I bought an EVGA RTX 3070 on ebay (used) at a good price and it worked for all about 10mins before I tried installing drivers and it went crazy and just froze, wouldn't boot until I got the gpu out, tried it in another system same problem as soon as drivers were installed it just stopped (RGB on the card still works and fans etc. but mostly just green static on the screen etc.) Anyway... I was lucky enough to get a card where they included their original receipt and also the card still has 2 years of warranty left.
I was looking at the EVGA RMA Process and it seems like it says you need to pay for a replacement unless I misunderstand their meaning?
"After an RMA request is approved, you will be required to pay for the full replacement collateral price of your product. The cost of collateral is determined by EVGA based on the current product's MSRP price, and is charged in TWD."
I'm not sure if its worth just trying to get a refund from ebay or actually going with the RMA, because I live in Australia I expect I'll have to ship internationally and that'll be quite expensive as well.
Anyone able to give advice in this situation?
Thanks!

Tell that to GoG.com, they dont seem to be bothered that much about it...
what do you mean?

If you're inclined, you could go with a 4790K. 400 MHz clock speed increase at stock than the non-k variant.
the 4790k is $400 over the $265 for the non k

Well give your desire to remain with the platform yes, since you're spending money might as well get the best already to give you more of a lifespan as well.
but is the performance improvement large enough to justify spending the money?

4790 would be best as the price of RAM is exorbitant at the moment.
ikr $255 for 16GB DDR4 is the cheapest i've seen...

Since you want VR and that does require single thread performance above all things go for the locked i7 4790 for the increase of frequency that should help out the best.
so do you think the upgrade would be worth it?

so I currently have an i5 4590
and I'd like to upgrade (to either the 4770 or 4790)
and Im not sure if those 2 cpus will make much of a difference over my current one.
The main reason I'm upgrading is because of VR... I use an OSVR HDK 2 which while running the osvr server my cpu is at 20% just because of that one program, and then all the other things make the overall usage at 35% ish and then that only leaves 65% for the game im running. its constantly at 100% in games. and as my current cpu is the very minimum for vr i feel like upgrading it would help performance a lot.
the reason why i'm not going from the 4590 to a Ryzen 5 1600 or i5 7600k or higher for example is because I'd have to upgrade the RAM, Motherboard as well as the cpu, and the current cooler i have i don't think is compatible with the 1151 socket or AM4 socket. so i'd have to get another one and also the fact that its not the best cooler lol... and Australian pc part prices are astronomical... so all that'd cost a nice $800-$1000
and the cost of the i7 4770 (used) is $210 and the i7 4790 (also used) is $265
please help me decide if it will be worth it and if so, which one to get

oh great, well get the i7-4770 then. still a good locked beast and at least can still turbo
Will do... when i get paid lol
Thanks for the help... hopefully my vr experience will improve

It's not negotiable... its second hand from a proper outlet store... that's why its all expensive
-
4770 no k for 210

so if you can find locked i7 haswell instead i would get that if it is cheap like $150
Theres a 4790 no k
For 265

I say $655? it isn't has to be a 1070, you can go RX 580 8GB if you want
That's pointless... i have an rx 480

getting an i7 with a rx480 is a waste considering how much you would spend
Everything's a waste in australia

Just now, Ordinarily_Greater said:
why not go for upgrading your GPU and then get another stick of 8GB RAM
A gtx 1070 is way too expensive... about the price of cpu and ram together

1 minute ago, Ordinarily_Greater said:
wow then go for @dizmo suggestion for going to ryzen
But its so much more expensive
-
I'd need a new case for that mobo
Its only matx when that mobo is atx
And the cheapest 16gb ram set is only 255

How much can you sell your current CPU for?
Don't pay $400 for a used CPU that's that old. That's a straight rip off.
Consider:
Ryzen 1600
Intel i5 8400
Ryzen can be quite cheap, even for a full upgrade:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 1600 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($278.00 @ Shopping Express)
Motherboard: Asus - PRIME B350-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard ($128.00 @ Shopping Express)
Memory: Team - Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($129.00 @ Umart)
Total: $535.00I need 16gb ram

if your current board supports overclock find another i7-4790K deal and get a cheaper i7-4790K
I dont trust oc ing on cpus
And its legit the cheapest 4790k available
Anyone have experience with EVGA RMA Process?
