Pommy192 reacted to BlackXbonE in Can my computer play Overwatch @1080p60
better take a 380 instead of the 270x. sells for the same price but is ahead in performance. or if you can, wait for polatis 10 to (hopefully) come out next month (470, 480 cards)
edit: also you could safe some on the psu. if you want to upgrade in future there is least likely goinig to be any component that will be as powerhungry as an fx-8xxx processor and gpus become way more powerefficient aswell, and even for that current rig 500w 80+ bronze will be more then enought - unless ofcourse you are aiming for some serious overclocking business.

Pommy192 reacted to Suika in Can my computer play Overwatch @1080p60
For Overwatch? My GTX 860M is able to play it on high settings at 90-120FPS, I'm sure the 370X will be very capable of handling higher settings.
Obviously this isn't the most optimal setup anyway. You spent way too much on the case, the power supply was a rather poor choice, picking an AMD processor was a bad idea unless you're doing a lot of video editing, but even then you could have bought a Xeon E3-1231v3 and had better gaming and editing performance, and an R9 380 would have been a much better GPU choice.

Pommy192 reacted to capdauntless in Laptop Overheating
Well the low voltage ones are relatively OK (AMD e350 puts out zero heat) but in this case I have a feeling this member is running something a little more powerful.

Pommy192 reacted to capdauntless in Laptop Overheating
To start I would never run a modern laptop on your lap. Too much residual heat from your body heating that sucker up. How old is the laptop? Is there any dust in the heatsink that you can see from the fan exhaust. If the exhaust is plugged up you can use a can of compressed air to clean it out. If it continues to persist you may have thermal paste issues and it may be worth it to put some new cpu thermal paste on. That of course is if you are willing to open up your laptop (which is not particularly for the faint of heart ).

So you have new case and new psu, did you use stand-offs while placing the motherboard?

Ouch, ouch, ouch.
Do you have any friends who will let you test your new power supply with their systems, or their known working psu with yours? If it was DOA and the old one died after sparking, that might be the only problem (and you'd have been very lucky).

Pommy192,
I would also try shorting the switch pins to verify it isn't an issue with the switch in the case before potentially causing additional fault points. Just a thought.
Hope this helps.

Cpus are a lot more resilient than motherboards, fortunately.

Pommy192 reacted to pwn_intended in EVGA 500W bottom mounted In a CoolerMaster N400
To go into more detail, OEM power supplies are made with the cables EXACTLY as long as they need to be to fit in the case they were designed for. Aftermarket PSU's are made to be compatible with as many case/mobo combinations as possible, so you will usually have to find place to tuck away the extra cable length.

It should reach fine since those old PSUs were made thinking of it being top mounted but in a case that doesn't have good cable management I would try to at least get a semi-modular PSU

Pommy192 reacted to skywake in Is this a good powerline adapter?
In a nutshell, as I've said in numerous other threads in this sub forum, powerline is great for when wireless is crap. But it's no silver bullet. It's not magic and it's not always better than wireless. Pings aren't as good as wired and in many cases are worse than a decent wireless connection but they are better than wireless when it's broken. Speed again isn't anywhere near as good as wired and in many cases worse than wireless but they are better (and over greater distances) than broken wireless. If you are at the edge of the range of your wireless then it's a good option. If not, if you have a good signal, then powerline won't help. Consider getting a better access point, adapter or maybe actually running Ethernet instead.
As for the various types of adapters, to break it down for you simply and with some realistic numbers:
AV200: ~40Mbps
AV500: ~70Mbps
AV600: ~140Mbps

nevermind....

I stand corrected. I only looked at the specs page, which the OP linked. Thought I saw 2 x PCIe x16.

No, it does not work. PCIe and PCI are physically and electrically different.
