Dear forum,
This is my first post. I've been watching Linus' videos for quite some time now with great excitement, and I'm getting more and more into upgrading my computer.
I currently own an Asus Sabertooth P67 sporting an Intel Core I7 2600k, clocked at stock speeds with 8 gigs of ram.
Recently my PSU broke and I had to replace it - so I bought a Seasonic 660W Platinum - which I'm kinda starting to regret by now, since I want to get into that whole overclocking / water cooling thing later this year.
This Christmas I was gifted an Asus Strix GTX 980 to replace my Gigabyte GTX 580 which have resulted in a huge improvement in FPS overall.
What baffles me is, even though my screen is an old Samsung with a native resolution of 1680 by 1050 I still sometimes get frame drops down to ~30 frames on extreme settings in Total War Rome II.
I'm not totally sure if I should even be baffled by this, although googlin' has lead me to believe that a GTX 980 would be almost overkill for a 1080p resolution. My original plan was to get the Asus Rog Swift monitor,
but now that I know that I wont be able to run my games on ultra settings, I'm not so certain anymore.
And now for the actual question:
Would It be overkill if I got an extra GTX 980? Would it even be reasonable?
Should I save and upgrade my CPU / Motherboard when Skylake comes around later this year?
What'd you guys do?
Sincerely,
Zerosource / Marc
//Also I'm pretty sure I'm still getting the monitor anyways. I'm dead tired of working at 16:10 - 1050p..
