Apple makes some awesome stuff. Most people take a dislike to them because it's "cool" to dislike them, especially in this kind of community.

I run 8 Greens in RAID Z (I know it's not the most efficient number of drives for Z)
You can enable TLER on greens
You can have them not spin down/park at all
Speed is more than good enough for media storage and backups
 
Red's are the "NAS drive" but not everyone needs them.

A Plex and file server doesn't need great specs. If I were you I would spend the money on the drives and buy a used mobo and cpu combo off ebay or something.
 
I have a FreeNas server that is used for storage and media serving. It runs a general cross platform file server, Plex server, TeamSpeak server, Transmission server, Time Machine server and within a Windows VM a barely used Arma 3 and Terraria server. It runs an i7 860s, 16GB of RAM and rarely exceeds 14% CPU usage. In fact the stats show that on average 99.79% of the CPU stays inactive! RAM is a different story though. On average only 1.1GB of RAM is inactive, but thats due to how the ZFS filesystem works. Depending on what OS you run your results may vary.

Haha OK bare with me. It's very crude, I through it together in about 30 mins so I could get the server up and running.

Apple is not overpriced. If they made the same stuff they do now and just wrapped them pressed metal or injection molded cases, got rid of their in-store support and ditched any kind of warranty and the included/free software, then they do seem expensive. You might be paying for stuff you don't need or want, but at the end of the day it's included either way.

How did they manage to make a 4C to look even better? 

It did help for a few days, but then it started happening again.
About a week ago I did a fresh install of windows and the problem has only happened once since then, which is better than every other game.

You want Chameleon bootloader. It's themeable and does exactly what you want.

You buy a switch or a router 

The best router I have ever owned is an Apple AirPort Extreme. By far the most expensive... by far the best. An instant solid connection, but not the best range.
The problem is it doesn't have enough ports for you.
Personally I'd get the best router you can afford, regardless of the number of ports, then use a switch to adapt it.

Basically yes. Typically it's wifi with a built in switch.
If wifi is important to you then get the best wifi unit you can, then add extra ports with a switch if necessary.
You could even just buy a switch, then add wifi to it.

Absolute piece of shit. I idle at 70ish C. I have no case fans though.
