  1. Windowed for testing, same fps issue in full screen
  2. i expect around ~80fps, which is achievable when game is not in focus, running at ultra 1080, when game is in focus getting between 30-50fps. This behavior is the same in both offline and online modes.
  3. Issue is, only time cpu behaves as expected is when game is not in focus, forcing me to use controller rather than keyboard and mouse, and that cpu behavior is not normal when game is in focus. I suppose to expand on the root issue, when game is in focus, fps is unstable.
  4. Afternoon all, Recently, I have upgraded to a 6700k and GTX 1080. When I first installed these I appeared to have no issue. I then went messing with affinity settings in task manager and now I get the following behavior, only on GTA V. GTA V runs on launch utilising only processors 0 & 7 maxing them to 100% Setting affinity to exclude processors 0 & 7 results in 1 thru 6 carrying the load @ approximately 60% per processor. Resetting to all processors, reverts to only 0 & 7 @ 100% If the game is not in focus, with no changes to affinity, it appears to use all 8 processors @ approximately 50% per processor. I intend to do a full reinstall of windows and games but hoped someone might have some suggestions before hand. Other troubleshooting included; checking power settings and confirming on High Performance. running MSConfig to ensure all cores are set up there(have reverted to auto) disabling steam overlay updated all key drivers & BIOS Thanks in advance,
  5. So I just watched https://www.vessel.com/videos/JSQFSjm5I (Tape Drives As Fast As Possible) and it got me thinking. Can you use a tape deck like in the 80's and a normal cassette tape to do data back up. I'm assuming the capacity of a standard cassette tape isn't that high. I found something suggesting that it would be around 2MB, which is next to nothing, but could be enough for a couple of vital documents. In all honesty, I can't imagine for one moment this would be a practical idea, I'm just wondering if it's possible or how you go about doing it.
  6. tbh, was more a reaction to Linus's reaction. I still have a q6600 in a rig running.
  7. So I've attempted to use vessel and it doesn't work for me, I've been able to sign up, I assume that it's either my browser or something else, but I'm able to log in and I'm just presented with blank screen with my user name and a menu at the top. The menu functions, but when it loads the next screen it's just blank again.
  8. Could just remove the drive letter in computer management -> Disk management. Also, i tend to agree it's not his boot partition, but perhaps an old one, it could also be a recovery partition, or perhaps the 350 unlabeled drive is the recovery and the 100 is the boot. Also, it's showing as readable, take a look in there, my boot partition has only 1 folder, 'boot' it's using a 100mb partition and only 28.4mb of that is in use. without more info it's only guessing, but windows tends to not allocate a drive letter to your boot partition. A corrupt boot partition is relatively easy to fix with a windows install disc or stick. i would be tempted to remove it, and fix it if it breaks, just boot from install media and select recover and it will scan the discs looking for windows installs and recreate the boot partition if needs be.
  9. Thanks for the quick replies. This is pretty much the conclusion I had arrived at, so thanks for the conformation there.
  10. As the option to upgrade or rebuild is quite a subjective one here's a little more info. I currently have plenty of games that I can play with no issues at all, if I'm honest, the only real issue I'm running into as far as I can tell is the lack of RAM, I have recently encountered a couple of games that require 64 bit system and 4+GB of RAM and I cannot play these due to both of those limitations. I also stream on twitch from time to time and I do encounter issues with some but defiantly not all games, most notably Kerbal Space Program, but I imagine this problem is caused by the RAM issue I previously spoke of, as the game often crashes due to lack of memory. So the obvious upgrade is to the RAM, but as all the system components are quite old, I'm considering not wasting the money on RAM and just building a new rig and demoting this machine to a stream capture box and file server. Note about RAM, From what I have discovered the RAM I have is actually 667MHz, the model numbers suggests this too, but my system is only reporting 333MHz, so any suggestions as to how to resolve that would be appreciated too.
