  1. How about neither and wait until next week? As for the GPU: You should have something like VEGA56 or so for 4K at least... I 'm looking into a 4k HDR Screen as well. Haven't found a good deal at under 400€ or so. The good ones are a bit more expensive. So why not get a new GPU first??
  2. Depends on the price situation locally. At what prices can you grab the CPU, how much more is the 2700x?? Over here 2700x is back to ~300€, the 2600x is at 183/228€ (depending on the Cooler). But either way, in around 4 Weeks, Zen2 is announced...
  3. We don't know what happens in the background and is eating the CPU Power. But you do know that Origins and Odyssey run some simulation stuff on the CPU?? Something like Weather Simulation and other stuff... That takes its toll. A real question: Are you a developer and have looked at what the game does or how can you come to the conclusion that its "bad optimizations"??? That's the case if the CPU runs at 25% or lower, GPU at 50% and you have shit fps... Back in my days it was totally normal that some games eat Hardware for breakfast and couldn't be played well with anything that was on the market at the time. It took a couple of years for it to run well.
  4. It ran perfectly fine on my system - wich at the time had a Radeon HD7970 inside. Can't remember much FPS drops IIRC. Might be a case of a smaller game doing some stuff others don't usually do and lack of care from the GPU Manufacturers.
  5. No, Epic Game Store will have a bigger effect. As well as other proprietary shit. PC is (and should be) a free and open plattform. WHen you force someone to do something they don't want to, that's something many people don't want! Why do I have to have Uplay for Ubi Games? Origin for EA Games Blizzard Launcher for Blizzard Games EGS for some other Games + the Bullshit War between EGS and Steam... And, of course, Steam... As well as all the other Proprietary shit, Crashes and bad drivers (look for Wildlands and nVidia Turing). While there is still a big percentage that don't want no console, there is an equally large amount of people that don't like what is happening to the PC Gaming Market... THAT will move people towards other Options...
  6. Yeah, Problem is: The PSU he has is already really really good. Here is a Review of it. Of course its not perfect and fails Holdup tests, as do most of the cheaper units, but Ripple is pretty good, Efficiency is pretty bad but its a cheaper unit, so to be expected. Voltage regulation is OK - starts at 12.12V and drops to 11,9V at full load. Crossloads are of no importance as the unit already has independant voltage regulation for all rails via buck converter (aka DC-DC). Fan RPM is on the high side (same regions as the Corsair CX and TX in idle). In the end the only issue the Antec VPF-650W has is the fan noise. And that's about it. Electronically its a fine unit. One of the best 80plus Bronze units you could buy at the time. Wich makes it not easy to recommend a unit as he already has a really really good (but loud) unit.
  7. Yes, 450W is enough for most mid range Systems. You need more if we talk about High end GPUs, something like VEGA, x80ti and so on. And with VEGA you can tune it so it runs with 400W as well. But that's not the point, here what I think makes sense from a pretty good Antec PSU: https://www.adm.hr/product.asp?product=napajanje-thermaltake-750w-toughpower-grand-rgb-ps-tpg-0750fpcgeu-r&code=101.100.113 https://www.adm.hr/product.asp?product=napajanje-corsair-550w-rm550x-2018-cp-9020177-eu&code=101.200.059 https://www.adm.hr/product.asp?product=napajanje-fortron-hydro-g-650w-gold-modularno&code=101.200.087 I didn't care about Wattage, Price or so. I only looked at PSU that are better than your Antec VPF.
  8. That's not a review, that's bullshit! pls ignore it. For a PSU Review you need: a Load, electronic if possible an osciloscope Good Tests have a Power Source, somewhat decent electronics load... I've yet to see a decent Test, so I don't know about the voltage and so on. But I do know how it looks and that's something like this: https://prohardver.hu/tema/re_fsp_raider_ii_tapok_tesztje/hsz_1-50.html That has nothing to do with Aurum at all.
  9. You can argue about that if it is worse or not. It certainly is not an upgrade. At best its a sidegrade. OK, so you need a new PSU for your brother?? I never said anything about Raider And no, its not how you describe it. Actually the Oriinal Raider is the variant based on the Aurum S, the Raider 2 is completely different. At least has DC-DC, so its not that bad. But still not something I'd get. So the real question is: What do you want: A better PSU or a PSU for your Brother??
  10. The 80plus Rating is irrelevant. Though you don't find many awesome 80plus Bronze (and Silver) PSU these days because they aren't much cheaper to make than entry level 80plus Gold units. So the real good stuff is at 80plus Gold. For FSP, the Hydro GE must be ignored, its not a good unit. What's wrong with the VPF-650W?? What I found looks pretty neat: https://www.islabit.com/53326/review-fuente-de-alimentacion-antec-vpf650.html/4 I don't see a reason to replace it. Especially with a unit that's actually worse or not really better. Between the things you have, I'd stay stick with your Antec for now. 3 Years is not a real problem. Or do you have any Problems with the PSU? If so, what's it?? The ones you showed us so far are worse than what you got!
