  1. There isn't. You can't hold three things with two hands, compromise!!
  2. Ok then I will get a refurbished or barebones T420. Any suggestions for that? Maybe suggestions for the chromebook for my father?
  3. You can totally get Chromebooks around the 150 dollar mark, I've seen em. Just don't know which to get.
  4. My dad and I's laptops broke recently. and I would like recommendations for good products within our restrictions. I think a Chromebook would be best for my Dad with his workload. As long as it has good build quality and a good battery it's all good. It needs to be under 150. (usd) Me on the other hand, I had a T420 with a bunch of high end stuff. I would like to reuse the parts, no more duct table and super glue for the old boy, gotta retire it. If you could find a cheap barebones one, I can provide the battery harddrives, cpu, ram, and I guess anything in my mobo that still works. Refurbished is also an option I just don't feel like dealing with used. Also under 150 for me. If a Chromebook is nessessary... As long as it can run league.
  5. The T420 is gen 2, correct. I am using the adapter which is inside the cardboard box with the fan, which I have posted both above.
  6. The laptop is mostly held together by tape and superglue, which is effecting the cooler, the battery is dying, and my cpu is falling behind on some rendering tasks.
  7. Really depends on the card. If you are using something high end like a 980 or a 390 it is going to bottleneck. Anything with lower bandwith should not be a problem, currently I use a HD 6950 that I had laying around. Here is the exact adapter I use. Mine has that as well. I don't really know if it works or not. I'll try it out sometime. EDIT: upon closer examination of the "express card thing under it" It looks different and will probably not work. If any laptop has (an unused) mini pcie, expresscard, a decent cooler, and supports newer generation cpus. Holler at me.
  8. I upgraded my current thinkpad to a i7-2720qm. Do the new generations support expresscard? Yes. Also, here are some pictures in case you are curious,
  9. I currently use a lenovo T420, which works with my desktop adapter. All I need is expresscard. Sorry bro working on it.
  10. Pretty low. I'd say under 400 USD. As long as it has the I.O and chipset I need, I can upgrade the internals. I have a desktop graphics adapter, so no gpu is needed. EDIT: I am open to buying used, I just need to know laptops that would work with my needs. Too expensive.
  11. I plan on upgrading the laptop a bunch. I need it to have good cooling for a quad core, an additional Mini-pice slot for my SSD, and an expresscard adapter for my homemade desktop graphics adapter. The more I.O. the better, and I can cheap out on some stuff like Intel graphics and a 720p screen. Is barebones cheaper? Low price is good! I do not know if skylake is an option, but I would at least want Haswell. I know this is hard because expresscard is pretty outdated. I haven't had much luck myself and you guys always come in handy.
  12. I am trying to hook my laptop up to an external video card through pcie adapter. The card is an amd 6950. Pic included. I keep getting video_dxgkernl_fatal_error (I have windows 10) after some quick research I was brought to a windows page where, fix it, would disable rtpm om intel driver. After doing so device manager said all it needed to do was restart the laptop and it would be all good. But I am still getting the error. By disconnecting the adapter on boot I can use the laptop, what do?
  13. Yes! my cousins and I used to play this all the time.
  14. Even if it was I doubt it would bottleneck. I am running a quad core i7-2720qm. Pretty decent processor.
  15. Could be hardware, probably the card more likely.
  16. The site states that you can't get really high end stuff do to bandwidth problems. Like 390s, 980s, etc. Probably because of the issue just stated. Does my card fall under that category? if not, then must be cooling or just the card or adapter is faulty.
  17. My friend has the same laptop with a 750, it worked fine with him. Is that part replaceable? I'll start with cooling then.
  18. Yeah I do. That's what I use. The problem is the low fps. Yep, first thing I did after I got it working,
  19. Yes. Yes, that is how I get the computer to switch displays.
