Stefan Payne got a reaction from EarthWormJM2 in This is the PC killer (Haha JK) - The Xbox Scarlett
    It wasn't.
    They said 120fps, not 4K...
There wasn't really much Information about it at all, on the Contrary.
All they sad was "GDDR6", Navi and Zen2. Nothing was really specified.

And then they threw the "100 times better than last gen" shit around...
    I'd rather wait and see...

Specs might look awesome now but remember, its more than a year until Launch!

    Bad idea..
Tomorrow is the announcement of NAVI. Should wait for that - and the reaction.

No, because Crossfire just does not work most of the times, with most games that come out this year.
There are a couple but not many...
And that's without the Scaling Problems.

So you don't want to use your stuff for the next 5-10 years and are happy if it survives 2 years...
You can ask someone going on holliday to Europe or the US to bring you a PSU...
Yes but I doubt the GTX 960 is much better than the IGP of the 2400G...
Yes, its that good that the nVidia 1030 is pointless/about the same as the AMD GPU.

    That sucks...
Maybe but a 1TB HDD is kinda pointless...
They make sense in 2TB wich usually is only 25% or so more than the 1TB or 4TB wich often is only around double the cost of 1TB...
And a HDD is easily added later. Its really easy to do, just buy it, mount it, format it and use it. Less than 5min...
And you can always buy one later...
If Corsair, get the CX, that is way better than the VS.
Even the 450W should be preferred!

Stefan Payne got a reaction from DezGalbie in i7 6700k still strong enough for another 4 years ?
No, you can't live for another 4 years as there are alreadygames on the Market that run badly on 4 COres and have issues with stuttering/min fps.

8 Cores Desktop CPUs are available since February 2017, so a little more than two years. And we already see increased core demands! Even though there was nothing for Desktop Sockets before that with more than 4 Cores (and no, 1366 is NOT a Desktop Socket -> low end SERVER!)

THAT is the reason why it didn't increase becuase there were no games to use it. That changed because of Playstation 4/XBoner and

So that is a very steep statement with all the facts we have right now.
Kinda the same claim that people made when Dual Core and later Quad Cores were introduced. Well, that's 15 ~years ago but can't you look at the past and learn from it?!
    You heard about Consoles?
    Playstation 5 and Upcoming XBox???
You know that those are said to come with 8 Cores??

You are wrong because false assumption.
The Core Demand already increased, @Ebony Falcon mentioned a good source that disproves your claim. Because we already have games/situations, where 4C/4T are absolutely not sufficient and even 4C/8T are struggling.

DX12 reduced the CPU demand and also is better multithreaded.
That also allowed the Game Developers to use the Power for new things such as Weather Simulation or other things...

    Yeah, exactly!
The Additional Cores are adopted by the Software at an insane pace. In just 2 years we have applications that benefit or want more than 4 Cores.

In another 2 years you can expect that they see that as minimum requirement...

    They are in Desktop/x86 Market...
There is already Vega 20 wich supports it, though only the Professionals seem to have that Enabled, so first PCie 4.0 Consumer GPU will be Navi.
There's also a ton of PCIe 4.0 SSDs announced and other stuff that might actually need it, @leadeater mentioned it, that it's server Networking for example...

    Yeah, great.
That sounds kinda like an excuse to not buy AMD...

Stefan Payne got a reaction from Ben17 in Need help with my PC's Power Supply.
Yes, because your PSU is total garbage.
    You can't "repair" it.
That's like trying to make an Opel Kapitän comply with modern Regulations. You just can't.

Just replace it with a somewhat good quality unit and don't bother with that piece of Pollution...

Stefan Payne got a reaction from Vejnemojnen in intel-9100f compatibility
    Why?!
What leads you exactly to that?
Why such a low cost Intel and such a crap Board??

What is the System for? What does it do?

    For Gaming:
    MSI B450I with Ryzen 1600.

    For Office:
ASROCK A300, wich requires SO-DIMMs though.
Either AThlon 200GE, 2200G, 2400G - whatever you feel like.

