  1. GIMP, or if you're looking for a pretty powerful tool, that is great and easy to use you can try Paint.NET (To find Paint.NET on google, google "Paint Dot Net" rather than "Paint.net")
  2. Ah, I see. They did hire a new guy that is a graphical designer of sorts whom is the one behind these new UI changes. Not all of them are generally accepted, but I think the old layout was fine, but could have done with a few tweaks, not with such a massive overhaul because it doesn't seem to be going over very well. I think if they went back to the old layout and took input on what needs to be changed and updated the graphics there, then there would be a lot of satisfied users.
  3. Lol, this is so full of crap, I'm sure this could easily be done with any Android phone, and what's to say people aren't still lying using even when using their devices. (I didn't read the full post because I don't have the time, and am not about to care about some useless banter from Apple fanboys.) Because Android Users and smart and go into the good studies that guarantee jobs that have lower stress levels, rather than being rich and going and graduating with University degrees that don't assure them a job.
  4. Is it a new system, and are you looking for a nicely cable-managed look? If you want good cable management looks then I'd say go with the Fully modular.
  5. What do you mean get rid of the pages on the parts list, not exactly seeing what you're getting at
  6. Alrighty then. Let's get this one straight. I call RIGHT to the bullshIIIIIIIIIIIIIATTTTTTTT to that 'You're missing inven--" oh WAIT HOLD UP. Nonononono Apple DID NOT invent the multitouch touchpad http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TouchpadBoom. Take this with a grain of salt if you will, but there are many, MANY smart watches that ALREADY exist, that have every single function that the Apple watch does. Also, costing $100+ less. If you want a classy looking watch you have to pay $500+, when you can get Smart watches that have metal bands rather than rubber/plastic/leather/etc on them that still cost less than $500. Also, again with the new MacBook, here we have a "brand new" piece of tech from Apple, sporting oh, what? Two ports? Ha. http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX305/ Look here, something thinner than the new Macbook, better proposed battery life, a 13.3 inch display, 3 USB 3.0 ports, one sporting device charging, even when the device is powered off, it also have a headphone jack, an SD card slot, 512GB SSD (User serviceable/replaceable, I might add.), 8 GB RAM, 802.11 AC WiFi enabled. The Asus ZenBook weighs slightly more, but does that weight really matter? I mean you're paying just over half the price for the Asus netbook, and you don't even have to buy a dongle to go with it. Oh, and it also has an HDMI port on it, another thing the Macbook lacks. Also, the processor is better than in the Macbook. This Asus ZenBook beats the crap out of the Macbook, and it comes in at $699. You can go ahead and pay $1299 for your mackbook oh, but you also have to buy that $80 dongle if you want to port out to another screen, or plug in a device while you stream something, or... Yeah. You can pay whatever the hell you want and waste your money on the Apple products, when what you're paying for is the name. Asus is a big, trusted brand and you're not paying a stupid premium for a device that is really what you pay for. Take it to the facts. If you want to get a smartwatch, or if you want a slim laptop for regular internet browsing, then you shouldn't go for a macbook. You could buy a Smartwatch, and the Asus Zenbook and not surpass the price of the Macbook itself. Enjoy. /rant TL;DR: IN NO WAY IS THE APPLE MACBOOK WORTH IT. You can buy something for half the price that has better specs, and that you can service yourself. But if you're gunna be like that then... ٩◔̯◔۶
  7. Either GIMP or Paint.NET You can find either GIMP by googling it, and to find Paint.Net google "Paint DOT net" and it will take you to their pages, just don't download them from CNet or Sourceforge because those downloads commonly include unwanted bloatware.
  8. I'm sure that there is already a post about this, if not, I'd be surprised, this happened yesterday It's kind of all blown out of proportion as per usual with any big-name celeb. I'm sure it will blow over.
  9. Please tell me you're not serious... Honestly that is not even worth the risk, and probably wouldn't work, almost 110% sure it wouldn't, you would also run the risk of a) burning yourself b:-) Melting the plastic and sealing the wires together, and melting the rubber so there is no way to get them apart. Pliers and patience + being careful will get it off as long as you go for the square part where you pull it through to lock it. You can try going at it with scissors as well but you'll want to be EXTREMELY careful, for your fingers' sake and the wire safety.
  10. WIth membrane keyboards key caps aren't generally made for them, even if your keyboard is a Logitech G510s. I think you might just have to live with the keyboard as it is or upgrade to a new mechanical keyboard so you can actually get different key caps, sorry about that.
  11. You should still be interested in saving the data from the drive, it there was really anything at all on the drive valuable to you. If that's not an option then I guess you could definitely go for a gaming PC, if you need any help getting a parts list set up just make a thread in the General section and you'll be helped out generously.
  12. I'm not exactly sure why this is happening, but it doesn't really matter, as long as the computer starts up fine and has no issues then you should just be able to go on without worried. If you're really worried about something I can maybe look deeper into the issue for you.
