Matakor got a reaction from NumLock21 in Is there a way to use a capture card to 'pass-through' the image to a monitor or window without capturing/streaming?
Unfortunately, I haven't updated my sig in a while. Those monitors were stolen, and I've since rreplaced them with the 21" version, which only has the two.

Cheaper may not be a terrible idea, however I have streamed some things in the past and have considered getting a capture card anyway. I will likely go for the capture card, regardless of the complexity.

Thanks for the notice. Elgato is claiming that their products work with it fine as far as gaming is concerned. Products like Netflix run through it seem to be hdcp enabled, but that makes sense. Games should be fine.

Well all that's well and good, but what I mean is... extra vRAM in and of itself is not a performance bonus. But there are times when it can be useful.

I can say with full certainty that a 8GB 980M can use all 8GB at full speed on a 256-bit memory bus at 5000MHz effective memory clock. A 980 with 7000MHz effective (or higher) memory clock is obviously much better. The 970's defect was an engineering problem, not that adding extra vRAM is indeed a problem.

Also, the way games are coming out these days, higher render resolutions (pixels) is not the only way to bump vRAM, and is in fact LESS of an issue regarding vRAM than a game with large texture sizes, like say... Titanfall. I could clock near 4GB vRAM usage on a single, non-overclocked 780M in Titanfall without slowdowns... but if I ran BF4 at 1080p with 200% resolution scale using ultra preset and hit 3-3.5GB of vRAM? I'd get what, 20fps?

What I mean is, GPU power and amount of vRAM aren't linked, even though there is a fairly linear increase in vRAM usage at higher resolutions. Either way, 8GB cards would do pretty well for 1080p solutions, especially if a user is running multiple screens and likes to play in windowed mode/borderless windowed or something to that effect.

Mostly at the moment just gaming. Also intend to use it as my Star Citizen machine after I snag a 980ti. Gonna be a wait for that.

After I get home, yup! I'll try to take a plethora of them, but the only cam I have is the one on my phone. It's not potato, but it's not much better.
