  1. People are actually still paying $130 for a 4790K?

  2. I can remember watching him unbox shit on a bench in the parking lot. They handled the change from unboxing to full product reviews and showcases so well though I hardly noticed it at the time though. Also checked my account creation date and I guess I've been here since Jan 5th 2013, so I think that makes me a fairly senior member.
  3. A single 1080 or 1080Ti is probably fine for a Windows 7 PC tbh
  4. Yeah that's what the seller said as well, however that was not what I observed. This one was stone dead, no lights, no beeps, no sign of life with either a 65w power supply or a 330w power supply. I can't imagine that a 330w psu would not be enough...
  5. Hi All, just wondering if anyone has any specific experience with these machines. I ordered one from eBay since you can get them very cheaply and wanted something to play around with. It was sold as used and in working condition, however it appears it was DOA. I tried multiple different power supplies (since these use a laptop style PSU). Tried different amounts of RAM in different locations, still nothing, stone dead. Contacted the seller about this and they claim that it's actually because I am using a generic power supply and some Dell power supplies and that these PC's only work on HP branded power supplies. That doesn't sound right to me? I even was able to back probe the power input and I could see 19.5v DC coming into the board which again pointed me to the PSU not being the issue... Any hope here or is it likely that I'm just out $35?
  6. Look at it this way. If he was a stranger, would you feel any different? It might not have been exceedingly generous of him to sell you his reservation, but he did infact have something of value, that you gave him money for. It's not like, insanely unethical or something to do that. And the fact that you believed the $100 to be worth it in order to purchase a card you wouldn't have been able to otherwise seems to point to the fact that you thought it was at least somewhat fair at some point. Just like how scalping in general is ethically dubious, it only exists when a market for a product exists beyond what the manufacturer priced it at. No one would have been able to scalp an $800 GPU for $2000 if there weren't people out there will to pay $2000 for that card. You could argue that anyone who paid that price was "scammed" but at the time they made the purchase, the only way to do that was to pay the $2000 and they deemed that a price they were willing to pay for some item.
  7. Yeah I have looked into NextCloud before, but as far as I could tell any user that I sent a link to would have to login to a NextCloud account and possibly have to do some sort of file navigation. Ideally a replacement solution would have me be able to send a user a link, the click the link, and then click a download button. Even just doing that is a bit difficult for some users...
  8. Alright so I have been trying to find a replacement for google drive for a while but I've had some issues with trying to replace some functionality of Google Drive. All I really want to be able to do is to host files on a server locally, then be able to create a link to either the file itself or to a folder that has files in it, then be able to send people that link in order for them to download it. I know that if I have a server setup to be accessed remotely I could always have people login and find the files they want and download them, but I work with a lot of non tech savvy people who would not be able to navigate that kind of structure, and Google Drive's ability for me to just create a link for them to click is something I couldn't do without. If anyone knows of a NAS OS or anything like that that has this capability it would be greatly appreciated
  9. I haven't bought any PC parts from them in a long time, but I have recently bought car parts from them and it was a pleasant experience. They have good prices and they shipped it all quickly, however I would hesistate to buy from them in the future after watching Gamers Nexus's video on them
  10. There should be some option in your bios to change it. I don't know how on your board specifically but it's usually something like, highlight where it says Raid, then use the arrow keys, or the +- keys or something to change it to AHCI. It likley isn't showing your drives as they are set to raid and you don't have them configured in a raid array, once you can get it changed to AHCI I believe they should show up.
  11. Change them to AHCI instead of Raid. Also on a bare drive you often have to format it first in the installer before it will let you select the drive and hit next to continue with installation.
  12. 40/hrs a week does suck, but it gets easier as you get older. Moving to the US sounds like it might be a good idea but just remember that it's pretty rare here for anyone to make a living and work less than 40/hrs a week. I have an engineering degree and still do 45-50 hours a week just to afford to live where I do (although I do live near a major city).
  13. SLI is no good no more. I have a Aorus laptop with 2 970m's in SLI and games unironically run better when I have it set to only use one.
  14. The thing that sucks the most is reading through the admins posts, it seems like they don't want to sell it either in any capacity. Lots of people on that forum talking about trying to get money together for it, but owners aren't even really responding... Seems like they just want to see it burn.
  15. Very sad, I've been a member on Notebookreview almost as long as I've been a member here. LTT forums are great, but if you want to fix an old laptop there is no replacement for them. So far it seems like they wont hand over the database and they didn't leave us with enough time to backup the forums manually... Hopefully someone is able to get something thrown together atleast just to archive what is there now.
  16. Oh, well then yeah I guess you just have to run the risk that it doesn't work.
  17. From the Amazon page: TB31PCIEX16 does not work with graphics cards. Atha, StarTech.com Support EDIT: Someone else in the reviews showed it working on a Mac with an RX550, however another customer said they tried with a GTX970 and an external PSU and that did NOT work. Seems like it's a toss up as to whether it will work, so it's up to you if you feel like risking it. It's not really much cheaper than a used Razer Core X or something like that though, which specifically DOES support graphics cards.
  18. Should probably just pick out a pre-built system for your friend, really the only way to not pay 2x to 3x the price for a GPU.
  19. A 2600 is not better than your 4770. Just stream with QuickSync and you shouldn't have any issues. Also I have noticed specifically with LoL that disabling shadows seems to make streaming FPS much better.
  20. Why is a 4790K still $150+? Who's paying these prices?

That is a bit crazy.  An OCed 4790k will still only run as fast as a modern low end i3.  There were a lot of 9z97 boards though.  To update to a modern system is cpu/mobo/ram, so it’s not competing with just a cpu, but with the cost of an entire update.  It will probably stay ther until even an OCed 4790k can’t play modern games though at which point the price will plummet.

  21. Flex on your gf with all the cash you get from reselling the 3070 shes getting you.
  22. Alright, almost no way anyone knows what this might be but I figured I'd give it a shot. I have been using an Aorus X7 V5, i7 6820HK OC'ed to 4Ghz and undervolted 40mV, 32GB RAM, 970M SLI. I have been using a Dell 330W 19.5V laptop power supply since it's what I had already, it uses the same size plug, and matches the voltage requirement of the stock charger. Now being that this laptop requires a 230W charger stock, I'd think that with a 330W charger I should be all set, but it seems if I play games with SLI enabled it will randomly hard power cut and shut off. Not only that but it also seems to trip overcurrent protection in the laptop brick as well. Now I know that when I'm playing games I'm only pulling around 230W, I've measured it with a plug reader. Just not sure what else to look at here though.
  23. Agree with Skiiwee29, 32in at an arms length feels perfect to me. It did feel like a bit much at first after upgrading from 27in.
