In gaming, it helps in scenarios where you are cpu limited and some titles that really seem to like a lot of memory bandwidth, but with most games that are gpu limited, you won't notice any difference.

Unlikely that kaby lake will offer performance difference to be worth it, unless you wanted to upgrade to a kaby lake i7.

It always makes me laugh when a company says it lost X amount of money based on X amount of people pirating pirating their product, like there would be just as many people that would have considered it worth the full asking price rather than free. They probably lose some money to piracy, but anti piracy practices probably also makes them lose some potential costumers.

Doesn't matter if they get the cost down, it will always be more cost effective to put them beside the road. If you had unlimited budget and a desperate need for energy, then they could work, but I doubt that would ever happen.

While I do believe maxwell might have some sort of async compute, we've never seen it, cause it has never been enabled in drivers, nvidia said so. But if it does have it, it's probably broken to the point where it causes problems or reduces performance.

I think it's rather because people focus too much on conclusions rather than on the arguments. Faced with the same arguments, different people will come with different conclusions. Different conclusions can be equally valid based on what a person values most.

Would be cool if it was two chips on the same die with a high-bandwidth low-latency interconnect (the new GMI?) and it appearing to the system and applications as a single GPU without the usual multiGPU penalties and scaling issues. A man can dream, can't he?

I think Raja mentionned on pcper's stream this week that they started with the size of the gpu, probably based around the expected yields they were gonna get from the manufacturing process. Smaller die means better yields, and a mature process also means better yields. 14nm and 16nm are new so it doesn't make economic sense to make the big chips now.
