  1. ok i'm trying to find the right stand offs but sadly no idea which ones will have the out lock thread on them anyone found the exact ones seen at 8:26?
  2. I was bored so I decided to build a new "case"
  3. See my Profile image there, The screens were free the headset was not. I (much like Linus) would consider doing a review on the screens because they were free as a condition of me evaluating them and still not say anything good about them but that was that model of screen and not the brand of screen (By the way I could NEVER recommend people buy a Samsung workstation ( less than 19 inch) screen *shudders*). I however have not had the time to review the headset I payed for and find to be one of the best headsets I've ever used. (its a Jabra Evolve UC 65 stereo). Now as any sane person would realize there is no point me public calling out a company the size of Samsung based on my opinion without any evidence to back it up as that is asking for a Lawsuit. There have been many a video where Linus has said that "is it a great (insert product type here) no, But (justification here)" and that's being understanding of a companies direction and image not saying that there is no reason for things to be the way they are is just as bad as not saying that they are great for no reason. And before people assume that I simply am an ignorant fool I will say a few points below to keep in mind: I have never purchased any item of computer equipment based on a single reviewers opinion or a single spec-sheet (and neither should you) I have never purchased any item Linus has reviewed (mainly because most of the items he reviews are either above the international sweet point or are out of price range) Linus has more than one channel go look at channel super fun if you want something other than reviews and builds If there is a lot (over 100) of positive reviews about a piece of hardware or software and you can't find one negative one that's a sign of Bias being generated by the company producing the product. (through several different means) To those that are concerned that Linus has been overly biased in his opinion on a product at least state which product you believe his review of was biased and why calling hundreds of videos biased is not a fair call at some point you must have formed the opinion and the video that did that should be the one you give as an example Linus is nothing if not willing to go back and re-review products (as he has in the past) Edit:On a side note its 1:50am here so it looks like a lot of Aussies (like myself) are on and watch the channel it may be worth keeping this in mind and or looking at your international demographic as many companies that are available to sponsor you internationally might be worth approaching.
  4. The other question is what graphics Card should I look at as this will be a rack-mount system I will need to be able to remote in and use the system so will need a GPU that works over RDP at 4k, I'm assuming that a lot of network bandwidth ill be needed anybody had any experience with 4k over RDP? As for motherboard I'm thinking this type of board: ASRock X99 WS-E/10G LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard Specs: Server-Grade 10G LAN Chip Support Microsoft® Windows® Server 2012 R2 64-bit / Server 2012 64-bit / Server 2008 R2 64-bit Support ASRock Super Alloy - XXL Aluminum Alloy Heatsink - Premium 60A Power Choke - Premium Memory Alloy Choke - Ultra Dual-N MOSFET (UDM) - Nichicon 12K Platinum Caps - Sapphire Black PCB Supports Intel® Core™ i7 and Xeon® E5-1600/2600 v3 Processor Family for the LGA 2011-3 Socket, up to 18 Cores and 160W Digi Power, 12 Power Phase design Supports Quad Channel DDR4 3200+(OC), with maximum capacity up to 128GB Supports DDR4 UDIMM ECC*, RDIMM Memory (*ECC is supported with Intel® Xeon® processors.) 7 PCIe 3.0 x16, 4-Way SLI™ & 4-Way CrossFireX™ (x16) supported by PLX 8747 bridge 7.1 CH HD Audio with Content Protection (Realtek ALC1150 Audio Codec), Supports Purity Sound™ 2 & DTS Connect 2 x 10G LAN (Supported by Intel® X540), 2 x Gigabit LAN (Supported by Intel® I210AT), Intel® Quad LAN with Teaming Function 12 x SATA3, 1 x eSATA, 1 x SATA Express, 1 x M.2 (PCIe Gen2 x4 & SATA3), 1 x SATA DOM 8 x USB 3.0 (4 Front, 4 Rear), 8 USB 2.0 (4 Front, 4 Rear), 1 x USB DOM Supports ASRock Full Spike Protection, APP Shop, Full HD UEFI this board meets all the below: at least one 16x PCIE slot (must be able to support NVIDIA/Radon Graphics card of at least 2GB Vram (preferably able to support 8GB Vram) this board is supposed to be able to support 4 cards at 12 gig a card) Minimum 64GB ram capacity (the more the better) at least 8 CPU threads (18 cores is more than enough) 12 sata ports ( not sure if this has an onboard raid) dual 1000/100/10 Network ports (10 Gig would be wonderful but probably out of my price range dual 10g and dual 1g nics) USB 3.0 minimum 5 ports. onboard sound. the only thing I'm going to be disappointed it that it doesn't support the following any ways around the issue would be appreciated 1 PCI slot (old PCI wireless network router card) OR onboard wireless of router grade. onboard graphics OR iKVM and card available from dedicated IPMI Network port.
  5. Not that i have ever bought from this company but: http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/lian-li-pc-o8-window-aluminum-bk-e-atx-sp-atx-atx-no-psu/ yes its available.
