  1. Thanks @Cocococo and @Psittac for the HD6XX recommendation. Going with those would bring the total cost down $200 which would be a bonus. I think those are also the headphones that @LinusTech uses at his house if I remember the last WAN show correctly. @Cocococo I will have a look at the others you suggested. Thanks for your help!
  2. I have not heard about the earpad replacement and wear issue. I have not been able to try in person the headsets but from reading a comparison on this site between the HD600 and HD650. The HD650 seem to be what I prefer. If you know of some others that sound the same but are cheaper then I would love to take a look.
  3. Awesome, thanks for the thumbs up on my picks. For the speakers, I do already have them. They are externally powered so I shouldnt need an amp for them. If I did my reading right, I would only need to run off the Schiit if the speakers were passive.
  4. Looking at updating my music experience while working at home. My speakers are great but want to have a great time with headphones as well. Currently have two computers, PC for gaming, then a dock for my personal/work macbooks. I plan to hook the two (maybe more in the future) sources to this mixer. Then the main out L/R will go to my speakers which have that connection. The main out headphones will go to the Schiit Magni+ by a 1/4" to RCA. From the amp, to the Sennheiser HD 650. (Helps that they are on sale right now) Total for it all is: ~$600 $400 of it is just the headphones, crutchfield recommends spending about 25%-50% the price of the headphones on an amp. Does anyone see any downfalls with the equipment I picked or anything I should do differently? Thanks
  5. Cool, thanks. Just wanted to double check. I have been finding the devices on newegg first, then looking for them on ebay.
  6. So I got my Supermicro 3U case CSE-836BE16 and it has the BPN-SAS2-836EL1 backplane. It came with a mini-sas already connected to the primary mini-sas port. Is that the only mini-sas cable I need? It is a 16bay server and from the manual the other 2 mini-sas connectors are for connecting other backplanes together. Is this correct? If it is, then I should be fine getting this LSI card since it is not a raid card and it is in IT mode.
  7. I am looking to turn an old computer into a media server and I was wondering if there was an app like apple tv available for ubuntu? It allows you to sign in to all of your services and then select that particular service or watch a personal movie that you have stored on a NAS. Does an app like this exist? My dream set up would be to have this plugged into the tv and not have to worry about going to chrome or anything to watch HBO or netflix or a movie that I own, it all being accessible in one place, under one app.
  8. I really like the easy of life with smartwatches. step tracking and daily plans is super nice to see through the day. Being in college and trying to do everything can often lead to things being missed or forgotten about. So having something on your wrist to tell you about something that has to happen would be quite nice to have.
  9. We should all be supporting upgradeable storage and replaceable batteries. Since I am able to do both of those with my G4 I have been able to take lots of photos and never having to worry about filling up my space on my phone. I have also been able to split the usage to my batteries equally between them since I am not just using one battery.
  10. I really love the feature of removable batteries. I got an extra because I was with tmobile, which also came with a charging cradle for it and I use it constantly. Always knowing I have a fully charged battery is such a nice feeling and especially nice when you travel a lot and need to quickly change your battery. I was thinking of oneplus 5t since I like the size of the display and the finger print scanner on it. I will definitely be waiting till the next upgrade of phones to see what has been improved and go from there. For the price and what you get, I have to say that oneplus is looking quite appealing.
  11. Well in an ideal world I would want an android with iMessage and facetime. I prefer the OS on android with its customizability but I also want a nice clean look like iOS. What I wish was better on my phone is a longer update cycle like with iPhone and a better battery life. I do not really want to lose the knock to wake up since I use that feature like crazy, but I want a fingerprint scanner. Well my current phone has last me 3 years so far and is still going strong, no cracks or anything. I do not want to spend $1k on a phone, prefer one more in the $500 range.