  11. And if you have 5mV Ripple or 500mV is irrelevant as well. Its the Quality of the PSU that counts. The Wattage is indeed less relevant. Especially if we are talking about "normal" Systems with "normal" CPUs and there we don't have no 200W TDP for the CPU or 300W TDP for the GPU. That's high end regions. Yes, you do! Because EVGA for example is an "A-Brand" and you didn't specify any model, you just threw around a Wattage and get a "quality brand unit" - like EVGA! But also Thermaltake, Seasonic and basically everyone. Corsair and be quiet less so. Even an "A-Brand" has some group regulated stuff with those shitty 8pin protection IC -> no OCP on any rail, often no UVP on 12V. And OTP you also don't find on every unit... And you wouldn't want that in a PC! ...wich is why I said that Quality of the PSU is relevant and not the wattage... Would you rather have a ~600W "A-Brand" PSU that regulates the 12V and 5V together, doesn't come with OTP, UVP on 12V, OCP on any rail?? Would you rather pay 65€ for that because its "an A-Brand" and fully modular? Or would you rather get a Bitfenix Formula with 450W for the same price? or a 400W be quiet Pure Power 11 400W for 15€ less or the 500W for 7€ less... I'd always take the Formula or Pure Power any second and not hte "A-Brand" with Japanese Caps that has shitty voltage regulation due to Group Regulation and And what's the Test System?! It looks like its: "Our test system is the usual GPU bench that includes a Core i9-9900K clocked at 5 GHz with 32GB of DDR4-3200 memory..." They don't seem to mention that in the Video but on their Website they mentioned it. And even with that, a good PSU is rated at 100% load at rather high Ambient temperatures. With a normal, non overclocked system, you can subtract 100-150W from that as that CPU can be up to 250W or even more... With that said: I modded my Bitfenix Formula 450W (bridged the 3rd and 4th Rail so that I have two for PCIe) and used THAT with a VEGA64. And no Problemo. Why should it? No, because YOU are basically recommending Thermaltake Smart TR2-S, Smart RGB, EVGA W1, EVGA N1, W1, Seasonic S12II-Bronze and other buttom of the Barrel "A-Brand" shit nobody should even think about. That is why you don't just throw around a wattage and brands. Especially not the x00W ones as they more often house shit. Be quiet are the only ones out of my head that have good x00W units. And its getting worse with anything between the x00W and the x50W. Here and there there are OK ones, others are just shit... That depends on the Situation and so on. You just generalized and threw around Wattage and "go for a Brand Product", not seeing that the "Brand products" can be shit as well I'm telling you to stop throwing around "go for xx Wattage for "A-Brand". That's just bullshit and means you just recommended an EVGA N1-750W instead of a qualtiy 450W like Corsair CX, bitfenix Formula, or 400W be quiet System 9 or Pure Power 11. That was my point. That is why the Tier List made by @LukeSavenije, @LienusLateTips exist. Because not all PSU are equal. Because "Named Brands" sell shit or even utter garbage.
  12. Its a bit of both. Its tickering that is rather annoying and caused many complaints. I have a similar Hong Hua Fan in a Chieftec Power Smart (750W), HA1425M12S-Z, 12V/0,36A... Fan also spins with only 350rpm, if it had a good motor (or motor IC), I'd say its a silent insider tipp... ...and is overall the better unit by a long shot... Agreed.
  13. Its still kinda GCN but heavily modified. IIRC the last iteration of GCN. The issues with GCN are mostly frontend a bit caching and also Bandwith... If they can reduce the bandwith that the Chip needs to perform well and increase the efficiency it shouldn't be a problem to have something in the area of the 2080.
  14. They rely on selling nVidia Graphics cards. the most. If they have problems here, that will spread out to other areas. Their Power Supplys are not worth and don't offer much more than the Original Manufacturer, if at all. Especially since they don't use Multi Rail for any recent unit... Yeah and if something else breaks and has a mediocre short?! You don't seem to realize what low resistances are needed to switch off. Even a 1 Ohm Resistance on 12V only equals 12Ampere. And 1 Ohm is pretty darn low. So your claim that "ah, OCP isn't needed" is just not true. See above. Or for example here: Another Example of what could happen with a Single Rail PSU! The Solution for that is multiple OCP Channels - just like in your breaker box... a) nobody talks about that b) RMi has OCP c) we're talking about an EVGA Unit. Something like this: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/evga-supernova-650-g3-psu,5533-6.html So what we see here: a) rather high OCP b) 12V @ 11.069V c)140% OPP with 12V already dropping quite low.
