Unless it's off-brand, most memory should be okay. Just remember to check the voltage; I made that mistake!

Microsoft bought 'Minecraft' because it's perfect for HoloLens
TerminalVelocity replied to Mbarton's topic in Tech News
Reasons I think Microsoft made a mistake here: 1. In the ad, the map spread itself along the table, floor, and couch. They would have to move mountains to make any old Minecraft map work seamlessly like that. 2. I don't see a way Minecraft could be good in third person like that. Even if someone is doing a big build, it would still be easier in first person. 3. The most common game mode, "survival," would be really awkward to use in combat, mining, and exploration. I'm not hating on you, I'm hating on Microsoft. -

Anyone else find channels using dubstep intros annoying?
TerminalVelocity replied to EvilWiffles's topic in Off Topic
Some of it is good, some of it make it seem like the channel is owned by an 8-year-old. (Sometimes true.) -

I just installed my GTX 970, and when it boots Ubuntu 14.10, I got a really wonky resolution. Went to the settings, can't find any fix. Tried a game, worse than my integrated graphics on my 4690k. Does anyone know how to get NVidia to work on Linux? Thanks.

I like more FOV 'cause you can see more.... but it can look a bit weird on small displays!

Anyone concerned about gripping a thing that can bend so easily and so far that the top and bottom can touch each other?

Worst Tech mistake you have ever made?

Got the wrong RAM voltage.... didn't directly break anything, but not getting the full value out of it. -
Yeah Blue Snowball.

Worst possible build on PCPartPicker?

Love the DORIT OS! And peripherals. -
Just want to see what you come up with! I don't care about price or anything, just something as ridiculous as possible!

I don't know much about the motherboard and memory, but I've learned from experience that i5's perform MUCH better overclocked. I highly recommend spending a bit more to get a k version. Even if you don't plan to overclock in the beginning, it will make overclocking an option in the future. If you do, the Hyper 212 Evo is a perfect cooler for light overclocking, and it will be worth the price.

If I had to add something, I would say that it may be worth the extra few bucks to get a 750W power supply. Other than that it looks really good.

Last night, I finished my first PC, and it booted up, displaying the BIOS. I added the side panels after that and this morning, the PC would not boot. Even the PSU is not turning on. I have a Corsair 450D, i5-4690k, Hyper 212 Evo, Asrock Z97 Pro4, G.SKILL Ripjaws (2x4GB) and a 750w semi-modular Rosewill SuperNOVA. (GPU still being shipped) One of the LED's on the power button on that case was not working, so it may just be that button. Is there a way I can use normal wires on the MOBO's power button pins to check it? If so, how can I do it safely? Is there a way that I can check to see if my PSU is working? Again, nothing will turn on. The PSU is plugged into a working outlet with a working cable, and the on switch is turned on. Even after the chassis power button is pressed, not even the PSU fans are spinning. Thank you.
