  1. Yes but also the clocks are temperature sensitive so more power = more heat and in case of X3D you're most likely to run into higher heat load and thus get clock regression or clock stretching so it's not worth it unless you have really good cooling. And also it will do nothing for gaming as these chips sip power when playing games. It's in loads like Linpack Xtreme or OCCT where this will make the difference. Heck even Cinebench isn't that heavy for it to matter too much though it may affect the scores with weaker cooler.
  2. Just use Curve Optimizer. These CPUs are both power limited amd multiplier locked so there is no point trying to use PBO. You can get around power limit with skewing the CPU current Telemetry readings if you have option for that in the BIOS but that will not really help for gaming as you will never run into power limit when playing games.
  3. Either you have enough RAM or not. So if you can't use more than 16GB then you'll just degrade your performance.
  4. Game looks absolutely amazing. The tech is interesting as well. Game seems to run on two engines and the input is decoupled from the framerate!!!

That's all right, use whatever suits you best. I'm just saying that Linux gaming can be viable, not that everyone should switch. I myself wouldn't install any of those games with kernel based rootkit so 95%+ of my Steam library is playable on Linux without issues if I exclude those games.

Honestly, it's fine. It's actually better in some aspects than gaming on Windows. Obviously most stuff related to DRM and anti-cheat are broken but if you mainly play single player there's not much to be worried about.

I don't think that's a fair comparison in the first place (also you would have to include controller and screen in the budget as well) and also this scheduler would benefit any PC if you decided to run Linux for gaming on it.

  9. IDK how to judge performace based on Furmark bench... Furmark is usefull as a power virus to max out the power on the card as much as possible. I can tell you that the stock power of 6800 XT is 255W and this card is definitely running in a power limited state. In adrenaline SW you can go down to -6% from the stock power limit which would make it run at 239.7W max. Considering this card runs even lower than that suggest that either it's further limited by max clock and heavy undervolt (which on stock is around 2500MHz) or has some other SW or HW modifications. Either way, ask him to run this card in stock config and ask what are both the avg GPU temp and the hotspot temp.
  10. Define "just works" because from my experience there is no distro where things "just work". I always have to fix some stupid stuff and almost give up in the process. The irony being that the things you think are easy to fix take hours / days to find solution to and the things you think may be impossible just sometimes take one command line Obviously over time you learn to deal with these things but if you're new you often don't even know WHAT to search for to find the solution. I feel like people get hyped into Linux with and then get frustrated and leave. Instead of going in expecting a big learning curve at the start... unless you literally just need a web browser and text editor. (even then you can run into issues). And people who already know how to tread the waters a bit will also probably know what distro suits them better at this point so I don't really see much point in posts like this. I agree that ARmoury Crate is bad. I always disable it in the BIOS immediately.. same for the GIGABYTE and MSI alternatives.

What did I wake up to? That's the kind of scheduling this is about. It's about maximising the HW resources in the best and most efficient way possible so that the job can be done more efficiently and faster. There are multiple schedulers that are optimised for multiple workloads and there is no "one size fits all" unfortunately. This on focuses more on gaming performance than anything else. Basically the Intel issue was that job got assigned to the wrong cores that were not really suited for the job and it affected performance. Task scheduling as @Leventdescribed is just about giving priority to which task get's more HW resources but it does not really do anything else. (also it's pronounced "lewd" scheduler)

yeah you see, I'm kind of the opposite side of the coin you're rooting for,

not that I don't play singleplayer games

but I mean they already run without issues most of them, if they're optimized, optimization.. the developer's nemesis

  15. Probably https://pcpartpicker.com/product/9MHqqs/gigabyte-gs27q-x-270-2560-x-1440-250-hz-monitor-gs27q-x There are hardly any options in that price range with those specs
  16. Same. I either look at rtings or Monitors Unboxed. Regarding the OP, the GPU choice for lowish settings from the cards you mentioned will not really matter as much as a good CPU that can push and maintain high and stable frames.

  21. Will vary wildly from game to game. My 3900X was holding back my 3060ti in some CPU intensive games at 1440p while being more than enough in GPU intensive games. And what I mean by "holding back" is that I got only around 60-90FPS instead of 120FPS+.

Speaking of dead batteries. Our just 1y old photovoltaic hybrid system now has 1 busted battery and the other 12.6V battery measures just around 11.6V-11.8V now... (lead-acid batteries) so we have to RMA.
