  1. Nope, the only light is the bigger green LED that indicates there's power. The littler LEDs only come on when there are components missing, IE graphics card.
  2. Hey guys, So, my computer has been dead for about a month now. I believe it's the motherboard, but I'm not entirely sure. The power supply seems to be working okay, but I can't get it to boot at all. My dilemma is whether or not to completely switch sockets. I'm running an asus p9x79 with a 3820. It was overclocked to about 4.3ghz with temps running good. I want it running, but I'm stuck between going haswell or just replacing board, power supply, and ram. I would replace the PSU and ram anyways (the PSU is some Xtreme model or something stupid at 1000w and the ram is only 1333mhz). I've pretty much done all the troubleshooting I can with the system and haven't made any progress, going so far as to replace the cmos battery in desperation lol. What do you guys think?
  3. Alright, new development. Took out all the hardware and set it up on my desk on the mb box. It came to life. Found one of my ram sticks had a contact piece come off so took it out along with its counterpart on the other dimm slot. Booted just fine with the 8gb of ram. Put everything back in the case and cable managed again. Booted just fine again. Had to redo some overclocking settings, but it posted and went to windows after that. I played some borderlands 2 for about 2hours and then shut it down for the night. It hung in the shut down for like 5mins til I pushed the power button (to see what would happen). It shut off, but now running into the same issue as described before. Checked all my standoffs and gave the mb a good once over while it was out, nothing jumped out at me. Any new thoughts?
  4. I think the board is out of warranty, not entirely sure though. I was going to start with a new PSU (since it's cheaper) and go from there. The PSU is some Xtreme brand thing that just looks like a POS. I had the system built by Cyberpower PC like 2 years ago when I didn't know dick about this stuff (whether I know any more now is debatable). Thanks for the tips, and spam I guess? HTiLewis
  5. I don't have another psu to try, I'll have to order another one. I'll let ya guys know what I come up with.
  6. So, put the guts of my computer into a fractal xl r2 case and it worked. Using a 3820 on a p9x79 board, 16gb hyperx ram, 670 superclocked, 120gb Kingston ssd, 500gb storage drive, 1000w psu (xtreme or something like that brand) and a 120mm prefilled water cooler. Moved my computer today, just from the floor to a coffee table and now it won't boot. I've checked everything. Unplugged every cable, memok, took put ram one by one, took all ram but one stick out, took off video card, checked and rechecked every cable and nothing works. The psu works, tested via jump test. And there is a little green led lit up. The only suspicious thing I've seen was a fan screw sitting on my gpu near the pci slot. Could that have jiggled loose and somehow fried my mb? I'm stumped, but not overly unhappy. If the mb is fried then I can get something that actually has internal usb3 headers and a new psu. Any help would be great. Thanks!
  7. Just a little update. Got my 8 SP120 fans in and they are movin way more air than the other set up I had. They are quite a bit louder, but I can always undervolt them in the future if it bugs me too much.
  8. Thanks for the advice, but I was already thinking Bout that. I've wanted to get a modular psu with around 800w for awhile, just haven't had the money. Same with the ram. Hopefully soon though, I think a modular psu would clean it up just a little bit more.
  9. Thanks guys. Prolly add more pics once I get the fans in later this week.
  10. Alright, I was too impatient and added my led light strips into the machine. It looks much better in person thanks to my outstanding camera.
  11. Hey guys, New to the forum, but I thought I would post a little build log to show off what I've been able to do since being introduced to this site and to Linus and Slick. For some context, I'm going to post what my previous build looked like. Most of the components are the same except for the case and fans. This is a work in progress, but I hope you guys enjoy it and might have some suggestions for me. I don't have a name for it yet...and please excuse the pictures, they're from a combination of S3 and HTC one cameras. Here's the hardware: i7-3820 Asetek 510LC Liquid Cooling System 120MM 120GB Kingston SSDNOW V200+ SATA III 6.0Gb/s SSD - 535MB/s Read & 480MB/s Write 500GB Barracuda ASUS P9X79 Intel X79 16GB Kingston HyperX 1333 (I believe) 1,000 Watts PSU (Unsure of the name, probably the next thing to be changed out) Case fans are from the cases, having 8 SP120s shipped to me right now. The original case was a IN-Win dragon rider and I put a window in it; now I'm using a Fractal XL R2 and also put a window into it as well. In-Win computer: Fractal Build: I think it looks much tidier, although there are things that still need to be done. Still need to redo my light cables (made them from scratch) and put the fans that are coming in. I'll probably do those at the same time. Thanks for watching! Best, [HTi]Lewis
  12. Hey guys, I've just gotten a new case (Fractal XL R2 from an IN-Win Sh!trider) and I'm feeling really good about the possibilities. I'm running a 3820 at 4.4ghz (yea, I figured out how to OC it after about a year of having it) on a P9x79 board and I feel cooling is going to be my next adventure. I'm currently modding a window into the side of the case, which I don't recommend...the sound-deadening material is a biatch to get off. Here's my dilemma: the cooler I have right now is a 120mm closed loop radiator running two unnamed fans (I bought this before I knew anything about computers other than I needed a graphics card) and I feel it's time for a change with it. I am debating on whether to save my ducats up for a custom loop or go with a 240 closed loop system. I'm apprehensive about setting up a custom system because of the cost and the possibility of frying my system. Also, I'm wanting to change my graphics card and chip out at some point too. I'm going to be buying a few SP120 fans from corsair here soon to help out in the meantime. Thanks for the advice in advance, [HTi]Lewis PS: I bought this system from cyberpower pc and, while I thought it was a good deal at the time, I would have done a lot of things differently in hindsight.
  13. Thanks for the input guys. I've built in a r4 before and really enjoyed it. Went with the xl r2 and gunna do some mods to it. It arrives today, hopefully, and I'll try to get a build log going or something. Thanks again!
  14. Hey guys, I have a POS INWIN case right now...it just doesn't work for me at all. I even cut out the mesh on the side and put in acrylic for a window and it still doesn't do it for me. My budget is $2-300 right now and I want room for flexibility in the future. I've been gravitating towards the Corsair 800d, but should I throw in the little bit extra and get a 900? Also, wanting to stay in the full tower range, not a fan of small cases. Thanks, [HTi]Lewis PS: Slick is fired.
  15. Hey guys, HTi stands for Head Trauma inc, a company started by one of my buddies... Lewis being my last name. Really supposed to be [HTi]Lewis, but Linus won't let brackets in the username. It's prolly Slick's fault now that I think about it.
