I tried, even got a CM Evo 212, it BSOD'd when it was doing some photo editing so i pulled it back to 4.1ghz. that's at 1.3v mind you, 4.2ghz crashed at 1.35v even though the CPU was around 63 celcius
Hi guys. I got myself a nice budget gaming rig, G3258 + Zotac 750ti. I got these because i smashed my laptop some while ago and i needed a computer. So far it runs most games quite fine but i find myself playing BF4 90% of the time and it's like playing BF3 on my laptop; low graphics, stuttering and it's aesthetically pleasing as games from 2010.
My full rig:
PSU: Xigmatek 450W (this is probably the weakest link)
CPU: G3258 clocked at 4.1ghz
GPU: Zotac GTX750Ti
Ram: 1x Kingston Savage 4gb and 1x Kingston Fury (both 1600mhz)
So what should i upgrade first? Go for a good graphics card? My budget is sort of flexible and i live in Istanbul so prices may not be as fair as US prices.
I got the Evo in my rig, pushed for 1.325v at 4.2ghz. was working for gaming but when i opened Lightroom it BSOD'd. Pulled it back to 1.3v at 4.1ghz where it's 100% stable. I'm kind of worried if i buy an I5 4690k and end up with a similar barely overclockable chip.
Found a happy spot at 1.215v at 4ghz. Ran a short stress test and it's stable so far. Ordered a CM Evo 212 for my rig, i'll see what i can do with that. But as far as going all in, i tried 1.315v at 42x (short increases until this voltage) and still bsod'd.
I'm not sure if it needs 1.3v to hit 4.1ghz. I tried 1.25v and managed 4.0ghz but it BSOD'd while playing Injustice. Should i tweek more or is my chip one of those chips that's not the best overclocker?
Hi guys, been looking at a lot of OC videos and stuff but i keep seeing people getting 4.4ish ghz on their g3258s, now granted not every cpu is the same but the highest i got was 4.1ghz with 1.3v. Any more and it either BSOD'd (cpu running too hot with 42x multiplyer? I have a stock cooler. Will get a better cpu cooler either tomorrow or this week. One of my questions is what is the maximum voltage i should set to on this rig? Is voltage not a problem at 1.4v as long as the load temp is under 70 c?
Honestly it was such a long time ago i don't even remember. It just made me hate Vista, that and the stupid amounts of system it needed. XP was my choice in those days and i stubbornly kept with it until i put my old tower to rest. RIP in pepperinos Nvidia fx5500 and 512 mb ram
I did exactly that and it didn't accept the file. It was for Hitman Bloodmoney, completed the game and wanted to play with some cheats on my friends computer. It bothered me for a half hour and i called quits.
My G3258 is fine with Lightroom. I had 4gb ram and it was pretty bad, ran like one of the latest Ubisoft games. But after putting in another stick of ram it ran smooth and i'm quite pleased with it. You should be fine with that processor if you're doing Lightroom stuff.
My biggest gripe with Vista was that i couldn't edit a .txt file in a game directory. No matter what i did it didn't save, or it didn't accept it. I've used PCs all my life and i couldn't change one line of text. Vista is just... *sigh* just screw that OS
