Yup. That definitely needs convergence adjustment. (The red, green, and blue electron guns aren't all firing at exactly the same spot on the face of the tube.)

The dark streaking could be capacitors, could be the G2 voltage is cranked too high.

You'll need a remote if you want to make any adjustments on this thing. Sony remotes are all over eBay.

Can you take a straight-on photo of the screen and post it as a JPEG, please? If you're worried about catching your reflection in the picture, turn the lights in the room off and don't use the flash.

From the way you describe it, you probably have a convergence problem. This should be adjustable through the service menus on a TV that recent, if not you'll need some non-conductive adjustment tools because you'll have to take the back off and make internal adjustments while the set's running. This is dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, there's lethal voltage in there. Touch the spicy parts and it's goodnight, Irene.

You've got HDMI, so hook up a laptop or something and pause a test pattern video on the screen. That will help you tune it as best as it's going to get. It's not going to burn in unless you leave it there for hours and hours without moving.

Bear in mind you probably won't get perfection; the geometry on flat tubes was always a little off and that TV is almost 17 years old. You'll have to compromise making the edges sharp without losing too much detail in the middle.

The Facebook group "CRT Collective" will go nuts over this thing. If you post there I'm sure someone will have a step-by-step tuning guide.

that board is very bad. it is cabable of only 50A and it will throttle the cpu by huge amount. Probably the black screens mean that the VRMs are overheating on that crappy motherbaord.

Aftermarket air coolers are fairly uncommon for GPU's as it is, and given that 10xx series have been EOL for over two years now, you're not likely to have many options, if any at all.

Functionally, you have two options that I would consider viable:
Stick with your reference cooler, and optimize airflow within your chassis
    or
opt for a water block off the used market, and invest in an open loop.

I suppose that you have the option of selling/trading your reference card for an AIB non reference card/cooler as well.

pretty similar it would appear. The truly smaller cases are gonna be the cooler master ones and the thermal take and corsair cubeish ones.

The Cooler master q300l is an excellent budget matx case, Corsair has a case called the crystal 280x which is actually very small (shorter but slightly wider than q300l, and they have an air 240 which doesn't have tempered glass but is slightly cheaper, Thermaltakes Level 20vt is cheaper than the 280x by a couple dollars but is slightly larger, another decent small matx case is the bitfenix prodigy. Slightly larger but still excellent cases include phanteks evolv matx, fractal meshify c mini, fractal focus mini, and corsairs 88r.

Please, for the love of God, read up on switches first and then start thinking which ones would you like the most.

Please note the most common switches are MX Blue, Brown, Red and Black. Others are rather hard to obtain, not to mention non-Cherry switches.

If that really is a Cherry MX Black keyboard as it says, it will not feel the same as the Razer keyboard you tried (assuming it was the clicky one). But it will still be good, just a bit heavy for my tastes. This is all dependant on whether it really is an MX Black keyboard.

The razer's switches are similar to mx blues. I use the CM storm quickfire tk mx blue version, its quite cheap for a backlit mech KB. About 80-90$
