  1. HP dv6 laptop with "switchable" graphics. Intel i7 2630QM w/ HD3000 Radeon HD6770M I suppose it could have been an okay performing laptop for its time. However, drivers were never released for the switchable graphics. Because of this, without 3rd party drivers, you were stuck on Intel's integrated graphics chip. Someone, perhaps a group, going by "Leshcat" began releasing 3rd party switchable graphics drivers for the HP switchable graphics featured laptops as HP themselves neglected to do so. Sure, installing these 3rd party drivers does not require an IQ of 180, but I can definitely see an inexperienced person screwing up big time. To this day, I believe HP have yet to release functional drivers for the switchable graphics. I feel bad for those who expected more out of it than I did. I ended up with a literal pain in the back from lugging this heavy sub-par laptop around campus. Poor battery life (w/ performance and gross weight taken into account). Next to no driver updates/support. The dedicated display drivers were not alone. Poor heat dissipation design. I don't really bother with using it on my lap because of its weight anyway. BIOS lacking of bare-essentials. In the end, pretty disappointing. Oh well.
  2. That was my guess. I'm not certain, but I believe I was told to initialize my command with "OK, Google". I feel played... With Google's budget, I would at least expect the voice of the advertiser to be more pleasing.
  3. Greetings, I have been following LTT and NCIX on Youtube for a few years now, but I am completely new to the LTT forums. Something very interesting just happened while I was looking up a javadoc on Google. It's either an extremely intrusive advertisement campaign or my first experience with auditory hallucinations. I couldn't think of a better place to get input on the matter than here, on the linustechtips forums. Enough rambling. I was doing some work and had to refer to a javadoc for a certain constructor. Rather than using the dust-gathering Oracle bookmark, I typed in the Java lib name into the address bar and hit enter. While on Google's results page, I happened to inhale a bit of saliva (my tonsils were removed when I was younger) and coughed a couple of times, three at most. Immediately after coughing, an ad for cough syrup begin playing in my ear buds (plugged into laptop w/ inline microphone). I'm not going to lie - it startled me good. I was using Google Chrome with adblock. I only had 3 tabs open at the time, which I eye-scanned and concluded to be ad-free. My initial thought: It must have come in an update related to the (sort of) recent "OK, Google" addition to Google Chrome. I Googled my hypothesis, and even "Binged" it, for good measure. Found nothing. Have anyone experienced anything remotely similar? I got very little rest last night because of heavy workload. I suppose hallucinations wouldn't be completely out of the question, but I highly doubt it. Then again, I'm not a doctor ^^
