500$ usd Gaming LAN pc., including all peripherals. display, even mousepad etc.

BUT, the computers+peripherals also need to be portable. and box/bag. or self-built carrying-case with handle must fit in the budget.

only thing i have locked down is the athlon xp 3200+ cpu tough. it's the best 32bit cpu i can find that's still somewhat available

Okay, I've got this ridiculous idea that most of you are probably going to think I'm just throwing away money trying to execute. Note that I'm doing it for the experience of owning a cutting edge gaming PC at the turn of the century. I need a few examples for reference, I've already got a pretty good idea what I'm looking for but I wasn't into performance PC building at the time so it would be nice to have something to go off of. Maybe a 3DFX Voodoo (2?) build with an appropriate CPU or something in the ballpark of that. A reference such as this (with part numbers especially) would be indispensable.

Anybody knowledgeable on the hardware in this timeframe that can point me in the right direction would be much appreciated. Any special considerations I need to take into account would be splendid as well. Thanks.

    or 400$ gaming pc+spaceheater

Build a computer, that you can game on AND heat up your chilly dorm room in the winter at the same time. you save space and money on not having to buy a heater.

If DX12 improves CPU utilization, you'll be able to do more with less CPU power. That makes CPU matter less, not more.

i'm tired of trying for ages to get oldschool games to work on newer operating systems and hardware.

I'm seriously considering going on eBay and buying an athlon xp 3200+- the best gpu i can find from that era. a FULL gb of ram or something.  putting windows 98 or xp or something on it.

I want to be able to just put in my gazillionaire deluxe cd and play some of that sweet 16bit goodness. and then just switch to imperium galactica and play that. or dungeon keeper. or red alert. and the list goes on and on.

Without having to mess around to get them to work. There's allways easy fixes, but the easy fixes never work. so you do the hard fix. and it's just so tiresome.

I'm not sure what i'm going to do for a display though. there were those 4:5 flatscreens. if i could find that in 1600:1200 resolution for cheap i might get it.

So what do you guys and gals think? anyone interested in a build log if i go through with this?
And does anyone have any suggestions?

there are two things you can do. you can contact your local vet/shelter/animal control if you want them to come pick it up. They will most likely inspect the bird to see if it is in good health and able to recover. The other thing you can do is contact your local falconry organization. They often know other people who would be able to take adequate care for the bird. I dont know about norway but I know in the US falconry-ers are only allowed to own the bird for a few months out of the year before the bird must be returned to the wild, this is to ensure that the birds are not domesticated.

you may want to get rid of the bird fast as it is apparently illegal to house such bird.

Here is link to said bird and its identification. I believe it is a peregrine. according to map they are in norway.

Or whatever this bird happens to be?

Not wanting to have it euthanized for nothing, I've opted to nurture this bird back to health.
It does not seem to have any broken bones or injuries. It does not squawk or resist being moved by hand. So it would seem logical to me that it is fatigue or something.

What should I feed it? Currently I've just defaulted to raw beef and water.

    Any help would be appreciated.

It can stretch it's wings and it did try to fly unsuccessfully when I found it. I am reasonably sure there are no broken bones via careful physical examination. Though I am no veterinarian so I cannot be entirely sure. I found it struggling to fly in my driveway, I heard the noise through my window.

    There's a G-SYNC version too, which is 100Hz rather than 75Hz I believe. The Acer X34, previously the XR341CKA.

    Heyyo,

This is the only logical answer so far tbh...So far? Quad core has the best price to performance when gaming... the only reason to even think about an i7 is for multi-tasking while gaming...
Multi-Threading in DirectX 11 has decent performance gains yes... but how do we know if all games will fully utilize eight working threads properly? So far lots of games I've tried? The eight threads sit at about 40% load each on games... so the same as an i5 would sit at 90% load?

... I dunno, maybe I am a little pessimistic... but I highly doubt this trend will change. To me? The development time for eight working threads versus the proper performance scaling will probably be why four logical cores might stay the optimal setup for at least the time being.
Also, I only have an i7 because a buddy needed to sell off a dogecoin rig so he sold it to me at the same price of an i5 new.

Hey folx. Last Dreamhack i didn't bring my PC. it was 5 months old, but it was an x99 midi-tower. So it was large, and hard to carry with me. So i played on a craptop the entire LAN. That sucked. So i decided i wanted an M-itx pc. Inspired by linusmediagroup videos
    The pc i sold had
    5820k
    4x4gb ddr4 2133mhz crucial memory
    2 gtx 970's.
    1 240gb SSD
    1 120gb SSD
    3+2tb Hdd.
    etc...
    Here's a picture of it

I sold it for 15000 NOK (which is about 1900$ USD).

So, i salvaged the 3tb hdd, and one 120gb ssd. and ordered these beauties:

    Case,             Corsair graphite 380t (black)
    PSU,               cooler master g750. bronze
    Motherboard, Asus z97i-plus Mitx
    RAM.              2x4GB hyperx 2400mhz
    CPU,               intel i5 4690k
GPU,              MSI gtx 980ti 6g gaming
    storage,          2x240GB ssd's for RAID0
cpu cooler,     fractal design kelvin s24, 240mm AIO cooler
and a strip of fancy red LED's. (not installed yet though)

    Things started to arrive:

And then it was time to start building.

Ahh. cable management in an ITX case. thou art a worty foe.

Length wise. This gpu should fit. But i forgot to check height clearence. Hoped it would fit .

    And so it did

Well. that's my build .. I had to learn how to make a usb-drive into a windows install disk. but it turned out well. Now i can carry it with me anywhere.

It ended up costing me 16100 NOK. (2015$ USD). but, i sold used, and bought new. and since i just game, it performs at least as well.
    Color me proud <3
