  1. I was looking at the Asus xonar u7. So something like that should work right? It even mentions it in the Asus website that the card supports USB 1.0 and USB 2.0. Only mentions Windows and Mac on the OS section though, which is what scares me.
  2. Windows drivers with Linux..? How would I go around doing that? Does that mean I can basically use any sound card?
  3. I'm on a Linux desktop and I was looking for a sound card to buy, but I am being confused with what is and isn't compatible with the OS. I've searched and found older threads of people who had similar issues and the answers were basically all links to giant, incomprehensible lists of sound cards that are known to work with Linux, which is fine, but didn't really help me since these lists usually lacked literally all details but the name of the product (so details like price, specs etc I had to look up manually...) and for all I know may not have been updated in years. I'm basically looking for a sound card within the $100-$150 bracket, doesn't matter if it's internal or external, that without a doubt is compatible with Linux. Also, I know I'm being a bit picky, but because of my location it's pretty difficult to find anything other than Asus, Creative and a brand named TerraTec (don't even know if it's good) cards... But if there's another brand that works with Linux please do let me know. Edit: Just wanted to ask another question since we're at it... Are PCI-e cards completely out of the question?
  4. So I decided to give Linux Fedora a go. From the moment I was able to use my mouse in the setup phase, I knew something was off. The mouse kept freezing constantly to the point where performing the simplest tasks like clicking the "next" button would take like 30 seconds. The keyboard wasn't any better. Keys would take a few seconds before actually registering, and appearing on screen. Other times, hitting a key once would make it appear 10-20 more times, so if I wanted to type "linux" it would probably look like "llllllllllllllllllinux". I managed to slog through the installation process and hoped that by some miracle once the installation was done and I made it on the desktop things would improve, but to no avail. The OS is impossible to use in this state. I searched online for help but couldn't find something to match my case. I also tried using two different mice other than my daily driver but there was no change. I really want to get this to work properly... Help? My specs are: i5 6600, GTX 1070, 16 GB of ram.
  5. No idea what that thing even is. the folder inside only has a bunch of .dat files: Tried uninstalling it but it doesn't appear under "uninstall or change a program". Simply deleting it doesn't work either, message still appears after restart. I am certain I never downloaded anything by that name. Googling lfsoft brings up a couple results but it's in spanish..? Any other ideas?
  6. So every time I open up my PC this message shows up seconds after I log in: This has actually been happening for a while now but I decided I'm tired of seeing the damn thing every single day. I could really use some help with disabling it, or even better, fixing whatever problem is causing it. Thanks in advance!
  7. Yeah, this seems to be my best option right now...
  8. It works fine with the front panel, but the cable is kinda short and I don't want to put strain on the cable. I have the GIGABYTE GA-Z170-HD3P.
  9. I have some speakers which I can listen through, and I recently bought a pair of headphones to use along with them. Because I only have a single audio card (on-board), I connected the headphones to the 3.5mm port on my speakers. However, I can't easily switch between the two devices. The only way to do it is to disconnect the headphones from the speakers, but I was trying to see if I could do it with a hotkey or something. I tried a program named "audio switcher", but it doesn't recognize the headphones at all. Even windows 10 has the device listed as "not plugged in" under "manage audio devices". I was wondering if there was some sort of alternative. Thanks a lot!
  10. I feel like an idiot right now.... Still, thanks a lot... I was actually looking at that very page 30 minutes ago and I didn't even see that. Gonna go buy some glasses along with the motherboard now.
  11. Hey I'm here with a pretty specific question. I'm looking at the Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P motherboard, and I was wondering if anyone happened to have the same one and knows how many sata cables it comes with. I tried the official Gigabyte site, but in order to send a tech support question for a product you need to actually have the product bought (they are asking questions like bios version etc). Thanks for the help!!
  12. It's not exactly a peripheral but this seemed the best place to ask. I have an old DVD drive with a sata 2 connector and I'm planning to buy a new motherboard with a sata 3 port. Will the two work together? Thanks!
  13. Hello! I know there are dedicated calculators for this, but I could really appreciate some input from the community. I'm building a computer with an i3 4170 and an R9 380 from Sapphire. I was wondering if you could tell me around how much of a wattage would be required for this setup. I will NOT be doing any upgrades in the future in the form of crossfire, so no need to calculate for future proofing. Thanks a lot for the help!
  14. Tried it before, and tried it again now for good measure. I follow the instructions to the letter, but it doesn't work, the format does not appear.
  15. Tried saving a file as .ico, and it does turn PNG's to icons, but when setting it as an actual icon for a folder I get the message "The file (file path) contains no icons". I tried installing the plugin, but every guide I have found mentions a "File Formats" folder existing under "Plug-ins" which does not exist for me, and creating it and installing it there does nothing.
