  1. Love that case - saw an amazing-looking PCPP build with the silver version a while back. Can't wait to see what you'll do with it!

    What is this?

I was investigating what appears to be a dead DSL wall jack, and I saw this in the external wire that connects the box to the wall jack: (Sorry for the terrible quality, I'll take better pictures tomorrow, but I wanted to get this out tonight) It appears that the cable has been spliced together at some point in the past. On further inspection, I noticed some corrosion on the wires around the spot. I'm figuring this is the source of my problem right now and that if I could peel the wires back a bit more, cut the old part, and re-connect them, it might be my best chance at fixing the problem myself. However, I'm not sure exactly how this work and what these connectors are. Edit: after a bit more research, I found the connectors to be phone wire splice connectors. If I bought a couple of them, do you have any helpful hints?
  3. The picture is of the msi X99A sli plus, the board the OP is using is the ASUS X99 Deluxe, which he painted black.
  4. I'd say second as well; it looks like it was made to go with it.
  5. Definitely. It most likely not at all worth an upgrade, unless you are in some very specific usage cases.
  6. Looks good to me, although there are faster and higher cpapacity SSD's if you want to go for an even $2000. Just copy and paste the BBcode markup from the PCPP page. Just out of curiosity, do you already have the case, or just really like it? It's just a pretty specific and unusual choice.
  7. I would get a power supply at least 600W and probably 750W or possibly higher depending on your plans for the future. I highly recommend NOT getting a CX series psu, especially in a build of this caliber; they are made with low-quality components and are known to be unreliable. Also, I think in an almost $2000 build, it's time to ditch the 212 evo. A high performance air cooler or AIO liquid cooler would do nicely. You could save some money on the motherboard and gpu if you want to keep costs down.
