Hi hardware_guy
I have come accross your post about the Kingston HyperX Cloud II headset and it's compatibility with the PS3. I am in te market for a PS3 headset and I am considering the Gold Wireless Headset and the Kingston HyperX Cloud II. According to reviews the HyperX has better sound. I want to use the headset on PC and PS3 and possibly the PS4 in the future. (I am not concerned about the mic not working on PS3.)
According to your post the HyperX does not work well with the PS3. Is it possible that the headset will work using the PS3 RCA (red/white) cable from the PS3 connected to one of these (Stereo Splitter-3.5mm Jack to 2-RCA Jacks Audio Adapter)? https://www.amazon.com/Manhattan-inches-Stereo-Splitter-3-5mm-Adapter/dp/B0009JFF7A/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1465514261&sr=8-3&keywords=rca+3.5mm+female&tag=rnwff-20
Then use the 3.50mm jack from the headset and plug it into the adapter?
Appreciate your feedback.
Regards

That adapter will only work for the sound from the console to the headphones, it will not do anything with the microphone. The red and white wire are both a one channel audio track (so together stereo) which does not carry any audio back.
The PS3 console only works with USB microphones too. I have one of those adapters which I got with my Turtle Beach headset, but the headset itself had a 3.5mm jack and also a USB jack. The 3.5mm was for game sound and the USB jack was for my microphone.
