  1. I think you would have better luck getting two 4K displays. At least it would be much cheaper. That or a 32:9 display with at least 7040 pixels across.
  2. I’m surprised they don’t already work on both at the same time. That must mean they have unique codes which would require at least SOME programming and computer science knowledge to do. It wouldn’t be easy, assuming turning off the sleep option is out of the question.
  3. My current monitors are weird. The P4000 only has 1x HDMI and 3x DP. I have an HDMI>DVI and a DP>DVI cable that they're plugged into. They were always like that for some reason for as long as I can remember. They're not bad at all, but still, they're years overdue for an upgrade. I'd probably rty and see how 1x old 24" looks next to the ultrawide. I have room for them all, just have to adjust the height of the monitor stands on this massive desk. The specs along with the color accuracy is what sold me on it. 99.5% NTSC? That's perfect, even though I have a separate monitor for color, I'd say half of my work goes to broadcast.
  4. No, you're right. It looks like it has an HDMI, and 3x DP. The max resolution is something like 16k x 16k or according to this NVIDIA Data Sheet up 4x displays at 5k (5120 x 2880). So the actual monitor I ordered is used. If for any reason it turns out to be junk, I'll return it. I have a good warranty on it as well. If it turns out I love it, and need more, I'll get a 2nd one for Dual Ultra Wide.
  5. That's some helpful math. So I think I'll do either one of my old displays alongside, or a 2nd philips ultra wide. Just for fun. I have a ton of desk space, so that's not an issue, and as an editor, you can NEVER have enough horizontal space. That's not an issue, on this computer it has 2x Xeon E5-2620 v4s, and an NVIDIA Quadro P4000. You're right about the mismatch probably looking janky. I might be setting myself up for frustration by not just getting 2 from the start.
  6. Bigger toys and bigger equipment are more fun to rig out and set up.
  7. It looks like it is just general CG. On set they estimated how fast they should go, then the moved the camera and got the shot. Afterwards they rotoscoped out each person in front of the blades, then just threw them in. Probably made in a 3D program like Maya or something. Not sure about the echo effect, but definitely tons of motion blur.
  8. I just ordered one for my office computer. I do video editing on Avid, AE graphics, photoshop, etc. It's going to replace my current dual-1080p 24" monitors. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KFSMGJ8?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details I thought about also using my current 24" monitors alongside, is that viable or am I going to want a 2nd ultra wide? Will post pictures of my work battle station if people are interested.
  9. Are you sure the windforce GPU isn't too big? Another GPU that definitely fits with 3 DPs could easily work with some DP > HDMI adapters.
  10. His monitors are HDMI only. I do not know what PSU, but I it's probably something that can handle a low end GPU. Okay that will be good news to him. What do you recommend I get to make it all work? I just want to make it easy and work 100%. He has no problem paying for a GPU that has the ports for all 3 displays to make it work simply. Also it needs to fit!
  11. My coworker has a Dell XPS 8700 from 2015. It has a GT 720M but he's trying to hook up 3 monitors. I told him he needs a new GPU and I sent him a link to an XFX RX 570 but I'm unsure now what would work best. If it supports it or not. Just 3x 1080p monitors, that's all. He needs it ASAP. I'm worried his Dell won't support the XFX. Help me out, I don't want to look like an idiot. He only does web browsing, and word docs, etc. No gaming, or anything.
  12. I went to Lowes and bought my own piece of wood. Had it measured to exactly the size I wanted. If you want to make it yourself you'll stay well below $100. Just find good legs on Amazon or something. Measure how big you want. Talk to someone at Lowes/Home Depot and choose your wood. They'll cut it for you. Get veneer and paint. Veneer is easy with a clothing iron. Paint a couple coats. Drill in stands. ?????? Profit.
  13. Ikea Linnmon is your best friend.
  14. There's too many walls so the range becomes almost irrelevant. I suppose I'll just see if the better one works or not. If not, of well.
  15. Is there a way to fix it without going into the wiring? The house is pretty old from ~1960s and we just had faulty wiring fixed as well.
