I'd have thought techies would prefer this slightly more in-depth stuff to the tidal wave of buzzwords and bullshit they were feeding us at the start.

Toby got a reaction from Kira0172 in Mouse DPI discussion and what you use.
Windows sensitivity should usually be at 6/11. The only reason to lower it that I can find is in the pursuit of making ridiculous DPI values usable.

Typically I'll recommend people keep windows/in-game sensitivity at defaults at lower their DPI as much as possible without it becoming impractical. Why? Imagine trying to hit the red dot...

    High DPI;

    Low DPI:

If you can even see the red dot in the high DPI image, I hope you'll agree it'd be harder to hit. The lower your DPI, the easier it is to hit things.

This used to be me. I got my brand new Logitech G5 in the year two thousand-and-whatever, which was capable of thousands more DPI than any other mouse I'd owned, and for some reason came to the conclusion that higher the DPI I forced myself to get used to, the better off I'd be for it. So, like you, I end up barely needing to move my wrist (let alone my entire arm), and using my wrist for stability/additional control. Fast forward a few years, having done a significant amount of gaming and gained a little more technical knowledge, I decide to experiment with DPI values and realize my ridiculous DPI was ridiculous, so I lower it. Unfortunately, multiple years of gaming at such a DPI mean I'm now far too used to anchoring my wrist and so I switch to a sort of finger-tip grip with my G5, because it's the only way I can move my mouse as much as I need at my new-found sensible DPI without moving the location of my wrist/my arm. Fast foward a little more and it's time to get a new mouse, however by this time I've fully transitioned to using a fingertip grip and so my list of potential replacements consists of the Abyssuses and Spawns of this world, because as with my G5, the wonderful G400s and Deathadders were really a bit too big to be ideal for the grip I'd developed as a direct result of using too high a DPI.

So remember kids, keep that DPI low, lest you end up having to use tiny mice from the budget lines of gaming peripherals.

Toby got a reaction from Verne in Battle: Logitech G602 vs Razer Ouroboros (picture inside)
Objectively, it seems to come down to sensor + buttons vs convenient recharging (Ouroboros can recharge via cable, where the G602 requires battery changes, correct?)

I'd probably recommend the G602 to most people, seeing as the battery life would probably be sufficient for most people. I imagine you'd need to spend a lot of time at the computer for the Ouroboros' recharge convenience to outweigh the G602'2 optimal sensor. Then again, if you adore convenience and play zero FPS/competitive games, the Ouroboros might win out.

Of course, subjective preferences could produce a clear winner, if you significantly prefer the shape of one over the other or something.

You're vastly overestimating the awareness/intentions of most NCIX Tech Tips subscribers. Regular users don't look into things as deeply as we happen to have done with LTT. They found a channel they liked, they subscribed and they watch it. They don't watch livestreams, visit forums, comment on videos or look into related channels. They aren't part of this community and probably have absolutely no awareness that LMG exists. It's not that they're refusing to unsub out of spite, they simply had an expectation denied and clicked dislike because of it.

The fact that anything's "scaring" you about the future of the channel is exactly what sets you apart from the majority of subscribers. To most subscribers it probably holds very little importance, but to answer your question - once they flip the switch and Linus is no longer associated with NCIX, then they might as well be starting a new channel. If you look at NCIX Tech Tips with Linus and NCIX Tech Tips post-Linus as two different channels (which they practically are, in terms of viewer expectations), then it becomes much easier to understand. The second they flip that switch, it's like the old channel disappears and everyone finds themselves subscribed to a channel they never subscribed to...That's inevitably going to annoy people, regardless of how good the content is. NCIX is just going to have to put up with the dislikes (at least until people realize what's happened and click unsubscribe), because that's the cost of automatically having the subscribers/exposure of their "old channel".

I don't feel bad, because I tend to support/promote anyone I like. I've probably gotten more ad revenue for Linus by linking his videos elsewhere, for example, than if I'd never linked to him and had adblock turned off.

This all depends on whether the piracy-edition joke blew up before or after that article. It wouldn't surprise me if they ended up getting a lot of copies pirated simply because people wanted to see the joke for themselves.

