UPDATE! I took the risk and opened up the back of the monitor and to my surprise, there were some blown capacitors on its internal power suply, I desoldered them and replaced them and it works like new now! Too bad I didnt took any pictures   I was soo stressed

You know the properties but you don't understand all of the implication, nor do you understand the true meaning of things with just a basic thermodynamics class.

You don't have to quote your PhD to tell me that. I know thermodynamics can be understood as just a bunch of rules to apply, and basic classes can cover them. However I talked about the deep physical meaning which isn't taught in just a basic class. To understand it you have to study a lot of other things, like for instance quantum physics.
Most of the optimization in nuclear reactors are seen in advanced classes because they rely on principles beyond plain thermodynamics, and so is cooling something with an exotic state of the matter.
Heat transfers aren't done in basic thermodynamics classes, you don't learn non stationary conduction and convection, and radiation transfers without a bit of baggage. (Unless you butcher the mathematics part  )
Anyhow, just by curiosity, what does a nuclear engineer/researcher do?

    Thank you
The keyboard is a usb keyboard for tablets so it will be connected via usb. The touchpad is from an old laptop. I was able to make it work on a ps/2 port on my desktop. So I bought an active ps/2 to usb adapter from ebay. People on the raspberry pi forums said that these adapters actually work so I hope it works( It hasn't arrived yet).
As for the old laptop hinges, I found some but they are too bulky. I will see if i can find any old net bokk with small hinges to use.

So. I totally forgoten about my post here sorry for the guys that follow it. Anyway. Iv been working hard on this raspberry pi laptop and I have made HUGE progress over the last few days. It is like 90% complete. Its been a long time since I updated here so lets go.

I got everything. I made a new more rubost hdmi cable, designed my power delivery system, tested it, I went agead and bought some aluminum sheets(1mm thick) and started working.

So far so good. Everything works so far. Wifi works, speakers work, screen works, ethernet works, the usb hub works, the card reader works, they keyboard works, the batteries I hope they work and now almost everything electronic is mounted on the case and its usable. My real problem right now is the screen hingle. I have no idea how to make one that actually has friction and works like a regular laptop hingle. Any help would be apreciated.

    BY THE WAY.

You might look at it and " you need to sand it you need to paint it "......I will not paint it. I will putt a vynal wrap all around it. I am thinking about white carbon fiber i think it looks sick.

Sooooo I know i havent posted any updates here..... I will be honnest....I forgot to .... a lot of things happen... I got a raspberry pi model B 2. I have a battery and everything. I have it actually working. All it needs now is an enclosure. More info and photos will be available once school stops so that i will have more free time to work on it. The whole casing will be from aluminum BTW.

Just a small update. I ordered all the components i think i will need along with a xiaomi 10400mah 5v battery bank for the main battery and some voltage regulators.  I also created a 3d design of what the actually laptop might look like on the inside. Because the batteries are a little big, I had to compensate and create a small portion at the back. I know it wont look that good but at least i will have all that battery capacity. Now it would been perfect if i had a 3D printer handy to print the outer case but unfortunately I dont.... So thats what i am gonna need to figure next, how to made the case. Also I started working on the hdmi cable and so far so good I just need to make the case first to cut the wires where needed. As for a mouse pointer, I am going to be using ether an trackball from blackberry phone hooked up as a HID using an arduino or an analog stick from a psp. I am have not decided yet. I am also making a circuit to completely turn off the raspberry pi and start everything up with the press of a button.

Just a quick update. While desoldering some lvds headers from the screen controller I ripped 2 contacts and the display would not work properly after that. After some close investigations it seemed like the headers where needed to complete the circuit so i soldered them but 2 of them had no contacts on them. So I used an xacto knife to scratch the coating of where the connections where and used the tiniest tip on my soldering iron to bridge them and surprisingly it worked with the first try. Also the hdmi input jack arrived

Also I will have a lot more time to work on it now on holidays because right now i have very little free time.

you can also spot 2 other destroyed contacts.. these where ground and where not needed to complete the circuit so i just left them like that

So I started working and desoldered almost everything from the raspberry pi! It is now much MUCH thinner than it was before and to my surprise it still boots and works perfectly fine! Now its the lcd controllers turn to get every bulky thing desoldered!
BTW I will remove the capacitor and the onboard voltage regulator as well as the usb power port as i will power the pi from the gpio pins

BTW guys here is a video I uploaded using xbmctorrent for the first time...its actually works surprisingly well... if only my internet was faster.....
I also connected the speakers-amp to it and the screen. The screen is going to be connected with a diy hdmi cable that i havent made yet so I used a diy composite cable

OK Actually I lied I have one photo of the screen working with the pi ! It all sitting on an old tablet stand thing. Running openelec xbmc on the pi. The multimeter measures the current of the screen running at 12v

CLICK HERE FOR THE LATEST UPDATE

Hey there! 3 months ago i got this idea of building a raspberry pi laptop. So I googled around and found some people actually made laptops out of the raspberry pi but they weren't that portable and didnt really look like  laptop. So the idea got stuck on my head and I began research! my top priorities are 1. as thin and portable as possible 2. good battery life(~6-8 hours)  and 3. act as a basic stuff laptop.... So my journey began and I started shopping on ebay. I got my self a keyboard, a monitor, wifi dongle, some regulators and basic tools... I already had a raspberry pi model B and didnt want to spend more to get the new B+ model so I stayed with the B.

I am going to be doing extreme modifications to everything to make it thin and power efficient. I havnt bough a battery yet but I have a feeling that in the end it will be a 6000mah lipo that i have been looking for the past 2 weeks.

I wasnt planing on posting it anywhere but then I though "why the hell not" and made this post If people are interested then I will continue to update here otherwise it will be just my secret project

Please dont come to me saying its stupid and anything.. I have started the project and i am not willing to stop it. It might look stupid because the raspberry pi is not a powerful computer but it does the things i want this laptop to do and I am happy with it. Also I am not spending more than 90 euros on this.. thats my budget for this project at the moment.

Some of the parts have arrived but I haven't taken any photos yet so just enjoy some raspberry pi close ups for now
