  1. Hi, if I place some of the thermal pads that came included with my water block on the components highlighted in the picture, their overall height prevents most of the other components (GPU, memory) from contacting the block, despite the recesses etched into the block. I don't know what they do exactly, though I learned that they are part of the voltage regulation, which I would have assumed needs active cooling. They had pads on them from the factory, but these only contacted some of the fins of the stock cooler, not the base plate. So do I need to buy thinner pads? Should I put a small amount of thermal paste on there instead? Or is it okay to leave them without any form of thermal interface? I have installed third party air coolers before, but this is my first foray into water cooling. Sorry if this is a stupid question. The water block is a custom model and came without any documentation. I will contact the seller, but they sometimes take some time to respond, so I would appreciate any help you can give.
  2. Sorry for the confusion, I incorrectly assumed that installing a dedicated PhysX card involved SLI. My question boils down to this: If I do have a dedicated PhysX card for whatever reason, can it display the same image as the primary card? I'll leave the thread be now. Thanks again and have a good day.
  3. Hi D2ultima, thank you for the reply. Just to be specific, I know I can use another card to run secondary monitors, but can I game on it if it's connected to another card than I would like to render on? I'm considering upgrading to a triple monitor setup and I would like to use my current XL2411T as one of the screens, and only have to buy two new ones. (The XL2411P appears to be basically the same monitor, except it has a display port connector, instead of DVI-D.) I figured, if the 970 was connected via SLI, even if it's just as PhysX card, it might be able to display whatever the main card outputs? I don't actually care about PhysX, the games I play (mostly just iRacing) don't even support it. Do you know if the DVI port would work in this specific use case? Thank you for your help!
  4. Hello, can anybody confirm if this is possible? Skimming through the thread, I couldn't find an answer yet. If I were to buy an RTX 3070 or similar, which likely won't come with any DVI connectors, can I leave my current 970 in the system configured as a PhysX dedicated card in SLI to run my old 144hz in a three monitor setup? If yes, would this also work for non-PhysX games, and would the GTX 970 draw any significant amount of power in that case? Would this solution likely introduce lag/longer frametimes? Cheers
  5. Hey guys, Yesterday I installed the technical preview using windows update and now I can't open music files nor video files. I get the above error message. I read up on the issue on various forums and tried the following solutions: But none of them fixed the issue. I also didn't find any reports of this problem occuring on windows 10, but many described that they also couldn't open documents and other file types, and couldn't access system settings either. I can do those things just fine. My system language is german and the original message text reads "Schnittstelle nicht unterstützt". Googling that, it seems that people also experience this issue in the context of Internet explorer and something FTP? Since my problem doesn't seem to be the exact same one that others have I'm a bit anxious about changing registry entries and what not... Does anyone have an idea what could cause this and how I might fix this? Thanks =)
  6. I like the illumination on that card. More manufacturers should do that kind of stuff =)
  7. Every time new videocards are about to be launched I dig through leaked specs, trying to figure out which brandnew card to buy, how to upgrade my system. I found linustechtips when Linus was the first to upload a video about the GTX680. In the video Linus was whispering to a camera he was apparently wearing around his neck, careful not to wake the Baby, alone upstairs in his house, late at night after presumably a long day of benchmarking. He was showing the card as well as the testresults. I remember thinking "What a weird amateur-like setting this is ... nevermind, he seems knowledgeble ... Hey, this is a pretty cool dude!" and i subscibed. I never end up getting a high end card like I plan, though. I have only upgraded my system once so far and I bought a HD7850. But I enjoyed the hell out of pretty much all the different content LMG has put out so far.It has helped my decide whenever I did buy some piece of technology and beyond that has fueled my tendency to online-windowshop, which is always fun =) And the WAN-show is my favourite way to get a perspective on (more or less) technology-related news (along with The Tek). I honestly don't regret a single minute that I spent watching your videos instead of studying or whatever I probably should have done... TL;DR I love you guys PS My favourite food is Lasagne, I think
  8. I always love merchandise, and I'd be happy to help you test printerstudio.ca's service =)

  10. Hello there, I recently learned that you can root your phone and use custom ROMs, but I don't know what exactly there is out there and what would be ideal for me and my phone. I own a Sony Ericcson Arc S running Android 2.3.4 and basically what I'm looking for is getting rid of all the preinstalled garbage and everything unnecessary that eats CPU power and drains the battery in the background. I also don't need any fancy surfaces, my current version seems quite fine to me. All I want my phone to be able to do is browsing the internet, playing YT videos, MP3s, skype, twitter, emails, dict.cc which is a handy translator app and maybe Maps and whatsApp, and all of that as smoothly as possible. How do I best achieve that? =)
  11. ok guys thanks for your help, I'm still not entirely sure how I will decide and what I will buy but at least I am quite a bit more enlightened about PSUs now ^^
  12. is there a way to tell which connector uses which rail?
  13. ah ok :/ what PSU would you recommend then?
  14. what exactly would you say is the problem?