And as always, they're painting this picture as 3104+ people whose purchases they're missing out on, rather than 3104+ people who otherwise would never have played the game, or 3104+ people who will potentially pay for the proper version.

There's a lot of aspects and preferences when it comes to a "perfect mouse."

    Things to take into consideration:
    - sensor
    - switches
    - shape
    - weight
    - button feel
    - scrollwheel

More than often people think laser = better, which isn't the case. Laser sensors usually have more acceleration and other tracking issues when compared to optical sensors.

Regarding your question about the RAT7, it's horrible and avoid at all costs.

    Mice, with perfect sensors:
    - Microsoft WMO 1.1
    - Microsoft IMO 1.1
    - Microsoft IME 3.0
    - Logitech G400
    - Logitech G400s
    - Razer DeathAdder 2013
    - Razer DeathAdder 3G
    - Razer DeathAdder 3.5G
    - Razer Abyssus
    - Zowie FK
    - CM Storm Spawn
    - CM Storm Xornet

Of course it isn't the only option. It's the preferable option is all.

The problem is that we have a quantifiable deviation in the laser sensors...We know that they don't go where they should go and we can know to what extent that happens, so when we consider how the human brain forms expectations of where the pointer should go based on the movement of the mouse, it's hard to see how that imprecision wouldn't change the outcome of various situations. What you need to explain is how you know that when you miss with your laser mouse, you'd have missed with an optical. I'm sure you must have missed shots that practically scraped the side of someone's head...How do you know that some of those shots wouldn't have been a kill with an optical mouse, if only the acceleration of your laser mouse hadn't sent your crosshair that fraction too far?

Again, I'm not saying comfort isn't an issue (but to be fair, the Thermaltake is rather an extreme example in that it is such a unusually shaped mouse), but that if given a choice between say, a Kone XTD and a Kone Pure Optical while if the sensor and shape are your main concerns (weights/software having no baring on your decision - hypothetically), why would you take the XTD over the Pure Optical?

I think people are perfectly within their rights to dislike something that isn't what they subscribed for...That's what the like/dislike dynamic is for.

Fact is, the majority of people who subscribed to NCIX Tech Tips did so because of Linus. They're subscribed to see videos of Linus. The majority of people probably have no idea that he's left. The people who follow Linus closely enough to know that he's quit NCIX and started his own company will still be the minority of NCIX subscribers.

Now, once people realize he's actually gone (or if he hasn't gone, then once he has), there probably will be a horde of people that unsubscribe. There will be some that are content with a new presenter and there will be people who subscribe because it's not Linus doing it anymore, but they will lose a huge chunk of their viewers and they will need to rebuild their channel...That's just a natural consequence of a personality-driven channel that changes its personality.

Imagine the next season of Breaking Bad suddenly became a documentary about the relationships of cellmates in jail and it happened to be amazing...People who tuned in expecting to see a continuation of the story would still be pissed off and they'd still complain, despite the fact that it was good, because they'd have formed expectations about Breaking Bad and what it delivered. That's all that's happening here - people's expectations aren't being met and so, quite reasonably, they're disgruntled. That doesn't make them children, it just makes them human.

I "agree somewhat" with piracy. I don't think it should be legal, but I think the distribution system these big companies use should be redesigned and I think the punishment should be far lower than they are. If you get caught now you can be fined hundreds of thousands of dollars, which is just pantsu-on-head retarded.

Here is a very long and detailed post I wrote about a year ago on why piracy isn't bad, and how it actually helps a lot of people (as well as lots of quotes from content creators who think piracy is good).

How occasionally is occasionally? I just realized you're the same person that made this topic in the first place, and you've asked about the DA vs G400 before.

If you care about absolute precision, go with the G400/DA. Based on the fact you owned the Taipan (and assuming you liked it apart from the side buttons), I'd also suggest the Zowie FK since it has a similarish shape. However, if you're okay with "acceptable" precision, then pretty much anything with the shape/features you want with a half-decent reputation should be fine (so in this instance, the G500 would beat the G400 if it had features you wanted that the G400 didn't).