  13. The computer doesn't start, at all. You cannot boot it in safe mode if it literally cannot start up. Doing a Sata to USB adapter would certainly put the computer you plug it into at risk of infection, if you're trying to edit/move files and take care of the files on the older 'broken' drive then it will easily make it's way over to a new host. Although, if OP is able to use something like this, or hook it up to another computer, AND is then able to access the files on the old drive, he would be able to follow the directions that I had given him in one of my latest posts and deal with the virus, whether or not it travels to the computer used to fixed the old drive, as long as the computer used to fix the drive stays on, then it will be able to be found and eliminated, therefore completely voiding it's chance of "surviving" and infecting the drive or separate computer again. But that's why OP's best, and at this point, his only option, would be to take it to a local store like Best Buy with his parents and they can fix it. It may cost a pretty penny, but it may be the only way to have it working again, and in time for him to finish his project.
  14. Whether or not something can run it, whether or not YOUR system can handle the 4k at whatever FPS, that does not matter. OP is looking for a LARGE screen that doesn't need to be insanely awesome. Large 4k displays get very expensive, and while your arguments are valid, there is not much merit. Going with 4k just because it can, and just because it will be lets say "more" relevant in the coming years with the advancements in screen resolution tech. Old technology still stands its game, and still holds true to the test of time. Why spend the amount you will buying very large monitors in 4k when you can buy lower (albeit older) monitors that are still just as good, just as relevant, and relate precisely to what the point the OP is getting at in his main post. He just doesn't need the refresh rate, and with 4k it doesn't really make a difference, even if it isn't 144hz, there are so many better options, that aren't really that old, at all. Therefore it really is not worth it, for the OP, in this situation, to go for a 4k monitor. The purpose of threads, like this one, is to find the best option, and 4k is NOT the best option for OP right now. Therefore, my suggestion of not going with 4k, and therefore my disagreement with your praise of the 4k monitor you use, or your preference for it.
  15. Yikes. Um, yes. the virus could cause an issue, and in that case you may definitely want to take it to some place where they fix computers, but if you're able to eventually get it booted up in the next short while here's what you can do to get rid of the virus: (I have to go off the forums because I have work I need to do, myself, haha so I won't be available for some time) Alright, then your issue may lie elsewhere. If you downloaded CCLeaner or any other of those silly programs (some of them really aren't any good except CCleaner) Some of the programs you downloaded may have come with bloatware, especially if you downloaded one or more of them from a site other than their own site. Like if you downloaded them from CNet or sourceforge. You might have malware or virus(es), so you want to install some anti-virus(es) http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/security-essentials-download First, install this, run it, a full scan, see if it finds anything. https://www.malwarebytes.org/ Then use that, to see if that finds anything. Before you install those, uninstall everything else, all the cleaning programs, uninstall, them, even CCLeaner. Once you have run Malwarebytes and MSE, then you can get CCleaner again. https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner Download it from there, the official CCleaner website. Chose the pro version trial so that it will download from the piriform website rather than the filehippo website they host the free version download on. Then you need to select everything in the Applications Tab of CCLeaner And then in the windows tab, select everything, so it looks like this:
  16. Dust won't work it's way inside the physical casing to get onto the platters. It's just not possible. Unless the HDD casing was open, with the platters and arms exposed, then it just will not happen. I opened up some Hard Drives that were about 8+ or more years old a month ago, and they had definitely been used for quite a while, there was not dust in them what so ever. Sorry to say but it's not like the Nintendo 64, unplugging things, and blowing the dust off of them won't guarantee a fix. you can try, but like OP said in his latest comment there is not much dust on it, he can try, but I can assure you, blowing on the cables won't make a difference because dust wouldn't work it's way in onto the actual metal contacts, so. Yeah...
  17. Yes, you can hear the arms working within the HDD, but what this is, is a registry error, something ON the drive, in the form of data, not something physical, has rendered it "unusable" The drive is unable to load what it needs to, therefore it plays you the error noise. Hope you can understand that. I know it might be a bit confusing, but you may need to take it somewhere to get it repaired, and you'll have to be ready for a loss of some data, because if there is a registry error then some things could have been lost on the drive, and there is no telling if your project was lost.
  18. Well, it may cost the money, but it may be the only way to get it. Do you mean literally "blowing" the dust of the HDD? That probably won't do anything (I can assure you for a fact that it won't do anything) If there is a registry error then it is not something that blowing the dust of the externals of the drive will change.
  19. I see, I just think that it may have been a mistake in the way the previous balance carried over. Probably nothing to worry about, maybe you could send a feedback report to Google and see what happens from there.
  20. He can't really wide the HDD if there are 6 beeps like that, he'd need a new HDD or another machine to plug it into and try and fix the drive, or take it to a computer repair shop.
  21. Whether or not you own one, doesn't mean you know exactly what you're talking about. Right now, with what OP is interested in it is not worth it. Whether or not the monitor is 4k, does not mean that the graphics card will be able to put out 4k to the monitor. It's a lot smarter to wait rather than going with the insane luxury of the 4k monitor, when someone can wait a year (or two) for when the technology becomes more commonplace and will cost a lot less, etc. etc. Just because you own was does not mean you're all knowing.
  22. ... Yes he did, he said "About 6 beeps" it's in the main post.
  23. Wat. Not exactly sure what I'm looking at, because of the columns aren't explained, where the $5 is there is not much explanation as to what exactly that is or what is is about. Can you provide a screenshot of what each section is for? I'm a total noob to whatever it I'm seeing in this photo.
