in my current field, doing 10-12 hours a day is considered very normal, and I'm currently looking for a job that leans more towards a 9-5 mentality. - What are the career opportunities like? Is it possible to climb up the ladder in IT if I work a couple of years as software tester? - What are the key differences compared to functional analists? Thanks!

So basically I'll be starting my first job on September 30th, and during the contract signing they helped me install and setup the Microsoft Authenticator app on my phone to sign in into the online platform of my company. The thing is, my phone is starting to run a bit slow and I'd like to completely reset my phone (OnePlus 3), but I don't know if I can just simply reinstall the app after the reset and sign in without problems. Can I do this without bothering the HR department? Thanks!

So I originally wanted to buy the 58X's, but since I live in Europe it would take way too long for the headphones to arrive and would be a bit too expensive for my taste due to import taxes. This morning however, Massdrop released a European version of the 58X for €190. The thing is that I bought the Sennheiser 599's a few days ago to replace my dead 598's. My question is, if I use headphones primarily for gaming and a bit of movie watching (I very rarely listen to music with headphones), is it worth returning my 599's and getting the 58X's for €40 extra?
-
Oh you're right, sorry about that. Would the 6XX or 58X be better than the DT990? If so, in what way?
-
Okay thanks for the info! I have considered both the 58x and the 6xx but I'm just not a huge fan of the cable running to both earcups + I find a 3m cable just way too long to be functional.
-
I used to have Sennheiser 598's until I sat on them and broke them, so now I'm looking for a replacement. I've been looking around on the internet and I have decided I want to go either with a Sennheiser 599 or a Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro. The Beyerdynamic has a much better build quality, which I find important, but then again the Sennheisers have a detachable cable while the 990 does not. I really can't decide between both, I have a decent amp so I'll have no problem driving the 250 Ohm version of the Beyerdynamics. My main use cases are watching movies and gaming.