  12. Now now lets keep this civil. I have been looking at smartwatches more closely ever since my mother got one for christmas this year, apple watch 2. I played with it for a bit and quite like the feel of the device. What I do not like is the UI. So I went to the store to mess with some android wear and I really prefer their wear OS and the UI. I am also suck with the not sure which phone device to use. I currently have an LG G4 but it is no longer getting the new google updates. I love how I am able to switch my batteries and have amazing camera quality for a phone with manual mode. The SD card slot is a saint as well. Then with iPhone my whole family and friends use them and it would be nice to use imessage since I also have friends around the globe. So my question for all of you dedicated to your overlord, what are the pros and cons of the device and the smartwatch if you happen to use one. I am not asking for 1 week review type stuff, rather the daily complaints and user friendly of your device. The true everyday user experience, of battery life, productivity, school/work, and everything in between. What makes you love your device so that you can try to convince your dearest friend, the no BS stuff of the phone or smartwatch. The "Dude! I love how I can wake up the screen from double tapping on the screen" or "Everything from my phone is synced between my laptop and phone without me having to do anything" or even "The UI is so great that I could not imagine having anything else, being able to move this here, have it this size, change the size of the apps, hide apps that I dont use." or "If it wasn't for this smartwatch I probably would not be alive today." I hope I was able to get out what kind of things I am hoping to see from all of you passionate phone and smartwatch users. I can wait to see what you all have to say and to see which will convince me! Remember be civil!!
  13. Okay I will look into them. I am wanting to use the sub as well since it is like a $200 home theater sub (I worked at an audio place during the summer so I was able to get it cheap) and it seems like a sin to not let it be used.
  14. I was wondering if there was a device that will split the audio into left/right and sub. My desktop has recently bit the dust (R.I.P 2012-2018) and now I have a sub that is completely useless until I am able to afford a new computer. I was hoping that it would have a 3.5mm input, then output the left/right like normal and filter the lows into its own output for me to put into my sub. Have to get my beat back and shake the building!!
  15. Well I will just need to save up so I can buy a new pc. Which I am already doing but prices are insane though, luckily I already have my gpu.
  16. I looked and it is still crazy prices. I guess I will just have to wait for some money to buy a new computer after the computer I am already in the process of gathering parts when they are on sale.
  17. Dang. Yeah that does make sense. Well now I have a massive paper weight in my dorm. And I just bought some new games over christmas break :,(
  18. I am just searching lga 2011 socket motherboards. I went looking for the same board I have since I already know it and I know everything fits. I was just hoping to get some for like $20 since it is 7 year old hardware.
  19. So over the winter break computer died to an outage. I thought that it might have just been the PSU but I just tried my buddies PSU and it still doesnt work. So now I think it is the motherboard. I went to see about buying a new one thinking that they would be super cheap since no one would be needing one. When I looked for the same motherboard I have they are listed at like $399 to $500!!! Why is it soooo expensive to buy 7 year old motherboards? I have also included a video of what happens when I try to turn on my computer. 20180110_195321.mp4
  20. thanks. I already have my evga gpu so I won't be getting a new one since this is meant to replace my current computer. I am making this one since I travel a lot from home and college.
  21. I am wanting to do a "copy" of the build linus did with the dans case. I was wondering if anyone here has the case or if anyone would know what length cables I should get. I will have two 2.5 HDD, one 2.5 SSD, EVGA 1070, and ASUS ROG STRIX. thank you in advance
  22. dang okay, that is awesome. I was kinda figuring that since they didnt have the exact same they would not be compatible. Well I will most definitely be looking into that.
  23. I was rewatching linus make the ultra compact pc with dans case. It made me wonder if you can put a lga 2011-v3 cpu into a lga 2011-3 socket? I wouldn't think so since they are not exactly the same but I was curious since it would be cool to have a quad channel motherboard with a normal desktop cpu (save some $$$).
  24. Well I think I might have found a solution! So basically you need to go to disk management and at the bottom you will see your mirrored drives. You need to click on one of them and if I remember it should ask if you want to remirror these drives (something along the lines of that). Right now they are resynching at 3% but I am happy! Now I just need to wait and see if that does the trick! Hope this helps you if you need it in the future (pray to the pc gods that you dont).