  16. Wow this is some interesting info guys. Since you two seem to be very informed on powerlines, etc. maybe one of you can help me with this. I got the one from best buy, I'm using it until the one @SpookyCitrus linked me arrives. It worked in minutes like advertised. Seemed great at first. Every couple minutes it drops significantly in speed, causing lag. It's definitely better than WiFi though. I was thinking it had to do with the outlets being on opposite sides of the house and something to do with phasing or something(I read somewhere about it) and yes, the outlets are on different sides of the breaker panel. I got this one. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/netgear-powerline-ac1200-gigabit-ethernet-adapter-2-pack-white/4002029.p?skuId=4002029 I don't know if it will make a difference.
  17. Looks great to me. I got the LCD version, not OLED. I already undevolted it and it works just fine. Who complains about laptop audio? Keyboard and touchpad are fine, one of the best touchpads IMO. Thanks for the review. I made a great choice, I feel better now.
  18. Yeah UPS and surge protector makes perfect sense. We actually had our comcast upgraded for free recently and it's definitely over 80Mpbs. Not MBps. I hate how they try to trick you. At any rate, you're right. I think I'll try the Best Buy one, it's pricier but I have 30 days anyway haha. Here I am thinking I knew it all about tech. You have earned yourself a solved. Thank you so much!
  19. That seems too good to be true. Will any outlet work or maybe it needs to be a GCFI? What about this one? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/tp-link-powerline-av500-nano-adapter-starter-kit-white/2080136.p?skuId=2080136 I could pick it up now and test it and return it tonight if it doesn't work. What I would do is plug it straight into my xbox and forget the Smart TV. Or is the extra ethernet port worth it for extra wifi?
  20. 5G is right around the corner. I'm on the opposite side of the house from the modem and my roommate doesn't want to move it. The latency and lag are horrible. It doesn't need to be more than 5GB a month if all I do is play online and not download anything. So I figured a mobile hotspot is the best option for now. So the question begs itself. Should I fork out a couple hundred for a good one now, or wait for the low-latency promising 5G?
  21. I'm getting the new version. It's greatly improved. Have you tested this laptop hands on? Apparently the VRM throttling is easily fixed by undervolting the cpu by 100mv. That's not much and easy to do and it would help with the cooling as well. Cooling isn't that big of a factor for most people that use it for work considering it will sit on a desk most of the time. Otherwise the overall build quality and design are top notch. Trackpad feels amazing. Screen is beautiful with tiny bezels. Great I/O. I've found nothing that looks and feels half as good. The pros greatly outweigh the few and albeit insignificant cons. I feel like most problems that people review about are due to user error and laptop abuse. They're not meant for gaming for 6 hours straight with the AC plugged in. That will always degrade a battery and yes, cause it to expand bulge overtime. The review you linked is for an older version and pretty irrelevant. He did seem to have weird issues with ordering which he's not at fault. Although buying from a reseller was a bad move. It could've been used and abused already or just a bad one, hence the screen issues. No manufacturing process is perfect. Resellers don't care. Bottom line: I disagree. You linked an old review for a different/older model. A rave and critical review can both be found for any device. I think I'll trust the YouTubers who used the model hands on and have significantly more ethos than you or the review you linked. No offence.
  22. Can you elaborate on that? This is the first I've heard of it having issues. I didn't buy anything yet.
  23. This is very important to me as my job will most likely be paying for this. The reason I need help is because I'm overwhelmed and the deals vary with models that seem to be the same but slightly differ in specs. I almost definitely want the Dell XPS 15. It's sleek, it's sexy, and I haven't found anything I like better. Try to change my mind. If not, which deal is best this cyber monday? I've looked at Amazon, Best Buy, and Dell.com. They seem to have cyber monday deals, but the specs vary around the $1600 range. What I want: Good CPU for editing, graphics, photoshop, 2D & 3D work Decent GPU for work, rendering, light gaming (GTX 1650 would be plenty) 1080p Display is fine. I have no need for 4k, but I'll take it. M.2 SSD at any size (I can just upgrade it myself if possible) 16GB Ram (8GB would be fine if it's a good deal) Under $1700 USD If it's under $1200 I would happily take one at 1080p, 8GB ram, small ssd, etc. Options: Dell claims to have Cyber Monday deals but I'm unsure if they were already on sale and now they're just labeling them as such Amazon has quite a few options but they seem to mostly consist of the models with 8th gen Intel i7 CPUs. I'm not opposed if the price is right. Best Buy does not appear to have what I want but that could change. Any other places I haven't checked? It's also an option to use Amex points for purchase. Any help would be much appreciated.
  24. That's a really good idea! I hadn't thought about that! I think you just helped me pick out a laptop!