In that case you might want to look at the Ryzen 1600 or 2600 instead, wich is about the same price.
    And here something interesting:

And in all more interesting, modern Games, the Ryzen 5 is faster than the 7600. ANd its only the 1600, not even the X...
And in some Games there is even some kind of stuttering or other Problems.
Just look at Battlefield 5, where the i5-7600K gets min fps far under 60...
Yes, it needs a BIOS Update.
And there are other Options for the same Price.

Getting a 50€ Board also isn't the best Idea either.

That's not DC-DC, that's dual Mag Amp for the S12-3.
    The difference:
one is Analogue, the other digital.
One requires load, the other does not.

Stefan Payne got a reaction from hello_there_123 in S12iii 450w vs corsair cx 550
So you don't care if the Protection is lacking, the PSU not that great and might not even hold a candle to the competition, as long as the right label is on the PSU??

The S12-3 doesn't seem to have OCP on minor rails. That#s a major disadvantage.
And there aren't many good Reviews. The 500W Version in the Test I've seen had rather high ripple.

So either be quiet Pure Power 11 or not the Seasonic.

Stefan Payne got a reaction from raven_rampkin in What exactly happens if someone gets bad PSU?
    no...
For example the System Power 9 has a couple of Jap Caps in the 5VSB Circuit. But you'd want to get the rest in order anyway. And its not necessarily important either.

Stefan Payne got a reaction from Settlerteo in [OLD] PSU Tier List 3.0 (Legacy)
    Yes it is.
And do you know what protection is switching the PSU off??
And what is SCP? How was it implemented? What Protection does latch?
    THAT is what I meant...
No, it depends on the Wattage.

On a 500W you can probably omit it.
On a 1500W you must not.

Multi Rail = Breakers in your Box.
You usually don't need them either. You have them so that the cables in the wall don't catch fire.
And in some weird systems (*caugh* UK *caugh*) you have 32A lines/Breakers and need another one in the component.
    What is less dangerous?
    50A OCP or 150A OCP?
Especially when a shitty connection is enough to prevent "SCP" Detection...

As someone with some kind of electronics background that's pretty obvious to me. But also high current with low Voltage are even more dangerous than the same current with higher voltages because the Resistance of the Cable overall is far more with 12V than in 230VAC as we are talking about some milliohm that are needed for a short to be detected...

Thos are all pretty OK to decent PSU. Nothing wrong with them for the Price...

True, FX 8 Cores should be able to be gotten for 200-250€ with a decent quality Board - with everything you need, meaning Metal Shroud, PSU, Harddrive and so on.
CPU was sold off for ~50€ or so a couple of weeks ago in Germany...
Yeah, mostly because Am3+ was a consumer Plattform with Boards from 50-250€ (or more), while X58 was high end with Boards starting at around 150€ if you're lucky with many in the 200€ range.
With existing designs that were "just" updated for the new specification.

So its a bit unfair to compare 100€ COmponents (NEW) with 300-900€ ones...

    Look at the old List.
It looks rather old, but it seems somewhat OKish, Ripple over 60mV so not great (According to "Sources" that increases failure rates in Mining enviroments)....
Besides that, it doesn't look tooo bad...

Mine don't for the most part. The Dark Power P8 has an 8pin and the Delta DPS-500QB but neither Bitfenix, Corsair, Cougar, Be Quiet Pure Power 10 have an 8pin. They have a P4+4...

And that is the Misleading part...
Because the Connector he has is what the PSU Manufacturer call, as said, "P4-4". It looks exactly like that.

And that he only saw one 4pin might be because:
    https://m.bonanza.mx/items/like/670081328

    @Abhi1401
You see the Picture on the Corsair Site? That looks exactly like the Pic of the CPU Connector(s) you posted.
We are _NOT_ talking about an average "no-name" PSU no more, we are talking about a decent quality OEM unit made by one of the best and biggest manufacturers...
I have found some (small) Pictures of the Insides.

And this unit is based on a so called LLC-Resonant Topology with DC-DC. So it is very modern. And decent quality.
The Only issue is that we do not know the quality of the output voltages...

Besides that, its a pretty good quality unit, about as good or better as for example a Corsair CX...
