With your CPU, the 960 is the best choice. I strongly recommend you overclock it though, it will give you some more decent FPS in games.

Eh I played with a cheap Logy keyboard and mouse combo up to MG1, its really about the mouse's sensor quality.

Better. The FX-6300 is a horrible CPU. Also you spend too much money on a case for a budget build.

As for OP, you'll want a 960 or R9 285 as a 970/290X will be massively bottlenecked by your CPU.

You could also sacrifice performance for price and get an R9 290 instead.

You fucking mental? An 8350 bottlenecks a 970, let alone any new GPU that will come unto the market.

It seems like everyone on this forum loves to hate the GTX 960, but as you've noticed it's about equal to the R9 280/285 with the "winner" depending on the game. Based on the benchmarks out there I'm still inclined to say that a GTX 960 with 2 GB of VRAM is not a serious handicap at 1080p.

I don't think the R9 280 is a particularly hot card either, and how a video card responds to overclocking depends on much more than simply how hot it gets. Reliable delivery of a lot of power is also a major factor, so lower-power cards aren't automatically better. The "high-end" overclocking cards often add extra PCIe power connector pins, i.e an. 8-pin or two 6-pin connectors for some 960's.
