A - show me the reprimand. I'll wait. I stated a fact and said 'be aware of the impact'.

B - you are ignoring the common sense aspect of this. We make money by producing content and being paid through ads
He makes money through businesses validating their hardware. We never actually used the software for its 'commercial use'. All we did was demonstrate how to use it. We fired it up once and havent touched it since. It's very clearly a flawed parallel you're drawing.

You can disagree all you want, but it's pretty standard practice.

We allow the use of our (unedited) videos in schools - even if they are for-profit and consider it to be just basic common sense.

Version 5 from what I can tell and around that time there was very limited mention of commercial licenses on the site.

I will state this again, LTT still did and does owe for a license but a witch hunt isn't called for in my opinion.

To be fair for the whole licensing windows thing, they do a new build nearly every day using the same drive with the same windows copy on it to save time.
Changing the hardware deactivate the license. They just can't be arsed going through the process of re-activating it for the n-th time when it literally doesn't affect what they use the new build for (benchmarks) before disassembling it and shelving the parts for the next build.

But from what I know from watching their videos, all their machines that they actually use for more than a few hours have proper windows licensed I believe.

Linus's response to this is predictable. He'll acknowledge the mistake, apologize, buy a license, and say that the team will double check all licenses for on-screen products going forward.

This was very obviously an oversight, not malicious.

Level1Tech does a TON of stuff that would be helpful for enterprise level with servers, linux and the likes. Wendell is a mad geek at this stuff and very very few can rival his knowledge in most areas around these topics.

thehardwarehacker reacted to YoungBlade in Linux over windows 11?
Apart from gaming, I honestly prefer Linux over Windows since Windows 10. I switched my laptop over to Ubuntu 20.04 earlier this year because I just hate having to spend so much time uninstalling random crap that Microsoft puts back into the OS after updates. I remove Cortana, Edge, Maps, etc because I don't want them, and yet, after an update, there they are again. Or, they've added new nonsense, like that "News and Interests" thing. That doesn't happen on Linux. When I remove a piece of software, it stays removed. And general updates don't mess with the way I've configured my desktop.

The crown jewel of Microsoft's recent stupidity came with an update in May that has broken the search function completely on my desktop. I can't use search in Windows Explorer nor the Start Menu unless I go into a new user account that I created after that update. I just haven't found the time to migrate all of my documents over, but frankly, I shouldn't have to.

I want a computer that I can set up and then use, not one that I have to constantly be tinkering with to get it to do what I want. Which is, ironically, why I didn't switch to Linux back in the day. Windows XP through 8.1 just worked, and Linux required regular tinkering because updates could mess things up. Now, I haven't had an update break a piece of functionality on Linux since 2014, while Windows 10 updates regularly leave me searching online to fix something or to undo something I don't like.

i see. im only asking because sadly this of one of the better deals im left with at the moment. as i said up top, i just need the board so i can stick an E5-2640 V2, so the included CPU is of no real use to me, at least that i can see currently.