  6. OAcesync to reply to your statement: This doesn't make a lot of sense Motherboards do not affect the CPU or GPU specs They can it depends on the motherboard in this case i have listed the GPU and CPU requirements as some of the features I am interested in are usually on server boards which limit CPU types in some cases to the point of only supporting quad core cpus but must run two for example. some Limit GPu due to compatibility issues here is an example where CPU types not matching the main-board can cause headaches (also CPU coolers are an issue if there is a narrow ILM on the board): Even Linus gets a different Mainboard in the end because it doesn't work And on an even simpler note AMD and Intel are Different sockets so yes Mainboards do effect the CPU.
  7. simple effective performance improvements: a) backup your hard drive and reinstall if you haven't in a couple years it helps believe it or not. ($0 cost) OR b ) replace your HDD with a SSD for your main operating system (which requires a reinstall) (about $60-$120 depending on what is available locally for you) Assuming you have the A88Xm-A listed here: https://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/A88XMA/specifications/ Upgrade your ram as you have (1x8) RAM ELIXIR/ G-Skill/ Crucial DDR-3 PC1600 (M2X8G64CB8HB5) from what I can gather (best to open the case and check) you board supports: "The Max. 64GB memory capacity can be supported with DIMMs of 16GB (or above)." It is possible (and cheap) to go to 32GB of ram which is way to much overkill for most games by buying another 3 sticks of the ram you are already using I would recommend a single additional stick in slot 3 which will allow dual channel ram usage. and effectively double your ram throughput. A new graphics card and PSU to suit (as suggested by others already) now to be clear option 1 a is free but 1b will see more performance improvements as this will take some of the load of the HDD (good for big slow files where an SSD is good for smaller faster access) option 2 will both increase available memory to 16GB and (not really but close enough) give you the ram throughput of 3200MHZ instead of 1600MHZ but only if you have one stick in single channel config in your system. and cost around $80 for under $200 you can implement both the above which will improve load times and play-ability of games that you can already play. it will not assist in getting your system to play newer games in any significant way as that is limited by your GPU/Graphics card (in your case). One last note: your onboard graphics is able to use your system ram as such you have not got 8GB of usable ram as the specs for your mainboard (below) point out up to 2GB is used by the onboard graphics card note also that if you get a compatible graphics card (assuming your APU is on the list they have online) you can use both the onboard and new card in a (lets say less than ideal) hybrid crossfire Maximum shared memory of 2048 MB AMD® Dual Graphics technology support *1
  8. OK I need a new motherboard case it will be going in is a antec 4ru case (EATX compatible) I'm looking for something that's not too expensive What the board will need: at least one 16x PCIE slot (must be able to support NVIDIA/Radon Graphics card of at least 2GB Vram (preferably able to support 8GB Vram)) Minimum 64GB ram capacity (the more the better) at least 8 CPU threads (single or dual CPU) 12 sata ports with onboard raid (or ability to take raid cards to have 2x5 port teams and 2 separate sata ports) dual 1000/100/10 Network ports (10 Gig would be wonderful but probably out of my price range) 1 PCI slot (old PCI wireless network router card) OR onboard wireless of router grade. onboard graphics OR iKVM and card available from dedicated IPMI Network port. USB 3.0 minimum 5 ports. onboard sound. what will this system be used for? 4k Video rendering (on occasion) Video trans-coding/compression Gaming (on occasion) Media/data serving (primary focus) Media playing (as smart PVR) Inbound Video stream recording (from a separate TV capture rig using network mapped storage) this video will be post compressed from raw TS streams. Blue ray playing or trans-code to video stream output. Data storage/serving (15TB current decentralized storage will be centralized in this unit) Running virtual machines for testing. will be used as a NAS/SAN for network storage of virtual HDD for systems (archival imaging of old data). with the above in mind I know this will not be a cheap build but I would like to get it in as cost effectively as possible with some future proofing integrated. I am In Australia to make matters worse so please keep in mind that anything suggested has to be available internationally or locally Thanks in advance to all that reply.
  9. Somebody point this man at a MFT (master file table) recovery tool that can do recover on the file tables of windows 10 (usually all that is deleted when an overwrite has occurred but i haven't attempted a windows 10 recovery myself so don't know what works). Don't go putting anything on the drive as the data is still there (in all likely hood) just the "map" to the files is lost the system MAY be able to be recovered with a file table recovery tool.
  10. one other thing to consider that no body else (from what I've read) has mentioned is what is his desktop refresh rate set to? i have a 4k monitor running on an intel HD4000 on-board graphics and that limits the frame rate physically to 24HZ over the HDMI link I'm using. Check its not something stupid like his screen resolution/refresh-rate is set low and the game is simply rendering at the maximum the display can show. its rare but does happen.
  11. just an FYI for those interested if its something like a dell or HP mini PC (custom form factor) there are GPU cards that give the on-board graphics more grunt (by adding a dedicated GPU on an expansion card) that are available from the manufacture and are designed to run with the low power PSU that are in them by default. (depends on model of the PC and stock levels of the "Graphics expansion cards")
  12. What motherboard do you have VictorB? and do the videocards run in SLI/crossfire? And Linus is there a link for the board you were using?
  13. Anybody had any experience with the cheap network cards?
