Which headphones do you have in mind? And what are you use cases and budget? You shouldn't worry about the driver sizes.

I don't know the situation but that looks like straight up abuse, under normal use they should be just fine.  That's just my opinion and experience though.

I would not get any of those, as they have major construction faults, they use plastic in areas where the plastic will fail. The use of brittle plastic, plastic that can't handle bending, at places where plastic will be bent.
So far best construction and low cost is Philips Fidelio X2HR. The pics show my second pair.

They have replaceable 3.5 cable. the cable is 2 meter long I think.

When new the headphones are quite secure on a 59cm head, but if you do heavy head banging they will move.

Metal arch, and rings near the cups, the cups are plastic, but robust enough, but the stress areas are metal. So it won't fail by wearing it too much or taking it on and off too much.

They have served me well for about 3 years, and still going strong.
I've dropped them sometimes, I only got a small nick at the edge of the cup.
The pads started tearing, at the inside, where it has some rubbery, plasticy material. But you can buy aftermarket pads.
    Like these: https://dekoniaudio.com/philips_fidelio/replacement-ear-pads-philips-fidelio-x2hr/
But I've not tried them yet.
The eleastic band wore out 1 year ago. but also fixable. You can remove the glued on R & L caps, they are secured with soft adhesive. might fall off on their own.

I was satisfied with this headset, so i bought a second pair for use with my smartphone, and another for my dad.

    Audio quality:
I listen to a lot of rock, blues, rock blues, metal.
The audio is great, I can hear everything clearly, bass guitar is clear, guitar too, and hear cymbals well.
I even noises on recording that I would not hear with regular gaming headphones, like mouth sounds, sound of touching instruments, someone talking in the crowd, or various noises during recording like some random interference noise.

With gaming head phones I always had to turn down the bass, and turn everything else up in equaliser. not with Philips Fidelio X2HR. I find the stock audio to be great.

I will see if I can take some shots of the first pair with the worn pads.

I had the Airpods 3 and it's trash. The fit is indeed a problem. The sound is also not that good too so I returned it. I had the Airpods 2 and it's one of the most comfortable earbuds I had. I gave them to my sister as I got the Sony WF-XM4. She loves the comfort of the Airpods 2 too.

No amp required and that price point; all I have personal experience with is the Phillips Fidelio X3 (or X2HR) and the Rode NTH-100  both of which are amazing headphones in their own right.

The Rode NTH-100 is an incredible and pleasing headphone, it sounds great on anything while producing full sound throughout the spectrum.  They're comfortable with cooling pads and without a doubt what I would purchase if I were you.  There has been a controversy with the ratcheting mechanism breaking for some people and I was one of those people.  My first set got demolished when I laid on them but Rode replaced them even when I explicitly told them that it was 100% due to extreme abuse.  That set had no issues for several months before I trashed them.  The second set started to crack within a month and I super glued them and they're fine now.  I just emailed Rode about this flaw and they assured me that it was a few bad batches and they're sending me a second pair as a gift!!!!  Don't let the appearance fool you either, they fit large heads and ears.  An audiophile friend of mine shook his head when he saw them and said no these will never........ oh wait they're really comfortable.  Rich bass good mid's no sibilance in the high's...... honestly everyone should have them esp people without a dac and amp.

Second would be the Fidelio X3 or X2HR;  These are amazing at soundstage and imaging while they have an overall warm sound to them, not bass heavy and not a bright headphone.  The bass is present but not strong.  They really like hybrid tubes too.  They are the defacto headphone in this price range but that's because I haven't swayed the populus of this forum to try the Rode.

I will say that the Tygr 300 R is supposed to be excellent but I haven't heard them.  I have heard the DT770-80ohm and they're a great headphone but they lack the full bodied character of the nth100 or the silky sound of the X3.  Don't get me wrong, they are a great all rounder and have their own charm but a jack of trades and master of none.

Rode NTH-100: Full sound on any device
Fidelio X3/X2HR: Warm silky sound with excellent soundstage and imaging
    DT770-80: Accurate studio grade

I will add that Beyerdynamic does an excellent job at making replacement parts for their headphones and Zeos did an entire pad video on all kinds of Beyerdynamic headphones, so that's another way you can have fun and tune the sound.  While the Rode and Phillips don't need or want pads and I don't even think they can be swapped (but can probably be replaced)

I hear a lot of EDM and this I mentioned in my own thread about getting my first pair of open back headphones. I was recommended the beyerdynamics TYGR 300 R and I really like them. Sound is clear and good, soundstage is super wide and with EQ'ing you can actually get a tat boomy bass. Not as much as with closed backs but the boominess is actually there.

    I run mine with:
    + 2dB @ 65Hz
    + 4dB @ 125Hz
    + 2dB @ 200Hz
    - using Equalizer APO (and Peace), also with a tat of extra treble. I like the "sparkle", hehe. I use a DAC with my TYGR 300 R, the FX Audio DAC X6.

