  1. Is there somewhere that we can watch this conversation?
  2. I initially started this conversation in the tier thread and then realized I should have started a new thread instead, other than maybe mentioning the death there, so here we go... I had (have) and EVGA 750gq. Realizing this isn't the greatest unit for the system I have now and feeling a want for a bit more headroom, I bought an RM850x on Friday. It died a few hours ago while playing a game. The computer abruptly powered off and wouldn't do anything even after toggling switch and physically disconnecting/reconnecting mains. I pulled the RMx out and put my GQ back in and everything is working again; the rest of my hardware seems fine. She's dead. RIP RM850x Friday-Sunday. I realize this was just astronomically bad luck given the reputation of the RMx, but nevertheless it puts me back at square one. The RMx cables were terrible to work with in my case and I was about to order aftermarket cables, but given that I am back to start anyways I'm in a position to potentially pick a different PSU entirely rather than buy cables if it is feasible to do so. Given the choice, I would prefer to get the best PSU possible with cables that work for me for the budget rather than spending part of that budget on custom cables. Obviously, I am within the return period and therefore not restricted to RMA though certainly a direct exchange for another RM850x is possible. I mentioned the Seasonic Prime TX850 and Focus GX850 in the brief tier list conversation about this and the responses were that they are having issues with Ampere cards and the advice, so far, had been to try another RMx. Even though I realize it was bad luck, it has left me a bit sketched in addition to the aforementioned issue with the stock cables. Thus, I decided to start this new thread rather than continue to clog up that one in search for additional opinions and thoughts. System Specs: Ryzen 3900x NH-U14s w/ 2xNF-A15 x570 Tomahawk 3080 FTW3 Ultra 2x16gb Ballistix @3600 1.35v WD SN750 1tb WD SN550 1tb Fractal Define 7 Compact 3xNF-A14 2xNF-S12a Preferences if possible: 3x8pin PCI-E individual (or 2xSingle+1xDual) 2xEPS12v 4+4 No go boom I'm not fundamentally opposed to trying another RMx; lightning is even less likely to strike twice, right? However, as I said, I'm back at start so it can't hurt to ask. If the Seasonic Prime and Focus are both being tripped by 3080s then obviously they aren't going to work. I also looked at the HX which is currently $50 more than the RMx, if I stick with Corsair is it worth moving to that or is that just unnecessary extra money? Any additional thoughts?
  3. I realized that I should have started a new thread, other than maybe mentioning the RM850x RUD here, and thus I'm going to do that. Sorry for clogging up this thread.
  4. Ahh... I had only seen the possible issue with some Focus and assumed it was isolated to older models (per the list and the first footnote). I hadn't seen that the Primes were also affected.
  5. Yeah, everything I had read before making the purchase said they were super reliable. I was rather surprised and a bit worried something else had died when it happened but it certainly presented as PSU. Put the unit I had replaced back in and everything else is fine. RIP RM850x. Not worth going to those Seasonic Primes or Focus GX? I kind of hated the stock cables on the RM850x anyways; they don't work well with my case. I was ready to order some cables but since I'm back to square one anyways I would rather spend the money on a better PSU than on aftermarket cabling if I am going to spend the money either way if that is feasible.
  6. Well...bought a RM850x for a little extra headroom and to get a better overall unit than what I had (and am back on right now). It lasted 2 days before completely dying... Thankfully, everything else in my system seems fine, but I'm back to square one and also a bit sketched out even though I recognize it was just bad luck. Ryzen 3900x (probably going 5900x, unless I blow my budget on a PSU haha), RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra, x570 Tomahawk. Thinking maybe Seasonic Prime TX850 or TX1000, though would really rather not spend that much. I would prefer one with flat cables to the extent possible and preferably 3xPCI-E 8pin single cables rather than dual headed, but that part I may be willing to compromise on if necessary. I was looking at the Focus GX-850, but I've seen people mention that it trips on 3080s, is that true of the newer models as well?
