  1. So last Friday I went with my mom to buy her a new laptop. We found one with reasonable specs for her needs and brought it home to set it up. Upon booting, I noticed that the resolution of the display looked like something from 2006. Sadly, it wasn't something I could change in windows. It's stuck at what they in the store called a HD resolution, which turned out to be 1366 x 768. Today we brought it back to the store but they wouldn't take it back, because they couldn't sell a "used computer" because a new user wouldn't have the same setup experience. Ridiculous. So I thought of upgrading the monitor to something 1080p. Are there laptop screen standards, or are they proprietary? Here's a link for the laptop. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/model/NX.EFGEK.002 According to this site, the connector is a 30 pin LED socket. https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/Acer/EXTENSA~2510~SERIES/ If possible to get replace the screen, where would I buy it? I live in the EU btw. Thanks in advance, Marc
  2. Hello dear forum, I've got this old Dell PSU, I am currently trying to fish out of its prison. Do you guys think It'll work in a slightly more modern setup? (It was hooked up to a GTX280 and a mobo with DDR2) I'm planning to hook it up to a GTX580 I salvaged for a friend. - Marc
  3. I have almost same specs; 980 strix, i7 2600k, Sabertooth p67. Exactly the same issues!!
  4. I'm running a STRIX GTX 980 with stock clocked 2600k on a P67 motherboard through a Samsung SyncMaster T220 1680x1050 display.
  5. Thanks so much for the help and the in-depth answers! I really want to get a new monitor first - but if it means I'll get a big drop in fps, I think I'll follow your advice And many thanks to the rest of your guys for taking interest!
  6. Thanks for the quick replies! I'm thinking I'll get the ROG Swift first and then I'll upgrade the Motherboard and CPU later this year, when my economy hopefully allows it. I've heard that Broadwell does great but I kinda want to wait to see how Skylake performs.
  7. Dear forum, This is my first post. I've been watching Linus' videos for quite some time now with great excitement, and I'm getting more and more into upgrading my computer. I currently own an Asus Sabertooth P67 sporting an Intel Core I7 2600k, clocked at stock speeds with 8 gigs of ram. Recently my PSU broke and I had to replace it - so I bought a Seasonic 660W Platinum - which I'm kinda starting to regret by now, since I want to get into that whole overclocking / water cooling thing later this year. This Christmas I was gifted an Asus Strix GTX 980 to replace my Gigabyte GTX 580 which have resulted in a huge improvement in FPS overall. What baffles me is, even though my screen is an old Samsung with a native resolution of 1680 by 1050 I still sometimes get frame drops down to ~30 frames on extreme settings in Total War Rome II. I'm not totally sure if I should even be baffled by this, although googlin' has lead me to believe that a GTX 980 would be almost overkill for a 1080p resolution. My original plan was to get the Asus Rog Swift monitor, but now that I know that I wont be able to run my games on ultra settings, I'm not so certain anymore. And now for the actual question: Would It be overkill if I got an extra GTX 980? Would it even be reasonable? Should I save and upgrade my CPU / Motherboard when Skylake comes around later this year? What'd you guys do? Sincerely, Zerosource / Marc //Also I'm pretty sure I'm still getting the monitor anyways. I'm dead tired of working at 16:10 - 1050p..
