  1. Do I need to get a USB that has AES256 encryption?
  2. Hey all, I need some help and I don't have the time to research USB/HDD data encryption for sensitive data, but I need to have multiple copies of sensitive data that is portable. The encryption needs to be nearly unbreakable. Thanks for the advice. Regards, Ssk
  3. Actually, I'm just an idiot. haha its 250 megabits...
  4. Yea, that's my bad. It should be 250MB/s.
  5. Hello everyone, Was finally able to upgrade my internet from a crappy AT&T (25Mbps down, 2Mbps up) to the lightning fast Comcast (250Mbps down, 25Mbps up)! I am not super familiar with networking, but it is my understanding that the 1 gigabit Ethernet cord maxes out at ~100 megabytes/second. If I purchase a PCIe gigabit Ethernet addon card, will I be able to aggregate the two separate Ethernet connections to improve my download speed? ***Original post should have been MB instead of mb, sorry for the confusion** Thanks for your time! - Joe
  6. Good morning everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my Pentium G3258 (OC to 4.4 GHz). My current parts are listed below. I was thinking of upgrading to either an Intel Xeon e3 1231v3 or Intel i7 4790k. I understand that their is a decent price difference between the two. But I am stuck on determining whether the price difference is worth it... Any suggestions/comments will be very much appreciated. Current Use - Data mining via MS SQL Server Express (large data sets, i.e. 23 million rows) - Visual Studio C# Programming * Both uses scenarios are currently for exploratory use Goal - Increase the responsiveness of queries to allow for more complex queries across multiple databases. - Increase responsiveness of Visual Studio Current Components Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler Asus Z87-A (NFC Express Edition) ATX LGA1150 Motherboard Kingston HyperX Fury Red 8GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB FTW ACX Video Card Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qfgH6h Thank you for your time! - Joe
  7. I need some help finding a BA laptop. First off, the budget is non-existent. Its going to be a work laptop running custom data mining applications using some GPU acceleration. Essentially serving as a workstation when away from the office. Does anyone have some suggestions on laptops that fit this criteria and are not unreasonably bulky? Thanks for the advice in advance. -Joe
  8. News: On August 3rd, the FDA approved the first 3D printed medication, SPRITAM® (levetiracetam)1,2 for the treatment of various seizures disorders. The medication was designed to rapidly dissolve following a sip of water. However, it was recently taken a step further when researchers at Wake Forest developed an algorithm to print the same medication at different doses. They successfully printed a medication at 5 different doses between 124 and 373mg with minimal variability.3,4 Rationale: Historically, the downside to oral or tablet/capsule medication has been their ability to modify a patients dose. For example, a patient taking a high blood pressure medication at 10 milligrams (mg), is still presenting with high blood pressure. A clinician would be inclined to increase the patients dose. However, the medication may only be available in 5, 10, 20, and 40mg. If I wanted to increase a patients dose to 15mg, I would require the patient to take a 5mg and 10mg or a 10mg and half a 10mg. This is where this application could fill a void, and 3D print a 15mg tablet. A much more complicated dosing medication is warfarin (a blood thinner), where a typical regimen may be 5mg on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and 7.5mg on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday for a weekly total dose of 45mg. This confusion could be avoided by 3D printing a dose of 6.42mg for the same result. The application of custom doses extends to many other applications, however, these are just a couple. 9. Awesome, thanks for all the advice everyone! Seems to working as it was before after running all of the programs you recommended above.
  10. Why yes, I will be a nice roommate and let you watch a video for class on my pc.... Come home to find programs installed, and ads spamming throughout my browser with general surfing. Does anyone have suggestions for the best way to clean this mess up? -Joe P.S. Not used to viruses, been using a mac for 4 years
  11. Disclaimer: I see there is one poll with a yes or no question to whether Linus should give away his personal rig. However, sometimes questions are not as simple as "yes or no". After watching all of Linus's personal rig update videos, I can not help but say I would feel weird owning his personal computer. Hypothetically speaking, if I were to win his computer, I would either donate it back to Linus or donate it to some greater cause. (i.e. a young gamer with a terminal illness) However, I was wondering what everyone would do if they won Linus's personal rig. Edit: If other, explain below what you would do.
