Ryan Leech got a reaction from Bazrat in I installed a 5600X in my X370 Taichi and it works
I went to Microcenter yesterday expecting to buy some SSDs but I ended up leaving with a 5600X after I discovered they were in stock. I had been hoping to upgrade to one ever since October so the dream had finally been realized. Of course my ASRock X370 Taichi wouldn't be receiving official support for the 5000 series but I wanted to keep using it as it has been a rock solid board ever since I bought it in 2017. It's amazing to think that I've kept the same board while upgrading across four generations of Ryzen (1300X>2600X>3500X>5600X).

I'll keep the rambling short. ASRock added unofficial support for the 5000 series in the unreleased 6.61 BIOS update. I wouldn't have found this BIOS if it weren't for the dedicated members of the X370 Taichi thread on overclock.net who continue to look for new ways to breath life into this board - they have even found ways to flash the X470 Taichi BIOS onto the X370. I simply installed the BIOS from a USB drive and it worked without a hitch. I then installed the 5600X and it posted immediately, much to my surprise. Members of overclock.net have reported that BIOS 6.61 limits their PCIe bandwidth to 8x but in my case I didn't notice any difference because I'm running two R9 290 Vapor-Xs in Crossfire.

A new build with classic components from MSI, Noctua and NZXT featuring the MSI P45 Platinum with a Q9550S paired with top-of-the-line 4GB 1150MHz DDR2 Reapers and the MSI GTX 465 Golden Edition, in an NZXT S340 Elite with Noctua fans. I decided it was time for a Copper/Brown/White theme and so I put some old hardware to use, including the beautiful P45 Platinum which I pulled from a scrap bin. This is the spiritual successor my original 3-Way SLI GTX 465 rig, but now focused on the ultimate GTX 465 Golden Edition from MSI. This card retains its original firmware and is still a GTX 465, not a GTX 470.

This intention of this build was to relive the GTX 465 experience in 2022 and play old titles that have been sitting in my library forever, such as Far Cry 1 and 2, Just Cause and other classics. It's admittedly tough going back to a 1GB Fermi card after so many years of using my R9 290, R9 380 underwater and an RX 480 in Chile. I hope this quick build log tickles the fancy of the longtime supporters of the original 3-Way SLI rig, namely, @TheSLSAMG@xTrekStorex @vinyldash303 @JoshM@flibberdipper and others whose names have changed since 2014.

I thought to myself: "Hey, I remember some guy on here building a triple SLI GTX465 setup some time ago. I should look for that thread. Oh, it was the same guy and he linked it in his post. What do you mean that was 7 years ago?!"

I'm glad you're still making these systems. The fact that this one looks better than a top of the line system from a few years ago is hilarious.
Cases with basements and PSUs with all-black cables have truly changed the landscape.

After years without an update, @DildorTheDecent brought to my attention that the photos from this build log had disappeared. I am proud to say that I restored this build log to its former glory and even added some photos of the system before its disassembly in May of 2017.

I have big plans for the ultimate GTX 465 rig on the horizon as I recently acquired the rarest of all GTX 465s. I had been looking for the MSI GTX 465 Twin Frozr Golden Edition for years, as they only produced 2000 units it was difficult to find one, but this year I found one and pounced. I moved to South America two years ago and as a result I'm away from most of my hardware so it might be next year when I get a chance to make a build around this golden beauty.

The top half of this build, gorgeous. And while there is charm to it, I only wish it was clear to manufacturers back in the day that bright yellow, blue, and purple ports on an otherwise neutrally colored board are really gaudy.

Still, with your parts selection, the build came out stunning despite all that.

I think the S340's days are numbered, I'm thinking about moving into an H710 later this year so the R9 290s can breath and I can have the 280mm Kraken up top. With all fans maxed in the S340 there's still hardly any airflow. The situation is equally as bad in my H500 that houses an overclocked FX-9590.

I used to use an S340 when I used a 5700XT - the case airflow was pitiful to say the least even with 2x140mm intake fans (for obvious reasons they didn't do much). Even with 2x120mm exhaust fans, airflow in that case is stifling.

I upgraded to the Corsair 275r Airflow, and while I don't like the front filter access (need to take front panel off which is held in by plastic pins which eventually will break), temperatures for the GPU decreased dramatically.

Thanks! I appreciate it when someone photos their build with a camera as opposed to a phone.

These cards are quite literally hot as hell - with both under full load my case becomes too hot to touch.
