A vet apparently told a customer that she needs to add coconut or olive oil to their pet's food to enhance absorption of taurine...
What about that tells you it's hydrophobic or fat-soluble!

The HO (or OH) on the end shows that it is a polar molecule and thus will not dissolve into fats, but will dissolve into water.

Are you a potato? Cuz you've got "Idaho" written all over yourself.

Taurine is a polar molecule because...
Spoilerits functional groups contain an electronegative atom and capable of intramolecular H-bonding; a requirement for an organic compound to be water soluble. In the cause of Taurine, the H-bonding exceeded the hydrophobic forces.
- hydroxyl anion is polar
- amino side chain is polar
- sulfoxide bond is also polar
Unlike ADEK vitamins that need to hitchhike on lipids to be absorbed via simple diffusion, Taurine needs a channel to be absorbed via a channel just like amino acids which are mostly water soluble.