  15. Yes, for now, when they have money. You know how they will treat people down the road, in 5, 10 Years?! No, you don't! 10 Years ago, Antec and Enermax were 2 big, strong players. Today they are struggling. 10 Years ago, PC Power and Cooling existed as their own Company, now they're a label. 10 Years ago, Tagan still made some PSU. Today they are defunct. And EVGA is mostly reliant on nVidia as well...
  16. OCP is important -> https://www.overclock.net/forum/31-power-supplies/944707-why-single-rail-not-better-than-multi-rail.html As is OTP, not only can the fan fail, it can get blocked by foreign objects like cables and such. Total bullshit... You know why there are Fuses in the Fusebox or Breakers in the Breakerbox?? You're basically saying that the Breakers are not needed and you're totally fine with the 63A or whatever comes into your house So the higher the Wattage, the more you need multiple OCP Channels aka Multi Rail. And with 850W, the OCP Trip Point in some cases is at 100A. https://www.computerbase.de/2019-04/850-watt-netzteile-test-asus-gigabyte-corsair/3/#abschnitt_schutzschaltungen 100A ain't no joke! So do others. And how do you know they last? ORLY?! Then lets look at the amazing Warranty Terms from them. https://www.evga.com/warranty/power-supplies/ Don't look that amazing to me tbh. But that's the price you pay for rediculously long Warranty Terms. You pay for it with 20 pages warranty terms. Also, what you tend to forget is something like that: So no warranty for you, your PSU was not "normally" used!! At least they grant a transferrable warranty - of up to 3 years.
  17. What would you lose if you wait?! And see how Ryzen 3000 is?? At least you know that both have their cards on the table and don't waste money on something that might reduced in price... If you need it to "just work": Ryzen CPU support ECC Memory on ASUS, maybe Gigabyte and ASROCK Motherboards. And what PSU do you have right now? Maker? Model? rough Age??
  18. Its not nice to come into someone else's thread about your stuff... What Model is that? Without that its impossible to say. a) that's a shitty system with some weird setup b) next month Ryzen 3000 is released. Why not wait for that? Especially since what we know about that Chip looks pretty neat... Depending on the PSU, there might be...
  19. GSYNC is dead, get a Freesync Screen instead. And why do you want to change?? What's the goal?
  20. Yeah, that's a big problem as the Blower Cards aren't great... I don't know, the Card/Chip is pretty nice but the Heatsink...
  21. Its wrong to generalize on Wattage because of a single, really low end 620W PSU. I proven you wrong with my two 7970GHz/280X. Your PSU is made by Seasonc, based on the S12II-Bronze basis, wich was modified for Antec and got a better Protection IC but that doesn't really make it much better as voltage regulation is pretty bad as well: https://www.computerbase.de/2017-07/cooler-master-cougar-xfx-zalman-netzteil-test/3/#abschnitt_spannungsregulation XFX (zweite Revision) is the Seasonic S12II Bronze variant...
  22. Show him that there was once a card from AMD that had 8pin PCIe on the PCB but came with 2x6pin instead (though that was the old PCB)... And the 7970 also had 2x8pin on the PCB and came with 6+8., TDP or so was at the lower 200W (somewhere around 220W or so)...
  23. Wattage is irrelevant, quality is what counts! There are 450W that are awesome and I'd take any day over any 600W PSU. And there are a ton of not good 600W PSU that don't deserve to be purchased by anyone. "600W EVGA" isn't necessarly much better than the one you have right now. So pls get a better one. You don't need a gazillion Watt. You need a quality PSU! In that case, be quiet Pure Power 10, 400 or 500W, Bitfenix Formula.
  24. Can someone send Bullzoid this Link: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-hd-7950.c307 Maybe this: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-hd-7970-ghz-edition.c365
  25. An old thing that might or might not be discontinued or soon. Here in Germany the 600W seems to be available but at ~110€ or so. FOr that I can get some Platinum. And way better units at similar wattages are way cheaper. Yeah, they are rather small. I don't think about them too much either. But some are decent, some are *ARGH*. Like the GreenME... Its a pretty neat plattform. Has Quad Rail DC-DC pretty neat Capacitors. And the 550W comes with one PCIe (750W has two)... Yeah... Yes, seen them in a couple of threads in the GPU Part of this Forum. Just had one today... The great thing about VEGA is that it is what you make of it and want it to be. You can do either. Push it to 400W and compete with 1080-1080ti. Push it to 200W and compete with lower end cards. Its up to you. Normally shouldn't. At least if you have a somewhat decent PSU...
