TheGeekster reacted to Laputacake in Shorted power supply/ Dead pc? HELP? o.O
There you have it. That is a teir 5 PSU that I quote "Tier Five - Replace immediately. These units are NOT recommended for any system, no matter the purpose. Reference to higher tiered models for a better and potentially money-saving unit " -http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html

TheGeekster got a reaction from FatalityDiablo in download is low, i guess?
They way ISP's sell internet is by Mega-BIT not Mega-BYTE which is what steam is showing. 1MegaBYTE is roughly equal to 8~10MegaBIT so you are getting full speed. If you want full speed downloads in steam, remove any throttling.

TheGeekster reacted to Captain_WD in Issue installing RAID 0
Hello tinsleytdi and welcome to Linus Tech Tips forum Now, first of all I must say that Putting two WD Green drives in RAID0 and using them as a bootable drive is a rather bad idea. It is not recommended to use non-NAS/RAID class drives in a RAID array because the chance of dropping out is much larger and thus losing all data on the array. Second, RAID0 enables your drives to work much faster but it doubles the chance of failure as in case either of the drives fail, you would lose everything on both drives. WD Green is a energy-efficient drive and is reported to work good in RAID1, but is is highly risky to use in in RAID0. I would recommend using one of the drives as bootable drive and the second as a secondary storage. Your other option is to get a SSD for a bootable drive and use the other two drives for storage (separately or in RAID1). How are your drives' settings (AHCI, GPT, etc.)? Can you see the drives normally in they are not in RAID mode? could you post a screenshot of the problem? Thanks @Geekazoid for mentioning Captain_WD. -
TheGeekster got a reaction from alphabeta in Air Can(compressor)
That could literally be anything, from one clean out to like 50, it depends on how many fans you have, what heatsinks you've got, how big the case is, how dusty it is, etc etc, there's no real measurement beyond trying it.

TheGeekster reacted to Ssoele in Portable Virtualization Server
About
For some of my classes, we need a lot of virtualization. Usually everyone runs his own VMs on this/her laptop, but not everyone has enough resources.
So I came up with this solution, a small portable server that I can just carry in my backpack and plug it in during the classes. Most of the components I have already, just the CPU and motherboard I had to buy.
To start off, I will use 16GB of RAM, but might upgrade this if needed.
Specification
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1245 V2
CPU Cooling: Scythe Kozuti
Motherboard: ASUS B75M-PLUS
Memory: Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G (4x) (16GB)
Storage: OCZ Agility 3 120GB, Kingston 8GB SSDnow, WD 500GB (WD5000BEKT)
Case: CoolerMaster Elite 100
Power Supply: Seasonic SS300M1U
Fan: Noctua NF-P14 FLX, 2x Noctua NF-A4x10
Switch: TP-Link TL-SG1005D (Soon to be replaced to TL-SG105)

TheGeekster reacted to LarsReviews in Dear LTT Community,
So many people write really nice articles or post really informative news. Please give those OPs a like. For example the guy who posted the "Earn money with free HDD space" Tech News.
They deserve it more then the post with a random gif.
Edit: Ups, this is not off-Topic. @alpenwasser , could you please move this thread.

Lool mouse delay? So many excuses for having a bad score haha.

TheGeekster reacted to Tenge500 in Conclusion.
I came to the conclusion that response time doesn't matter at all. I mean it doesn't matter wether a monitor has 1ms response time or 5-6 ms response time.
MS = milliseconds
Milliseconds = 1/1000 of second.
Are you serious? Like 2-3-4 milliseconds will decide wether you can shoot the target on time or not...that's ridiculous.
It's just marketing, boys.
Just letting you know!

TheGeekster reacted to Tedster in Samsung XP941 M.2 SSD Boot failure
Welcome to the Forum.
Why don't you go into the BIOS and set the SSD as the main boot drive?

TheGeekster got a reaction from Tedster in Samsung XP941 M.2 SSD Boot failure
In the bios, is it set to first boot device?
Next time the error comes up, reboot it and check to see if the drive is detected in the bios.

TheGeekster reacted to Lazmarr in All USB Devices Disconnecting/Shutting Off
Already have the latest USB drivers...however it does seem to be a common problem on AMD motherboards with an unupdated Southbridge chipset that's incompatible with win 8.
I couldn't find the chipset drivers for my Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 but I did find some for the Sabertooth 990FX which uses the same southbridge.
Hopefully it will fix it
Edit: Hmm seems they listed it under win7 rather than win8 -___-

Your USB driver seems to have a problem. (5 errors in the last 24h)
Can you get a closer look on the usbehci error?

TheGeekster got a reaction from IMA UNICORN in 2.5 alternatives
I think, he meant any device made to go into a sata bay as he's got the adapter?
As far as I'm aware there's nothing else that can go into a 2.5 inch bay, only 3.5 desktop sized ones are generally front facing and could be used for something.
The only things that can connect expressly to sata though are disk drives and storage drives.

TheGeekster got a reaction from Server_is_fucked in What Should I Include in My SSD Boot Drive? (OS/Drivers/Programs?)
Yeah you can install what ever you want, just when you start to fill it too much, say about 80-90% then it may start to slow down. You have to install your drivers on the system drive anyway, so OS+drivers+programsyoureallyreallylikefast

TheGeekster reacted to D2ultima in Laptop drivers problem
If that model is old and does not have Win 8 drivers from Sony, then you kind of screwed up. You might need to install 7 again, but you can do so without the bloatware.

You mean format it? Is this harddrive currently in use and does it have any important data on it? If so, back that sh*t up.
The simple way to format it (completely wipe anything on it). My computer > Click on the Harddrive > Format

TheGeekster got a reaction from Atomika in Hard drive problem / bug?
If you download crystal disk info, it'll give you a rough indication of the hard drive's health. (Typed that so many times today)
If you open up resource manager, it will tell you what files are being read/written to most, so you could work it out from there, not sure about the way COD works in terms of level loading while in a game or something.