I will recommend you the TYGR 300 R 🙂 They also not that expensive honestly.

That is if you feel like wasting money on a 4K display. 1440p is really the highest resolution that seems logical right now because the frame rates at 4K and higher are appallingly low unless you're using a 4090. 4K is really only for those people that like a stunning image and don't care about how crisp the game play is, have an ass load of cash and afford the prices on premieum tech, have bought into the corperate marketing that 4K is the only resolution that gamers should care about, or any combination there of. Oh and nearly all the 4K and higher monitors I see these days are curved. Curved monitors are like the dumbest display gimic in the world they drive my eyes nuts.

CTR640 reacted to Curufinwe_wins in Experimental Youtube "feature" detects and blocks some users of ad blocking browser extensions on Youtube
This is just false. It isn't even remotely worth pretending to be true, and is intellectually dishonest. If you live in the US, it is literally impossible that you have not seen malicious political advertising on youtube. Or a more directly malicious ad in general. Google routinely has malvertising get through its ad systems, so don't give me that BS line; they also have suffered more than a few failures to catch pornographic ads from going through despite that being supposedly against policy. Even more directly than that, more than once in the last decade, youtube suffered a large breach of literal malware ads directly on popular content. See 2014 Sweet Orange malware, which hit almost exclusively US users.

Pretending that many reputable sites, whose content is indeed worth existing, function consistently and properly without adblocking is ridiculous. Even BBC, which barely has ads at all breaks more than once a week for me with loading failures or banner ads that prevent accessing the content at all (due to not resizing properly). Or ads which autoplay audio and video content etc etc. There are many extremely valid reasons to use adblock by default and only permit certain sites, notably that the people buying ad slots and pushing for more and more ads content (those same ads that are intrusive and/or even interface breaking being by far the most profitable) don't give a shit about the user experience. Youtube doesn't care either, more engagement is good for buisness, even if it is being pissed off or negative experiences due to shitty ads.

And I don't blame them for not caring. They exist to make a profit, and get as much money as possible with as little effort as possible (as does every company, I'm not singling them out), and if their value matrix says they'd rather make a site non-functional or spread harmful content than control their greed, I have absolutely no moral or ethical qualms doing everything in my power to A bypass those constraints and B make the platform actually worth using for me.

PS: I pay for premium, and still use adblock. Spite has nothing to do with it.

CTR640 reacted to Sauron in Experimental Youtube "feature" detects and blocks some users of ad blocking browser extensions on Youtube
    Why not?
Nowhere near the way they are now. Incidentally they had nowhere near as many ads and the ads they did have were much less intrusive.
Most of these have a paywall and/or are not comparable.
    Citation needed.
The content I enjoy isn't made by youtube. It's made by people who get a very tiny slice of the videos' ad revenue and usually rely on external contribution methods like donations or sponsor spots (which at least can be immediately and entirely skipped and don't interrupt the video at inconvenient times). If youtube implodes those people will likely just post elsewhere.
    Blocking ads is not piracy.
There are plenty of people who manage to make a living as a content creator while not monetizing their videos at all, and even if that weren't the case then so be it; it's not my duty to stress myself out in order to allow you to monetize your hobby. I, too, do things in my free time that don't make me any money; I'm not going around demanding that you sit through a dozen tedious ads so I can do them as my only job. Just like donations are voluntary, so is electing to watch an ad that makes me want to gouge my eyes out so you can make 1/1000th of a dollar.

And you know what? It's google that made it so ads are paid depending on the views they get. They didn't have to do that. When you pay for a billboard you don't get your money back because an eye tracking camera detected that a random person on the street wasn't looking up. They are the reason their own business model is not sustainable while also being maximally inconvenient. And I'm perfectly willing to let youtube die rather than watch a single manipulative ad in my free time or pay for the "privilege" not to see it, if it really comes down to that.

Less people in jobs means less money in the economy, less tax being paid, higher prices in general as less people are spending.  Paying less humans in a capitalist economy is always ultimately a bad thing.

Yes, that's what I mean, broader or airy-er soundstage. Closedbacks can do that too. I had the Beyerdynamic T5p 2nd and its soundstage is really impressive. But yeah, like I said, they are not really cheap. Personally I don't have preferences, be it openback or closed, I love all the headphones in my sig. So far the only closedback I have is the Amiron Wireless Copper. Excellent headphones, smooth sound and great soundstage too.

But Apple want to use garbage made specifically for their devices alone so if that chip dies you have to pay a stupid price for a whole new mainboard, no ability for third-party repair to fix it.

There were reports of the M1 Macs dying using Apples own charger, if using USB-C rather than the Magsafe connector.  How screwed up do you have to make the charging controller to do that?
