  1. So.... the HDDs make too much noise have to figure out some solution ^^
  2. yeap. would improve, considered it, but the temps are fine and i keep the eye on the dust =) maybe i remove it not sure if i should go WD red or green for 3tb archive
  3. Awesome I like the colors
  4. Doing some Torture tests http://youtu.be/zgD53PNJO1A I am really surprised how good the i5 stock cooler handles the celeron
  5. Wohooo The Silent Enermax came today Now I can finally build it together ^^
  6. Maybe a tool that does "random access" or stuff like this? But I am really happy! Btw: http://youtu.be/5oTzn0oVdHw
  7. Does someone know a better benchmark tool than the one attached?
  8. =) Well! 15 Watt idle power consumption (HDDs spinning) =) That is awesome!
  9. Switched the celeron boxed fan to the one that came with the i5 of a friend
  10. Because the Celeron has a better bang for the buck ratio ^^ If it is too slow, i dont care about 30€ but the next pentium was about 20-30% more expensive for 15% more power or sth like this. i had seen some benchmarks Windows 7/8 would also be an option I just want to try it out. I am getting all Windows versions for free at my university. but you are completely right! windows 7/8 would be really okay for a simple server like this
  11. Yes. Because a fileserver with some TS3 and CSGO doesnt need a xeon. And Little Sister is a full gaming / LAN rig And also energy is not that cheap in germany idle 25W or 40W makes a huge difference
  12. To be honest, it is the first time that i build a server I don't need software to use it as a NAS, because i only use Samba shares. I won't use any RAID mode, because I don't need redundancy within the server. There is always an offline Backup that is generated every weekend and is not connected to system. Teamspeak, CSGO and other software should run just fine. Currently i am doing the same thing on an old laptop with Win7x64, but i want to learn about Windows Server 2012 R2, so i decided to give it a try If the celeron is too weak, i will put my i3-4330 from little sister into the server and she gets an xeon
  13. I dont need them But once i started... there was no way back btw: thx guys for 25,000 views
  14. Windows Server 2012 R2 Thats sad to hear. But no worries. The celeron is 30€... if it is too slow, i put another cpu into the server
  15. Thx for the follows The Case has been shipped today! And I also dredged up some unused/old HDDs. No need for new ones yet. But I am going to order some 3TB WD-Red. HDDs so far: 1x 640GB WD Cavier Blue 1x 750GB Samsung 7.200RPM 2x 1000GB Seagate Barracuda 7.200RPM And 1x Crucial MX100 128GB for the OS and for the Gaming and Web Servers =) Details to the main components (board, cpu etc) come as soon as the postman gave them to me not sure of the final specs yet!
  16. What is the Server used for? * NAS functionality (without RAID, because no need for) * Teamspeak 3 * CS:GO Server for clan training and practice * Webserver for a photography blog * Backup for my data - lots of photos and videos! * Media server for the family What are the planned specs? * Intel Celeron G1840 2x2.80 GHz --> Powerefficient * 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 --> more than enough * 360 Watt Seasonic G Serie 360 (80+ GOLD) --> most efficient low wattage PSU with enough connectors * Cooltek W1 Mini ITX Tower * ASRock Z97E-ITX/ac <-- got it cheap (30€ off) and the Z97 offers a lot of SATA 6Gbit * 128GB Crucial MX100 2.5" for the OS and Gameservers * Harddrives
  17. Hey Guys! So I made up my mind... and my Home Server is going to be build over the next days The Hardware has already been ordered =)) Under Construction! - Details later today!
  18. This is the Card i had at this time. I just removed the two fans that came with the gpu and strapped the noctuas with zipties onto it
  19. Hey guys! After some time with a "buffalo linkstation", an online rented Ts3 Server and doing my backups on USB HDDs, i was thinking about building my own NAS. I wanted to upgrade to Intel 8Core after Christmas, but it will not give me the gaming performance boost that is in any relation to the amount of money i have to spend to switch to X99. So a mini Server it'll be Now I want to ask you guys if for this usage the rig would be okay: * Running MS Server 2012 (I get it for free from my university) * Using it as a simple NAS (Samba Shares) without RAID (I really don't need redundancy) * Have a Teamspeak 3 and maybe a CSGO&Minecraft Server running on it * Using it as a Backup for my Systemimages and Steamimages This would be the Hardware i was thinking about to get. HDDs are more than enough lying around here I went with the 360W Seasonic, because in "idle" and small load ist is very efficient smallest Wattage gold PSU I also thought about switching my i3-4330 instead of the celeron into the Server and giving Little Sister a 4790K Questions: * Is the dualcore powerful enough? * What about the Case? Is the Fractal Node 304 a better Solution? Thx for your help and feedback
