I wasn't sure I was convinced until I went to the website, but, Roccat will definitely be taking my money on this.

The keyboard takes what looks like a laptop battery, and makes your wired mouse a "wireless experience". It was made out of a massive aluminum block, giving you enough space for the mouse pad and palm rests. You can also mount your phone on it. I just hope it doesn't cost $200<.

UPDATE: Slick ended up looking at the Sova at E3. I'm even more convinced than I was before.

Ultimate_PIMP reacted to TechFan@ic in AMD Announces "From Scratch" Next Generation High-Performance x86 & ARM Cores
Chinese sources have indicated that AMD has been working on an all new from the ground-up high-performance core for two years now led by Jim Keller the engineer behind the original Athlon XP & Athlon 64.
This new architecture is supposedly going back to AMD's traditional multi-core approach with no modularity or resource sharing.
The new core is set to follow Excavator which will be released next year.

    Sources : 1 2 3

    UPDATE :
The Chinese sources unanimously referenced "wall street" as their source, conveniently an interview with AMD's CEO Rory Read has just been published on WSJ.

Interestingly enough AMD's (and Intel's) high performance cores are always designed for servers. Both Bulldozer & Piledriver were engineered specifically with servers in mind. So it seems AMD's CEO has inadvertently reaffirmed the rumors floating around.

UPDATE 2 : This has been officially confirmed and is no longer a rumor. AMD is working on a new "from scratch" x86 high performance core along with a "sister" ARM core dubbed K12.

Jim Keller talking about K12 and "next-gen" x86 core @ AMD's Core Innovation Summit May 2014.

You can watch the full one and a half hour event here.

Yeah what you're doing is smart. A stock i5 is still a king in games. (even though 4.2 is a pretty hefty overclock)

Yeah but the extra performance you get when pushing it to the wall is pretty insane. Those 10 minutes I was able to play Guild Wars with the overclock the fps was so buttery smooth. At stock clocks it's not buttery smooth. (With settings maxed)
I plan on upgrading my CPU every cycle anyway, so If I only get a year out of it then I'm satisfied.

Ultimate_PIMP reacted to TechFan@ic in Developers Publicly Criticze Nvidia's GameWorks Program on Twitter For Its "BlackBox" Nature.
This is somewhat of a follow-up to Extremetech's previous coverage of Nvidia's GameWorks program .

To those who don't know GameWorks is an Nvidia program by which developers are offered Nvidia optimized implementations for specific in-game effects through graphics libraries.
The effects include things like Tessellation, lighting & ambient occlusion. And these libraries are effectively "blackboxes" by which the developers are prohibited not only from optimizing these libraries for AMD or Intel GPUs but also from allowing any vendor other than Nvidia to implement its own optimizations or rendering techniques.

A number of prominent developers have criticized Nvidia's GameWorks program describing it as a "BlackBox" and some went as far as to call it "unusable" where developer control over the game's code has been stripped & hidden away from them and only given back under strict circumstances by which no modifications are allowed to benefit the hardware of any company except Nvidia.

The list of developers include Kostas Anagnostou the Senior graphics programmer at Radiant Worlds, John W Kloetzli, Jr a graphics programmer on the Civilization team at Firaxis Games, AngeloPesce a Rendering Technical Director & Johan Andersson the Technical Director on Frostbite at Electronic Arts.

anyways the title is a bit false its not really "on the fly" you see a really bad image but at least  but its much faster than before

So it's like prison...but the prisoners can do whatever they want. Why can't more games be like this? It really is a great system. If you want to cheat, then cheat, but you'll be playing with other cheaters. Hopefully more devs will start utilizing this in their games.

Personally, I think they are running the benchmarks wrong, Mantle it's not going to show big performance improvements on the GPU side, but on the CPU side. I want benchmarkers to try  using different CPUs and GPUs combinations, We want to see how much a Athlon X4 750k with a R7 260X can gain in performance. I want to see different CPUs both high end and low end combined with low end and high end GPUs.