  7. Helping a friend with his son's newly built system. Getting accurate information has been a headache as it is a teenager being relayed through my friend to me and there have been some communication failures, but here is my best-understanding. It was built about 6 weeks ago. It worked "fine" for 2 weeks without complaint and then entered a boot/windows repair loop. At this point I was helping remotely mostly by text and talked him through getting into advanced boot options and running a system restore. That seemed to fix it and the system worked "fine" for about 2 more weeks except for a couple "restarts" though I believed these to be it going through the shutdown/startup process I now believe these were resets where it just instantly restarted and didn't get stuck. Now we are up to a month in, and 2 weeks ago, from the computer being built. It, again, entered boot/windows repair/reset loop. Friend got it booted to a windows install usb, wiped both drives in case his son had gotten anything on it, and re-installed windows. I had him run some diagnostics, AIDA seemed stable for hours. Memtest was stable overnight. Again, I was told since then until yesterday that it was working "fine" except for a few "restarts." Yesterday, while the kid was in online class and writing a report, it reset and entered a loop. Friend couldn't even get it to stay booted to USB to try to run recovery tools. I went and picked up the computer. It booted to desktop for me at first go, but upon launching AIDA it promptly reset. It kept resetting anytime I tried to stress it and a few times intermittently between. I started ruling things out. I've replaced/ruled out everything except the CPU and motherboard. Prime95 instantly crashes and/or resets the computer. AIDA64 FPU-stress only ran for a couple of hours for me. AIDA memory stress ran for hours. AIDA CPU stress (only that checkbox marked) resets the machine within minutes. With only stress cache selected, AIDA crashes the system in less than a minute almost every time. I have also, ofc, reset bios (several times) and updated bios without change. Ryzen 3600, MSI B550-A Pro. Which is bad? ----------------- Full Specs Ryzen 3600 Noctua NH-U14S (originally stock cooler, replaced when we realized during initial stress testing a few weeks ago that it was approaching 100C under those tests) MSI B550-A Pro 2x8gb Corsair Vengeance 3200 CL16 EVGA 650w GA (I think) Inland Professional 1tb nvme m.2 WD Black 4tb HDD EVGA 2060 KO Win 10 Pro 2004 (my portion, at least, of the testing has been done on a 1909-based rescue USB stick) Fractal Define 7 Compact w/ some extra fans As noted above, though, I've replaced/ruled out everything except mobo and cpu.
  8. There's a theoretical and benchmark hit, yeah. Real-world it is spec-dependent and with the specs on a LeEco3 it probably wouldn't be anything noticeable. Considering all of the personal and financial information we carry around on cell phones in 2017, it is absolutely worth it.
  9. See both edits at bottom. TLDR: They more than made up for it. -------------------- So....dbrand... Over the last couple of years, I have placed 3 orders with dbrand. You guys, and others, push them so much that I'm always hopeful they will get better. Their products are great, but their service is, well, not. First order actually arrived in a timely manner and was good. Great. Second order never arrived. This was before they started using tracking. After 2+ weeks they finally agreed to reship. Second shipment arrived more than a week later and was wrong. Not only was it completely missing items, but it had skins for devices I've never even owned and certainly did not order. Third shipment was, finally, right and was shipped with tracking and actually arrived...mere days before Christmas for my November order. Third order, placed just over 2 weeks ago, arrived last Wednesday and was wrong. I ordered 2 back skins for my Pixel XL. I received only one and it wasn't either of the ones I'd ordered. I, again, contacted dbrand. In doing so, I asked them to change one of the skins in my order to a different pattern. I got a reply 2 days later saying they would reship with changes. That shipment has not yet been sent and they haven't replied to a follow-up email I sent asking when it would be. ----------------------------- Edit: Since posting this I have received both tracking information for the replacement shipment and a full refund for the order, which I never even requested. Took them a little while longer than I'd have liked, but props to dbrand for making it right. Edit 2: The replacement shipment arrived. Not only was it correct, but it was doubled. I received 2 of each skin rather than the one of each that I had ordered. That is in addition to the full refund and the initial, incorrect skin they sent which has been protecting my device in the meantime. They may have messed up initially, but went above and beyond to correct it. Their CS has improved significantly since my issues with them in late 2015. Thanks dbrand for stepping up. I'll be looking to order a Grip bumper probably next week!
  10. Man, forums finally letting me post a reply... Definitely the Razer Blade Stealth. So sleek. So light. So Kaby.
  11. Working on getting setup to do some streaming and this would help out a lot
